  1. Disliking a crucial part of the new part is an entirely valid criticism. In addition, many people don't like to use mods, and essentially discouraging feedback about the design in favor of using a third-party ramshackle solution isn't a great idea.
  2. Like a sort of mafia. Perhaps The Modfather?
  3. Love your username. Consider Phlebas reference?
  4. It's a good engine and I use it fairly often, but it looks like something out of a cartoon. It's got a ridiculously tiny engine bell, a strange spherical combustion chamber, and pipes/nozzles sticking out wherever they thought it would look good. It looks nothing like a real-life engine.
  5. I'm going to repost this from another thread. We have these: So why do we still have these?
  6. During the KPE3 Twitch stream KasperVld said that he didn't think it was.
  7. I'd rather just see the amount of electric charge needed increased, the number of ore hotspots decreased, and the mass of ore increased, along with other nerfs. In theory words, make it so you really need a good amount of infrastructure built up on a planet before ISRU becomes economical.
  8. That's the point. Reputation as a forum reward system does not in any way equal your standing as a member of the community. I have quite a bit of rep, but do I deserve it? Heck no. I just posted enough things in the Spacecraft Exchange. I see dozens of people every day posting all over the forum, being helpful or witty or smart, and that's what I judge them on. What matters is what people think when they look at what you've written in your post, not when they look right above your avatar.
  9. I don't want to overstate my opinion here, but it seems a bit incongruous to me that these parts: are in the same game as these parts: That is all.
  10. Oh hey! Yeah, it's not quite finished, but I'll probably put it up on KerbalX when it's done in a week or so.
  11. New milestone screenshot: http://imgur.com/jRpgEBP New crew canister (no IVA for 1.1, maybe later), and this will be replacing the current Mk1 cockpit.
  12. Actually, NASA is interested in SpaceX's barge landing attempts because of their use of supersonic retropulsion. Essentially, powered landings from orbit with heavy objects. They're keen on it because they don't get to do anything like that, and that data is very useful for landing heavy cargo on Mars.
  13. Hey! After a good sleep on it, I managed to get it down without a single part overheating. Not particularly difficult, either! I installed three pairs of airbrakes, and the radiators I mentioned earlier: What also helped was dipping the nose of the plane down below 0 degrees, so the top wings soaked up some of the heat instead for a bit. It helps that this plane is pretty maneuverable for its size. It is a damn shame that these wings have the temperature max that they do, considering some of the science instruments have a higher max. Oh well. On an related note, it would be interesting to see what you could do with your K-33 Venture Star this update. Always loved that guy.
  14. Thanks! -So far heating seems to be okay with a few airbrakes/aerobrakes, and a bank of radiator panels that look pretty sweet anyway. It's still not even over a hundred parts yet, so I'm happy. -Yup, tank placement is not final, although curiously the largest amount of drag is coming off of the engines. This is literally my first SSTO, so it's sort of learn-as-I-go.
  15. Having the same issue, although I refuse to give up on such a pretty plane. I figure I'll try radiators and airbrakes, as well as a very languid reentry, aerobraking multiple times.
  16. I'm not going to use 2 or 3, I'm trying out 6 of them. That way they shut off in pairs as it gains altitude until it reaches apoapsis, where the nukes kick in. We'll see how it goes. Say, do you have an experience working with these wings? They tend to heat up quite a bit on reentry.
  17. Yup, it's VTHL. It handles pretty smoothly, although it does like to nose downwards once you go to fast. Hard to fix. It doesn't need any SRBs even with a full payload bay, although I've debated switching out the two Mainsails for an aerospike/Skipper combo. Once in orbit it switches over to a nuke OMS system for max efficiency.
  18. Since I'm not working on it, might as well show a little bit. Old SPR prototype.
  19. Hey! I was just wondering how you got those to reenter because the FAT-455 wings have such a low heat tolerance. Mine blow up every time.
