Inevitably sounds a lot like billions of virions escaping a lysing cell towards a new host to infect and exploit it

Sounds like there won't be very much suspense for the Nobel prize for physics

North Korea's 5th satellite attempt-7th Feb 2016
Hcube replied to xenomorph555's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Looks very rugged for a fairing that launched two dans ago... -
Interesting but how do you know that ?
-
Well i think there is a minimum pressure/airflow required for the parachute to open... Have you tried right-clicking it and modifying the opening values ?

I don't like that the poll options were changed. I voted for "it won't happen and elon will be very sad", not for " will be done in a distant future". I don't think it will ever happen. My vote should not be there... Just sayin

[snip] This is getting very political, i suggest PM if you wish to debate a bit. On topic : is the rocket solid or liquid fuelled ? From the pics i'd say solid but it's hard to say... -
How is this scientific exactly ?

North Korea's 5th satellite attempt-7th Feb 2016

I don't really understand why people are glad the launch was successful Everyone knows what the north korean space program is for, and the launch itself is not any innovation... How is this a good news ? It's interesting at most. -
Best planet fortifications that come to my mind are the Ogame defenses ^^ classic shield domes, crappy missile launchers, heavy/light lasers, ion cannon, the great Gauss cannon and the almighty plasma turret ! Any Ogame fans/players in here ? Since it only has these small images it's all up to imagination, i used to imagine crazy space battles back when i played it

I meant let's not push the launches and try to maintain crazy schedules when it comes to manned launches. Because last time it was done it didn't end up very well. I don't see what complexité has to do in here, its all about impossible launch schedules This is getting pretty much off topic though
-
Yeah, let's not do this again

Yes, i have confused heating up and slowing down; and i will edit that. I actually checked the book and it mentions both slowing down and heating up... However the compression is also a factor for the slow down with the surpression in front of the capsule and the depression behind it. For the bicycle : no, it's always used as an exemple by teachers but the gyroscopic effect is so minuscule that it is wrong to say that it's the reason why the bicycle is stable

We obviously can't expect everyone to know about everything ! but i think that science books (and people who write them) should know about the branch of science they are talking about, right ? Here's the kind of stuff my *physics* textbook had : 1)capsules during re-entry are slowed down by the friction of the air 2)bicycles are very stable because of the gyroscopic effect of the spinning wheels (wich is totally not possible since the wheels are like 1.5kg each...) 3)airplanes fly because of the Venturi effect... My genetics teacher used to think that the space shuttle landed on the moon, but he is a genetician, so i guess it's prefectly normal... On the other hand, having a science teacher telling me that red blood cells are prokaryotes kills me. Strangely, the amount of fallacies is particularly high in highschool biology classes... I never understood why.

It's also in part because upper stages' TWR is anemic compared to the stages we are used to make in KSP. Upper stages rely a lot on first stages IRL, and burnes for a very long time whereas in KSP it will usually have a relatively high TWR. In fact it's totally possible to do a 1burn perfect circular orbit in KSP if you throttle down a lot and stay 5-10 seconds away from apoapsis during the final part of the ascent. It's pretty much a combination of the differences in Isp, planet size, rocket design and TWR ^^

I think that it is not going to happen because this kind of colony costs some seriously big money and is not profitable *at all*. Do you happen to spend hundreds of dollars for something that sounds cool but doesn't profit you nor make your life better in any way (smoking excepted) ? Then why would anyone else spend billions and billions on something equally useless ?

Why are the charges on the electron and proton the same?
Hcube replied to cantab's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Not really. The particle isn't really spinning, the spin is just an intrinsic value of the particle. Angular momentum exists for a physical rotation, like a spinning top. For a particle spinning in a magnetic field, the equivalent of angular momentum is magnetic spin momentum, wich does depend on the spin quantum number of the particle. I'm having trouble translating this into english, i learnt it in french and the terms are not the same. Also keep in mind that i learnt about this when i was studying magnetostatic and MRI, so my point of view may be centered on this and i might be missing some other aspects -
I'm totally copying this spaceplane design as soon as i get my hands on the game.

Because even on the Mun the TWR sucks. I'm not even sure the ion can lift it's own weight on the Mun. It probably can on minmus and totally can on Gilly, but the Mun... I don't think so

This is a joke right ?

I feel you, the demo needs reworking... I have good hopes that it will be looked at after 1.1. Mean while i suggest clipping the engine in the tank and lowering the legs in the VAB with the offset tool. Have fun

2 mod that need to be added at Default game
Hcube replied to Badsector's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I would even say that they need not to be added.
