I just did a basic test using my X-55 HOTAS and so far the stick and throttle are recognized and work fine. Haven't tested mapping any buttons yet.

Although I have found for the x-55 that even with the Game input all the way down it is way too sensitive and over steers like an SOB.

That's the stick I was planning on using, so glad it works properly now :D

Are you sure the inputs aren't interfering with SAS? Try opening the mad catz software and softening the curves.

So is the opt-in beta just going to be a Steam normal beta or are we going to need closed beta codes?

You will be able to opt in as long as you have KSP on steam. No code required. (Emphasis 'on will be able to,' it's not open yet)

    Why?

    I have bought the game.

If your friend were "caught" distributing the game to anyone they would be charged with piracy, if I'm not mistaken.

While there is a 0.0001% chance either of you would be charged, I don't think it's really worth it.

I know it's not morally or logically piracy but the law doesn't usually care about that.

So I have discovered that a friend of mine also plays KSP and has his account on steam. Would there be any issues with me getting him to download the 1.1 prerelease and letting me use it in order to hunt for bugs?

    That would be piracy.

  5. Providing the open beta to store users is like resurrecting the Apollo program.

    1. It's damn near impossible

    2. Lots of work for very little benifit

    3. It would SoonTM be followed by a better, more solid mission/update

    4. The biggest reason behind it is to silence a small minority

    5. Everyone would like to see it done (especially me)

    6. It would use up NASA/Squad's resources that could go to more important things

    The list goes on.

So what is the means of getting on the list of people in the steam beta?  I missed the window of time to get in on the Experimentals group.  I'd really like to get as much of a headstart as possible on making the kOS mod become KSP 1.1 compatible.

All you'll have to do is allow Steam to download the beta. It won't be available for a few weeks, but they'll make an announcement when it's ready.

Once the 'closed' experimentals has been completed and the 'open test' begins the game and it's features will effectively be available to anyone to view and play with should they so wish.  Does this mean that the 'veil of secrecy' will then be fully lifted and that squad will be posting reports, details and images etc and that those taking part in the test will also be free to talk about it and post on the forums?  This will also allow those of us not participating in the open test (by choice or otherwise) to at least join in to a degree and ask questions and raise any concerns or issues from, at least, a position of 'some' knowledge.

The devs have been saying things like "We won't give any official performance numbers until we get experimental data"

My guess is towards the end of closed experimentals they'll start teasing us. It's been stated there won't be any restrictions on the people using the open beta, they'll be allowed to stream and post until the cows come home.

  8. As somebody who won't be able to participate I have no idea why some would think the beta shouldn't go out if it doesn't go out to everyone.

When its made available it will:

    1. Make the release come a week or so sooner, according to Squad staff.

    2. Make the release higher quality because, no matter how you slice it, there will be people that find bugs in the pre-release that wouldn't have been found otherwise.

As much as I would like to experiment with 1.1 early, I don't think the fact that others get 2 weeks of playing with a potentially broken game is that bad. As I've said before, no matter what happens 1.1 will be released in all its glory soon. Eventually we'll get over this whole thing and just play the game.

(Sorry if my continuous posting is getting annoying)

imho squad should let people transfer to steam again.

If that were a viable option Squad would already be handing out Steam codes to anyone that asked.

They can't do that anymore because the cut that Steam takes from your KSP purchase wouldn't be going to them but you'd still be using their services.

All the while we exactly now that constant and fast updating isn't possible through the KSP store.

Worth mentioning (again) that updating through the KSP store isn't possible at all. When updates are released Squad rents extra severs to handle traffic for a few days. To rent them for two weeks would cost absurd amounts of money.

If there is a way to get the early access without Steam, please tell me and others how. I've asked already through other channels and was told that I needed Steam.

Other than high-profile mod creators you, me, and hundreds of others are out of luck for two weeks. Period. End of story.

@Perry Apsis I'd recommend replacing "beer" with something forum-friendly

Once you're rules-lawyering over exactly what that sentence means, rather than taking it to mean what it says, you've already decided to break your promise to everyone who bought the game through the store. It should not come as a surprise that they are upset.

But that rule was there in 2014 and not now right? I'm pretty sure they can change them, but let's not make this into a legal debate.

    Also:

"but the extent of the changes this time around is such that we feel we should open it up to everyone."

    I feel this isn't 100% truthful....

Now, aside from it requiring Squad to be deeply deceptive, what, *materially* is different in this timeline versus the one that's actually been announced?

I am 100% certain that people would figure it out and cause a massive uproar, much larger than the protests we're seeing now.

    ETA plz?

Sadly, we don't know for sure and neither does Squad.

Experimentals will probably take 2-3 weeks followed by the open beta if I'm interpreting this whole thing properly.

The open beta will mark T-2 weeks.

E: When I press next (or prev, first, last, etc) this comment section freezes. Refreshing will load the requested page. Anyone else experiencing this?

  15. Hopefully the salty-ness will die down Soon.

I started off very upset (like many others) but I recently realized:

That thing everyone's been hyped about for a year now? 64 bit? Physics optimization? Giant heat shields? Remember that? It's still coming, and it's nearly here. Nothing about that is changing. (As Kasper said it's probably coming ~1 week earlier than it otherwise would)

Sure, there will be a few awkward handshakes in the days after release, but that 2 week gap will mean less and less over time until we forget about it.

Let me stress that the 1.1 pre-release versions should not be considered something that's ready for normal use.

I would think it's stable enough to get a general feel for the update (new UI) but I've been wrong in the past.

  17. 3 minutes ago, aWildLupiDragon said:

The pre-release is intended to scrub out as much as possible, or else it would be much much worse, as much as you don't want to believe that.

    Our (store users) logic is:

Steam users = extension of the experimentals team

Store users = for teh lolz

Only problem is "teh lolz" would cost an enormous amount of money for very little benefit.

Here, we could keep everyone happy or even happier if they at least just provided a non updating pre release on the store.

They'd still have to pay for the hosting that will get used when 1.1 drops. Their servers cannot handle hosting updates alone.
