  1. I have almost the exact same mac, and for the most part the crashes have gone away completely. Hang in there - and follow the recommendations on this thread. I don't even know exactly which one worked, but I can play for hours now withouth crashing.
  2. JJ i noticed that as well - very odd. 50% of my cpu (which is 8 core so that's out of 800%) Tom hang in there- i have finally achieved long periods of no crashing. FOllow these steps - and keep your graphics settings low: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/125288
  3. Those workarounds helped noticeably - it's still crashing, but it seems to be far less often. A frequent one is right after splashdown, when you click "Recover Vessel" . Fortunately it auto-saves right then.
  4. DANG BLABBIT! So i tried the Lathe aerocapture, and KABOOM! Instantly. I was going 5400 m/s... is that enough to make the difference? I'm going to play with those atmos. settings now cuz this ain't funny
  5. Well as a matter of fact, I am only trying to get to Tylo anyway. So is my basic understanding of gravity assist correct: approach on the correct side of the planet according to the wiki, and you will lose DV to help you brake. This loss- it is proportional to your proximity to the moon in question? Does it basically make your subsequent retrograde burn at PE cost much less because of the gravity assist? or is burning retrograde at the PE of a potential gravity assist pointless, and only after the subsequent trajectory can you reap the benefits? i.e. entering into an orbit at Tylo cannot be assisted by its gravity...? What is the most DV efficient way of getting to Tylo? Gravity assist at Tylo, or Aerobrake at Laythe? I had thought it was aerobrake at Jool.. clearly not. And finally, WHY!!!! did the programmers change the statistics of Jool from one version to the next, especially so dramatically!!!!?!
  6. Hi human particle conglomerations. After doing much research and checking charts etc, I think something is.... amiss. I am entering Jools SOI from Kerbin like a normal person, and hitting Jool's atmo. at PE of 197km to try aerobraking. Obrit speed of 2500 i think. Two odd things happen - One, as I get close to PE, my orbit vector line on the map seems to dip into the atmosphere of Jool.. sort of bending... Is this normal? Why's it bending? That looks bad! Secondly, the MOMENT i hit the atmosphere, I explode. No warning, not heating up gauges, etc. Help! I must aerobrake to save the other monkeys I stranded at Tylo! thanks, Cam
  7. ... with this game? It's one of the best game I've ever played in my 40+ years of life, and also the crashiest. I'm so used to it now, I just quicksave any time I change scenes, because there's at least a 50% chance I'll get the spinning ball of death. Unmodded install on sweet iMac, 16gs ram, os 10.9.5 Steam version - 1.0.3 I believe? Hard to tell, but it's set to auto-Update. Everyone on a mac has this problem, correct?
  8. Think i figured it out - at least it fixed everything for me. The key is to move all the files in GameData called ModuleManager.#### into your new gameData directory as well as the other mods. (I only moved the subfolders before, e.g. KIS, Mechjeb2, etc) Additionally, I moved my save game folder out of the Kerbal directory, deleted and re-installed the game, but I think the above was the step i was missing, since that didn't work by itself. Incidentally, this all happened after migrating to 1.0.3 from 1.0.2
  9. I have the exact same issue - no tech tree, ships just sticking to the floor.... Any fixes? Mac, Kerbal 1.0.3
  10. rofltehcat you are a ROCKSTAR stupid key sequence! Now it works. Basically I made it all the way to one of Jool's moons, and my RCS dried up. So i need to move the Vernol engines from the booster stage up to my lander... it's gonna work now! YOU HAVE SAVED MANY KERBALS! well... three....
  11. Hi - for the life of me i can't find the answer to this anywhere. I have KIS and KAS installed- all I need to do is move an RCS port from one end of my ship to the other. However, I can't seem to drop the detached part into my inventory to carry it with me... Any help hugely appreciated. I'm on a Mac.. maybe it's a bug? thanks!
  12. Awesome answers - I knew what the different handles on the nodes do, but pointing out that there are transfer windows b/w Jool's moons points me in the right direction...!
  13. See these are great answers - which leads me to ask, HOW do you know this?? Just experience? I enter Jool's SOI and just start pulling maneuvers.. hoping for some magic ... but I'm doing it blind. The 'encounter Pol at your AP' tip is great, and makes sense, and I might have figured that out eventually...same with Enter Jool 'prograde'.... but the other tips? Just trial and error? Thanks by the way! And yes, I'm using porkchop's min. Delta V. I have that figured out at least.... The question i have boils down to "How do you fly around Jool's system the most efficiently.. without blindly setting up Maneuver nodes"
  14. So I'm trying to fly to Pol and back, with a crew of three. I know how to calculate the Dv, mostly.. Esp. with the help of charts... and I know how to rendezvous with a target. But STILL... I can't seem to get to Pol without burning WAY more DV than I find in the online charts. Like 4k to line up with it even upon approach to Jool. Here's the frustrating thing: I know what I'm doing, sort of. I have Mechjeb, and I'm not afraid to use it. But even with my own knowledge of rendezvous strategy, and using Mechjeb's "fine tune to 20 KM to target" etc, etc, etc ....I STILL can't get lined up. What are some good tactics for hitting Jool's moons, or any kinda thing in that realm? Here's what I know, so no need to repeat it: Use Porkchop transfer from Mechjeb to find the right date and angle to get to Jool. Once you're on the way, check your encounter- the sooner you make changes the better, fuel-wise. If you make it into Jool orbit, you can treat Pol like a "target" and sync up your AN's / i.e. your respective inclinations... but even at this point this may be prohibitive. So I guess here's the question: You're approaching Jool. What's the most DV efficient way to land on it's moons? How do you decide whether Aerobraking is a good plan for you or not, etc?
  15. Wait .... Submarine??? I was hoping for that in the next version. Can you do that now??
