  1. interesting concept for planet-to-planet conflict. Think Mars vs Earth. Most infrastructure will be in orbit, so in a 'fixed' place. The spinnlauncher would be the equivalent of continental ballistic missels. You have a somewhat massive satellite. One ring with tethers with rockets on the end (10-12 maybe). a counter rotating weight. Spinn up while your planet is blocking observation and release. Since the missels are not using their engines you have basicly a 'stealth' launch. Or at least stealthier.
  2. you could allways just refuel lunar Starship, bring it back to LEO and use any normal dragon to bring crew home...
  3. This relative velocity looks extremely high to me. Considering that both are moving in the same general direction, a velocity above escape velocity sounds strange... I mean I don't say it is wrong. I am just surprised.
  4. obviously the first town on a new planet has to be called first landing. Countless of Scifi stories tell us that. The real question is who will build it? I can envision a permanent laboratory.... but a town?
  5. yeah but usually you don't launch rockets that size at this rate. Having a way to move booster and Starship seperatly to the launchpad and then stack them right there might be easier than stacking them somewhere else and then moving the whole stack.
  6. Go the other way. Instead of bringing stuff home, use your free Spaceships as Trash haulers. Dump Radioactive Waste and such into the sun. And be paid for it of course. Governments spend billions waterproving old salt mines etc. to store radioactive waste...
  7. Ok i have a question. This might be pretty stupid, and i freely admit i have very limited knowlege about this stuff. So feel free to roll your eyes or something . Iron changes its behaviour pretty massively depending on stuff you mix in. Add some carbon -> steel. Add some trace amounts of other stuff -> steel with vastly different brittelnes, melting points and so on. Could this be possible for metal hydrogen ? Maybe you could make it metastable to a degree by adding the right mix of "pollution" ?
  8. Maybe i am reading this wrong but...isn't that just a complicated way of Crossfeed? With Planes instead of Falcon Heavy?
  9. now that is a cute little baby rocket!^^
  10. I guess the least turbulence you would get on a train. Or in a car ;-)
  11. Not selfless. You need to change your picture. Those Guys (Elon and Bezos) have more money than they ever need. They use that Money to "force" the reality to be like they want it to be. That is very egocentric. ;-)
  12. Can't you use the new In-Vehicle interaction-thingy and simply move a structual part in position?
  13. Just call it Bob. Or "that base over there". We need less dignity in our spacestuff or some idiot might put a flag on it and start a war.
  14. using my 10 fingers, i take my smartphone, write a small app with a button and a counter that goes up every time i hit that button(30 min max developing time). Now i can count almost abitrarily high with only one hand! :-P Addendum: using a long to store the count i could count to 9,223,372,036,854,775,807 ...everything after that requires some thinking/google.
  15. Well even if it's only a 1000 People it could still call itselfe a city. And even the capital of mars!
  16. Thanks for moving. Was not sure if discussion is the right place for "help me obi wan"-stuff.
  17. Hi. I am trying to use Kopernicus to change Duna in a partialy terraformed version of it. Steps: - Increase atmospheredensity and add oxygen. (done). - add small areas of water. And here the problems start. I was able to add a ocean but i have massive z-fighting (or something that looks similar). The water is not visible on the map. The closer you get the more z-fighting and finaly the water vanishes. There seem to be no textures on the water. Anyone able to show me my mistakes? modifications in system file: here some pictures:
  18. There are, however, a lot of mods( wich are free) that allow you to get a better simulation. Like a Earth sized Kerbin for example.
  19. You found a Rocketbooster lying at the side of the road? That reminds me of something...
  20. So...basicly they show they can animate a video? (and yes i know they ARE building hardware...but there is nothing of that in the video. Basicly it could just mean anything. )
  21. Ran into a site of a manufacturer of mini-monoprop engines for smallsats a while back. They had a throttle range for their engines listed and a performance loss at max throttle. (was somewhere around 5% loss). Edit: found the site: http://www.busek.com/technologies__greenmonoprop.htm If you look at the second engine, it goes from 50 mn to 500 mn and the isp varies between 220 and 225. Hm thinking about this... there is no clear indication this is related. Damn mind jumped to conclusions i guess.
  22. Ok first: Before the wolfhound everyone used the poodle for everthing happening in vacuum. So...poodle OP? There will allways be a "best" engine for every situation. Want a super efficent vacuum engine but still have a good TWR? wolfhound. Want a super efficent vacuum engine and don't care about TWR? NERVA. Want a efficent vacuum lander engine? poodle. Want a efficent vacuum lander engine that is small? terrrier. On a side note: i still use the terrier/poodle as my normal vacuum engine... a) for a good designed Kerbin-system-ship 350 ISP is more than good enough. b) wolfhound is to so big it screws every design that is supposed to land somewhere. c) 37 tons thrust is just to much for "normal" spaceships. And this is a single player game...who cares about balance? You? well good news: you can just not use it. Or edit it. Or delete it. What's the problem again?
  23. Random idea on BFR rework. Incooperating stuff that was on the SpaceX to-do list(crossfeed) or is allready done (sideboosters) : The BFS is made longer and has a mixture of ASL and VAC engines. Two smaller Bosters are sidemounted. Sideboosters and ASL engines of BFS ignite at launch, where the BFS-ASL engines are feed from the boosters tanks. BFS ignites VAC engines, shut down ASL engines. Boosters seperates and do return. ASL engines engines on BFS are switched to internal tanks (while shut-off) fuel lines are flushed to remove any bubbles and ASL engines reignite.
  24. regarding that table...what is the deal with this lithium borohydride? It look's like pretty much ideal rocket fuel. High energy, high density, boiling point at 380 degree celcius... is it super toxic or someth never mind, google answered it after adjusting the search words a bit.
