  1. Working on a new flying wing recon plane, the Ke-221 Condor It's the first to use my newly devised Aircraft Designation System. That's right, I didn't just choose random numbers for the designation.

Max Altitude Achieved: 10,000 meters ASL

    Max Speed Achieved: 700+ m/s

Holds two crew, and can fly for 1 hour and 18 minutes with empty wing tanks. The altitude and speed test was interrupted by a brief visit from the Kraken, so I'm confident that the aircraft can go higher and faster. It's not very maneuverable right now though.

Does anyone know how to rig up a yaw control system without using vertical control surfaces? I know how the clamshell airbrake concept has worked on some flying wings, but I can't figure out how to get it to work with control surfaces in KSP.

  2. Best of luck to you Beale :) We'll do our best not to crash Minmus into the Mün till you get back :D

Whoa, speak for yourself! I plan to use the powers of Hyperedit to become a Dark Lord of the Kerbol system more powerful than Sauron himslef!

EDIT: I'm actually wondering... How many people know what I'm talking about? Space nerds and fantasy nerds are two completely different groups.

  3. Hello!

    Sorry for absence.

The little one is here, both him and his mother are well, thank you the concern :)

Sadly I cannot continue Tantares for some time, in the time between though Curtquarquesso has kindly agreed to maintain the mod (Many thanks!)

    Signing out, but not forever!

    Kind regards.

Congratulations, man. I wish you well in your upcoming adventures with your little mini breadchild.

    Godspeed, Sir Loaf, godspeed.

You guys wanted a bigger, stronger LAS motor, right?

    Waay ahead of you.

I did this a while back.

  4. Here's the first LKO test flight of my new spacecraft, the BTK. It means Duration Transport Ship, but I used Google translate to put it into Russian and my limited knowledge of the Cyrillic alphabet to get BTK. Niemand, you're Russian, right? Care to help me out with this? Anyway, BTK was designed for long duration missions to the Mun, Minmus, and Duna. Here you go:

    Fe8whZi.jpg

BTK-2 lifts off on board a Zenit. It feels so good to have AB launchers again! Just look at the power of Zenit's first stage! BTK-1 Experienced a strange failure of the second stage separation, so an immediate mission abort was called shortly after achieving orbit.

    mhP0oHe.png

For a spacecraft such as BTK, Zenit is way too overpowered for a launch to LKO. But then again, most Tantares launchers are like that! :D

Escape tower is jettisoned! I might as well go ahead and point out that the SULAT has the bug where you can only see its staging icon in flight, not in the VAB/SPH.

Zenit's first stage is spent and separates from the rest of the stack. Maybe for later missions I'll make it reusable like Falcon 9's first stage. It doesn't seem too hard...

The first stage was so overpowered that the second stage (Am I correct in using Proton's third stage?) only has to do the orbital insertion burn at apoapsis. Even this nearly drains the stage though.

BTK's aerodynamic fairings blow off once in orbit to expose the Service Module. Yep, that is a 1.875 meter Cygnus engine. it was the only thing that looked good and still delivered the needed Delta V for long range missions.

    HyHCYco.png

BTK is free of the second stage and has deployed its SM hardware. This is the first time I really utilized the "Lego" part of Tantares to make something that isn't a replica. I like the result a lot. :)

Just a confirmation that the Apollo antenna is seeing use. here it is, as BTK's main communication method. In LKO is wouldn't be used that much because the lance works better, but for Mun and Minmus missions it will be imperative.

Obligatory artificial eclipse shot. Getting late here, so I'll complete the mission tomorrow.

  5. No, you need to use RasterPropMonitor (see my sig below) to have a functional IVA. I think the only stock prop that you can interact with is the speed indicator (you can switch which speed mode it's in).

The throttle is also interactive. You can drag the throttle up and down while in IVA. That's how it was last time I checked anyway. Not sure about whether it still works like that.

  6. ....and a sketchfab model:

Try to ignore the open rear bay, the open missile tubes and the broken fairing nose.

Many thanks for the sketchfab model! Although I'm not sure how to embed it into the OP...

You have inspired me to make a TRUE Red October mod. Now, if I could figure out how.....

  7. Is it too late for me to throw in my usual complaint about the IVA being too bare? Because the IVA is too bare. Seriously, go nuts with the props, put all sorts of buttons on the walls, even if they don't don't do anything. Just put racks of buttons below the windows and more cargo bags on the floor or something. It's supposed to be an IVA for the flight worthy spacecraft, not the cheap mockups they have at space museums for children to get in with the painted on controls and stuff!
