Been shuttling kerbals back home from various stations and outposts... 17 in total.
-
It was just tongue-in-cheek about how KSP has got me thinking about things... everything is just 'science'. I do feel bad for the setback, a lot of people's hard work, but I'm positive this will just make things better and safer going forward.
-
"we lost a lot of research..." I believe the correct term is science. This stream has weird stuttering for me, anybody else?
-
Crap, that sucks

Do you have a screenshot that makes you laugh every time?

RAPIERs and Turbojets are amazing in 1.0.3

I made an SSTO spaceplane that can actually carry cargo! Up until now they have only been crew transport. 10t cargo, 35t at launch. I'm sure it's a mixture of me getting better, and the new changes. -
Made my first cargo spaceplane, can put slightly more than 10t into LKO.

Yeah, the big thing that gets me is how far the SAS overshoots when rotating to a new node, especially on big craft with just a reaction wheel. I can do it manually, hold down A until you're halfway there, then hold down D for the second half, but I don't want to have to. But I wouldn't call it hate by any means. Just a little niggling thing.

Alright, I dunno what happened, but the Archer Mk1 stopped working. I added a pair of struts to the back, and took out the two small fuel tanks in the cargo bay, and I could no longer get to mach 1. Taking the struts back off, I still couldn't. I've heard of some drag bugs with cargo bays, so I wonder if I tripped that somehow. Anyway, after some redesign, I got the Archer Mk2 working. A little more LF/O, a little less payload mass, and it's simple enough to get to orbit. Crosses mach1 more easily than the first, at the expense of payload %. Archer Mk2 35.5t on runway, 9.9t payload in orbit = 27.88% Still very glad I can finally(without just copying someone else) get payload into orbit with a spaceplane.

If it were just the smoke trail, that's what I would have thought, but a crisp change in the sound makes me think it's something physics-related. Still in air-breathing mode, plenty of intake air. I turn my RAPIERs onto manual mode anyway and use action groups.
-
Right around 700m/s near at 1km, the visuals and sound of the RAPIER change drastically. I'm wondering what causes this, if it's an aerodynamic effect or if it has to do with the thrust/air intake at those speeds, or something else entirely. It's still in air-breathing mode too.

Stock Ultra-Heavy-Lift Challenge

Uh, well, you see... it's because... uh... well I thought I was Wasn't playing close attention, and I haven't unlocked the larger one in my career game so I'm not used to it. -
Edit: oh, ffs. I forgot to disable the two tanks in the payload. I'll change those out and update this. Woot. This is my first successful spaceplane that can actually carry a payload. Archer Mk1 33.7t on launchpad, 10.17t payload = 30.17% Have to fly pretty much level off the runway until it crosses the trans-sonic region, then it climbs like a champ.

Largest ship you've launched into Orbit?
LittleBlueGaming replied to jkool702's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Just launched an 1100t payload into LKO. Entire thing was almost 300 parts, I was only getting 3fps at launch. Hardest thing I've ever gotten into orbit was my torus station core, just so much drag at the top of the rocket. -
I've noticed my smaller aircraft seem to flip, rather than turn on a dime at a bagillion-g's. Makes sense, you can't have a draggy nose and bank hard at 1000m/s. I use gentle inputs, trim adjustment now more than I used to.

Stock Ultra-Heavy-Lift Challenge
LittleBlueGaming replied to 666lumberjack's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Wide rockets work fine. 5550t on the pad, 1137.6t in orbit. Looks to be about the limit for my computer, 289 parts gives me around 3fps at launch, not fun to fly. Worth noting that fuel tanks are better than ore tanks for mass/part. -
I scared Jeb(pic 4).
-
I've never seen Jeb scared before...
-
Oh yeah, a name... Orebringer Mk1 Nothing special, just how I usually go about building these things. Asparagus staged. Flew the ascent profile a bit steeper than I normally do because the last engine by itself is just too underpowered in thicker atmosphere, but it naturally transitions to a shallow 50km-70km climb. 513.92t on the pad, 113.6t in orbit = 22.10%

It's either the involuntary spasms of a dying forum, or a new forum game has emerged.

I don't see anything about necromoaning-moaning, so quit your necromoaning!

Whoa, that's cool. Don't really understand it, but whatever. Clearly computers are better than humans at the shapes-in-clouds game.
