  1. well it wants to flip in reverse all the time and it behaves strangely during take-off. sometimes you don't even make it off the runway.
  2. so at first I had some trouble, but later on, success! http://imgur.com/gallery/AOUaO/new sorry, i did not manage to get a BBcode.
  3. well trimming is okay, but do not do things like adjust wether a control surface does pitch or yaw. general rule is: if you can modify it in the same way in the hangar as in-flight it is not allowed. if it is something like trimming, which you can only do in-flight, it is no problem. you could even fly close to the ground and get rid of a wing you don't want , although I would not recommend doing that.
  4. Jeb, Bill, Bob and Val kerman have had one(maybe six) too many drinks today! But... they were still supposed to go to the base on the island to deliver some building plans(they apparently don't have internet there)! Fly them there safely and you will be rewarded with pints of beer as long as stocks last in the control tower! Objective -Fly the craft provided in the link below to the island runway and land it there. Provide a screenshot as proof that all four kerbals survived. Rules: -Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing: as long as all four kerbals make it there alive, the objective is complete. -Do not use any mods other than visual mods. -Do not modify the craft provided in any way whatsoever. Here's the download: https://www.dropbox.com/s/cg6b3k5mqh1dxou/Drunken%20plane.craft?dl=0 Good luck, gentlemen!
  5. in the properties of this part it says it is capable of target tracking. what exactly does this mean? can I just select a target and it will fly to it or something? also, how do I use it?
  6. how do you see all three decimals? i can only see one...
  7. are you talking about me? I bought the game in januari and what is wrong with jeb? he's awesome! - - - Updated - - - are you talking about mine?
  8. unfortunately the order in which the images appear screwed up, don't mind that. my entry: http://imgur.com/a/2rZJ3#0 the embed code didn't work, so I just used a link. I did not really build it for the points, more just for fun. here is the score anyway: -no reaction wheels: X -speed: 60m/s, so that will be 60 points. -mass: X -time: 10m 46s, 36 points according to my calculator -amphibious award: X -two-legged award: X -stunt award: 2 points -xenon master: X -greenpower elite: X -aesthetics master: well, it does not look bad. furthermore, I did some things like nosecones and panels and matching solar panels to make it look better, so I am going to count two points for effort. you may deduct these points if you wish to do so. 2 points. total: 100 points. nice number. EDIT: added a download here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/0il9c68qf4phtid/Solar%20plane%20Mk1.craft?dl=0
  9. alright, this seems to be a dead topic. I think I scared people away with the overcomplicated scoring system that made no sense. I am closing this topic, although I might soon make a smilar but less complicated version of this.
  10. about the payload score: take a look at how heavy the load is(tonnes). then multiply that by the speed at which it hit the target(m/s). then multiply that by (the amount of bombs times 1.2) then divide that by fifty. there you have the payload score. furthermore, I fixed the issue with my graphics card, so I will soon be attempting this as well.
  11. I finally managed to get a stock one going: furthermore, not all of you mentioned if you used FAR or stock KSP. please update your posts.
  12. I have been working on a stock version for about 5 hours now, but I just did not manage to acquire such speeds... my top speed so far was 280 m/s.
  13. I updated the rules a bit. but it's about STRAIGHT flight, so no diving please. - - - Updated - - - Thanks everyone for your submissions! I will make a scoreboard wednesday.
  14. the problem is, when exploring the entire kerbolar system you actually have something to do on your hands: build rockets, launch things, steer in the right direction, set maneuver nodes, land, in/decrease throttle, dock things, that sort of stuff. but this is just flat out sitting pressing W and sometimes steering a bit. seems really boring to me.
  15. how patient were you? with the speeds land/water vehicles travel(usually between 25-100m/s) it would take days to circumnavigate a body like kerbin. I for one am not going to attempt this one since I lost my patience long ago, back in school...
  16. wow! I never really thought of making something that uses an external command seat... I always just put huge cockpits and fuel tanks on!
  17. I am once again not dissappointed in your craft! I really want to build one for myself as well but unfortunately I am having trouble with my graphics card. if I manage to fix the problem I will build one myself! - - - Updated - - - well I don't like BDarmory too much because it's just too easy to strap a million missiles and bombs onto your planes with that. you can still post your craft, but they will not be in the main leaderboards. try to edit them a bit for the stock challenge so you can actually enter the main leaderboards.
  18. So I have been working for a long time now to try and achieve speeds over 320 m/s(speed of sound) in level flight below 500 meters. I never got past about 220 m/s. So here's a challenge: build something that can go faster than 320 m/s below 500 meters! Rules: - No mods, other than visual and information mods. you may use FAR, but you will have to state that in your post. you will be put in a different scoreboard. - Do not go higher than 500 meters above sea level(duh). - Do not use rocket engines. only airbreathing engines are allowed because they are so efficient. - NO use of glitches like infiniglide or flapping with lots of control surfaces. if any such glitches/exploits are used, you are no longer allowed to post any submissions on this thread and all your posts will be deleted immediately. - The entire flight must take place below 500 meters, and you may not use a dive to increase speed. remember, this is about straight flight. There will be a leaderboard; the fastest person is the winner! Good luck! Leaderboards: Stock KSP: 1. Norup with 365 m/s 2. GoSlash27 with 362 m/s 3. Van Disaster and n.b.z. with 361 m/s 4. Deutherius with 332 m/s 5. BoobyTrapGaming with 331m/s With FAR: Coming soon!
  19. well this would be quite a hard challenge since you can't use the efficient air-breathing engines underwater. perhaps making a craft with Ion engines would be capable of staying underwater for longer durations. might attempt this myself as well.
  20. I have edited the post a little, you can find the rule in the bottom. furthermore, seeing what you did with the other bomber challenge I am very excited to see your design!
  21. wow, I did not expect that thing to ever fly with FAR. but hey, it's ridiculous and it's flyable, so I am happy anyways! It's always fun to make something absolutely ridiculous and stupid fly and show it to others.
  22. So I updated my craft conform to the rules. sorry about that. I also made some slight improvements, for example it now uses jet engines so you can fly it a little further. here is the craft file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/pubuutohakq2kor/BoobyTrapGaming%27s%20Daf.craft?dl=0 I can easily fly it to the island runway. turning is decent as long as you bank&yank. use action group 1 to lift the nose off of the ground for take-off. good luck with this one!
  23. So I saw a challenge in this forum where you have to make and extremely heavy bomber to fly to a peninsula on kerbin and deliver an extremely heavy payload there. Now i was thinking of another bomber challenge, though not as heavy. The concept is as following: you have to build a bomber that can fly to the other side of the planet and back. On the other side there is a little island. you have to go there and deliver your payload there. The island is found in the green circle. the main objectives are: 1. Build a bomber that can fly to the island and back. 2. Deliver any payload at the island. 3. Land back at the KSC. there are some rules: 1. You may not use too much part clipping. slight clipping is okay, so long as you don't do things such as hiding wings within wings and hiding control surfaces within the body of the aircraft. 2. You may not use reaction wheels or RCS thrusters in atmosphere below 40.000 meters. Just activate them using an action group. EDIT: You may use reaction wheels during VTOL flight since otherwise proper VTOL control is very hard to achieve. do NOT use them at speeds exceeding 25 m/s of surface speed. 3. You may use any engine available. you are allowed to go into space(you can go to jool on the way there for all I care) to get to the target and back. 4. You may not use mods(aesthetic mods are allowed, since they don't alter the actual gameplay). Your score will be calculated using a points system. please calculate your score and show me how you calculated it, so I can check it. You will get 100 points for completing the main objectives. Every minute you spend from start to landing back at the KSC will count as -1 point. when you have landed, simply click the revert flight button and make a screenshot: it will show the total flight time there. The payload delivers points. this will be calculated as following: weight(tonnes) X speed(surface m/s) X (amount of bombs/missiles X 1.2) : 50 You may carry bombs or missiles, It doesn't matter. If they can be guided into a target with control surfaces or RCS or whatever, your score doubles. maintenance costs points: every part is -0.1 points. There are also some secondary objectives: these deliver extra points and the list might be updated with your suggestions. +0.1 points per m/s of maximum airspeed when flying under 500 meters above sea level when fully loaded. +20 points for the bomber that can complete the mission the fastest. +30 points for VTOL capability. +15 points if it is capable of destroying the VAB(you may use a different payload than the payload for the actual mission for this one). +10 points if the bomber can be refueled on the runway. +25 points if the crew can safely get in and out on the runway. +50 points if all the above objectives are complete, EXCEPT for the first and second objectives. +60 points if you come up with some sort of aiming system for bombs that are not guided. it does not have to be too accurate at all. The contest ends the first of august, so you have lots of time to come up with something. In the meantime I will make and update a scoreboard of the best 5 submissions. I recommend that you record the whole thing using a screen capture demo, for example bandicam. You may also do this with screenshots. If you can provide us all with a download of your craft that would be nice too. EDIT: you may use multiple submissions, but please don't make them too similar. there have to be major differences, not just version A or B. If you wish to post a later version, please delete the post with the old version first and notify me in you new comment that this replaces an old version. Good luck!
