Wich real life rockets do you think look kerbal
.50calBMG replied to Youre_avarage_Kerbal's topic in Science & Spaceflight
The Delta III is a bit unusual. -
Now they are all making new rockets just to try and keep up.
-
I haven't yet seen a launch that didn't have any little "Ice Monsters" (thank you Chris B, calling them that from now on) floating away after engine cutoff.
-
Anyone have any idea what the engine layout for the booster is? Dont think they showed it during the presentation, but it looked like there were 2 rings and a center cluster like the old one. The outer ring looked pretty spread out too
-
And be honest, how many of you are already building this thing?
-
Well, I'm gonna be grinning like an idiot for a while now.

music has started

If I had to guess, I might say something along the lines of the general public thinking Mars is impossible for humans to get to, but the moon is much easier, and would be more likely to fund it because it seems more reasonable.

I know it wont be as good not to see it live, but there is always youtube tomorrow. meanwhile, I'm sitting here with a falcon 9 shirt and spacex jacket on. Time cannot move fast enough
-
I think I remember Musk saying at one point that under the right conditions they could get a 1:1 glide ratio on returning stages, just can"t remember where. I think it may have been at the IAC last year, but I could be wrong.
-
On an unrelated note, I found a few more ideas on how the Raptor engines could be clustered on a 9m BFR booster thanks to reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/SpaceXLounge/comments/6pccdz/comparison_of_several_possible_engine/
-
But CRS-1 and 2 were on the Falcon 9 1.0, which used the Merlin 1Cs. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the 1C vacuum version did have the gimballed exhaust for the preburner.
-
Did they have the improved landing legs on this one or was that not happening until block 5?
-
Not sure if you have seen this yet or not, but there is some Z-fighting on the tribus probe bus.

[1.4] SpaceY Heavy-Lifter Parts Pack v1.17.1 (2018-04-02)
.50calBMG replied to NecroBones's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Like stevie said, only the inner engines have gimbling on them, so maybe you could split it up into two parts; the outer two rings being their own piece at 7.5 or 10m, and a seven nozzle inner part at 2.5 or 3.75m with gimbling on a hidden attachment node. The video showed the boost-back burn with the center cluster and the middle ring firing all at once, but the landing was only on the center cluster. If you did it that way, you wouldn't have to worry about multiple mode switching or setting 42 engines individually. -

Or he could do what he did with his other engine groups and make one engine with 42 engines and do a mode switch. -

good transfer burn .

@sojournerI knew it would be coming faster, but i thought its landing velocity would be more like the one from last month. those legs certainly aren't as dainty as they look.
-
is it just me or did it seem to land kinda hard?
-
could you possibly put up a github or curse link for this as kerbalstuff is no longer among the living?
