I uh... I unlocked a Spanish Civil War single mission... This happened...

1/10 Can't say I've seen you before, either.

First (and probably last) test simulation of the Eve Plane, intended to maker a short pass through the upper atmosphere of Eve before returning to orbit to rendezvous with the mission's mothership. The plane has barely entered the atmosphere, but because of the orbit it descended from, it's already experiencing amtospheric heating. I probably should have know better than to fly a plane into Eve's mustard gas atmosphere! Oh yeah, they aren't coming back from this one. What was I thinking? Audio transcript from Mission Control: "Well, I'm not gonna lie to you guys, you're in hot water this time. Nobody ever said your job wasn't dangerous, but that's why they pay you guys the big bucks." The cameras worn by the pilots show what appears to be the fire of Hell itself just outside the window. Remember, this is at an altitude higher than 60km. Hey, at least the crew cabin survived. Beale really makes these things tough, doesn't he? With no engine left, the crew was forced to endure another pass through Eve's punishing heat. The second pass killed the orbit and caused the capsule to fall deeper into Eve's atmosphere, unable to escape. Strangely, it survived the brutal heat and made it to the lower atmosphere unscathed. Oh, hello, ground, almost didn't see you through all this purple gas. The atmosphere has slowed the capsule down to about 130 m/s, so one of the pilots decided to do something which has received generally negative views at KSC... Audio log transcript: "See ya, sucker!" The left seat pilot has ejected and activated his orbital maneuvering thrusters, hoping the thick atmosphere can slow him down, while his "friend" plummets to his death several hundred meters below. The boffins in the lab speculate that the tense period of time that elapsed between the first and second atmospheric passes caused high levels of anxiety in this kerbal (what was his name again?). By the time the capsule had reached the lower atmosphere, he could no longer be considered sane. His decision to eject seems to be caused by the mental pressure applied over the last few hours. Whatever, he survived. Woo, first EVA on another planet for me, even if this a simulation, and the Kerbal is stranded, and this wasn't supposed to happen in the first place. I'm probably not going to continue with the Eve plane, it doesn't have any real scientific value and can't get very far into the atmosphere anyway. Is there any chance we could schedule a big event in which the entire squadron plays in one match? Well, most of the squadron anyway, I know we have people from many different time zones, so getting everyone will be difficult.

How many parts does it have?

Pretty far South indeed. You haven't felt pain until you've lived through a South Alabama summer. You haven't felt suffering until you've been in a South Alabama marching band in the summer. The Osprey is technically a tiltrotor, but since I included that in the title of the thread, we can talk about them as well. Next time I go to the Army Aviation Museum on the base, I'll make sure to take some pictures and share them here.

Here's a cool video I watch every . It's a documentary about flight school made during the Vietnam era. Why the Sea Hurricane specifically? What differences did it have from the standard Hurricane?

Since a lot of people seemed to be interested in my helicopter stories that I mentioned here a few days ago, I started a thread for helicopter discussion in the Space Lounge. This may be off topic, but I thought I would let people here know.

Unfortunately, no. Rucker is the Army's training base for helicopters, and a good deal of its aircraft are based there, but testing is done elsewhere, probably at Edwards AFB or Area 51. Even if they did test around here, they would do it a night, when people are less likely to to see something. You probably remember how one of the Blackhawks in the Osama Bin-Laden raid crashed and the wreckage revealed it to be some kind of stealth helicopter. Well, we didn't know anything about it, even though my father actually works as a Blackhawk instructor pilot. We never saw any fly over before and we still haven't seen any fly over since. Yeah, again, I'm just as much in the dark as you are. Sikorsky and Boeing seem to be working on this to sell to the army. And again, I've never seen any coaxial helicopters in flight, even though I know for a fact that the S-97 Raider has already made its first test flight. Occasionally I see some Russian helicopters (Mi-17, I think), because the army bought some to train foreign students in. So that's cool, I guess.

For those of you who don't know, I live about half an hour away from Fort Rucker, Alabama, the largest helicopter base in the world (yeah, I told you where I live, hopefully nobody tries to blow up my house or something). Anyway, this means I have lots of opportunities to get up close views of Army helicopters and the facilities used to train pilots. I have lots of stories about helicopters, and apparently, some people have found them interesting. This thread is for us rotary-wing lovers to discuss helicopters, autogyros, tiltrotors, and more. Tell your stories, post your pictures, ask questions, anything. The helicopter is an amazing invention, and I think it deserves some attention!

Well, I was sort of hoping to be able to buy a Pepsi Perfect today, but I found out that there were only 6500 bottles made, and later found out hat they all sold out within minutes. Looks like I'll be drinking mostly Coke from now on, just like I did before today...

When the Soyuz panels get revamped will they have the new stowed configuration you showed us once where they conform to the curve of the SM to fit in the fairing better?

I am the reason many space programs are successful. NASA owes me big time for getting them out of that Apollo 13 situation they got themselves into a few years back.

Sure, there's that, but its likely going to be expensive as hell. It certainly won't be available in the quantities shown in Back to the Future, where even little kids have hover boards, and there are vastly varying qualities of hover boards, etc.

I heard Pepsi released a promotional soda can modeled after the one from Back to the Future Part II, I'm going to see if I can find one. And I still don't have a hover board, time to take these lies to court!

I'm looking for name suggestions for the craft in my crewed Eve mission which will use mostly Tantares parts. I want names for the following: Crew Transfer Vehicle (moderately large craft, assembled in orbit, houses four kerbals Gilly Lander (light, two Kerbal craft, based on same principles as LK Eve High Atmosphere Plane (yeah, maybe I'm crazy, I plan to use this for a pass into Eve's upper atmosphere) Eve Descent Probe(s)(heavy probe to be sent into Eve's atmosphere by the crew) Any other vehicles anyone can think of (not an Eve lander, no way, I'm not ready for that)

You know, War Thunder has Kerbal landings too... The picture doesn't show it, but i had to use the recoil from my guns to slow down the plane, naturally it reminded me of KSP.

How does the siren work?

Of course, I have yet to see a space movie that is 100% accurate, but Gravity just stands out to me because of how blatant the inaccuracy is to anyone who knows about how NASA really works, or how orbital inclinations work, or how George Clooney probably shouldn't be sent to space, etc.

Gravity, REALISTIC?!?! Hang on a moment, let me compose myself... Hehehe, Gravity... Realistic... Oh, that slaps me on the knee! Realistic.... Ha! Seriously, Gravity is probably one of the most unrealistic space movies I've seen. I would list all the inaccuracies, but that would take up too much room. Heh, Gravity... Realistic.... Hehe...
