Not true. People play KSP with real-sized solar system, n-body physics and realistic engine plumes. It does require a beefy computer, but nothing exceptional (and some of the problems are because KSP just isn't too well optimized). They also don't make the game all that much more of a chore.
we were talking about simulating EVERYTHING... as in everything I said like particle smashing, realistic environmental destruction, PLUS all the things I didn't mention that KSP doesn't do...
Think you jumped in on that one without reading what we were saying properly -

Yes, Eeloo is a bit closer to Kerbol than Earth to Sun.
Really??? Wow, I didn't realise that one thanks!

It is closer, but because the sun is smaller, it also emits heat at a smaller range. Idk if squad actually did the math to put kerbin and jool in accurate spots, but judging by the fact that the next planet over is literally an icy waste land, we can assume that it's pretty cold in the Jool system.
If Squad didn't, somebody in the forums somewhere definitely did I saw a post about it a long long time ago Yeah, not somewhere I'd want to go without quite a large coat.
Thinking about it, does Laythe have water or is it some other liquid? Explodium seas or something I've seen in the forums? Lower freezing point?
But I agree, in reality, I think virtually every substance would be pretty darn frozen on laythe -

turning the game into a headache simulator.
aye, that it would be Also you'd need one hell of a computer to simulate it all!
9 minutes ago, Athen said:I don't think it's that realistic that Laythe has liquid water on its surface that far away from the sun.
Not sure how this works in regards to Kerbol's temperature etc. but I think Jool is actually closer to its star than Earth is to the sun... if I'm looking at the numbers properly
KSP has such a dinky solar system lol -

Career, though I do like your idea of science = funds
I tried the no revert/respawn thing and I had no money, and no kerbals by the end of the year
I've been experimenting with it and it is really fun to play that way. You do have to do a bit of tweaking with rewards/starting funds etc because it rapidly becomes either incredibly grindy or stupidly easy

As much as I love KSP... this list you want us to write could be as endless as real world science is itself. It's only a simulation of basic orbital mechanics at the end of the day :) But if you want major "mistakes" (I'd argue most are for gameplay reasons, not genuine mistakes) then we could start with;
- Unrealistic aerodynamic simulation
- Unrealistic 2-body gravity physics
- Sun is the wrong colour/temperature for its size/mass
- Kerbin is stupidly dense for its size
- Kerbal fuel is not very dense at all
- No radiation
- Kerbin atmosphere just suddenly stops (not realistic at all)
- Kraken drives
- No real need to worry about satellites/stations overheating without radiators as they do in real life
The list could go on forever... especially if you start saying things like "KSP is inaccurate because it doesn't simulate neutrinos" or "I can't smash electrons together" or even as simple as "I can can crash a 1000t vehicle into the ground at supersonic speeds but there is no crater.. not even a scratch". They all sound pretty inaccurate scientifically which makes them "mistakes", I suppose.

as the readouts dont seem at all accurate when testing the craft.
have you told the readout that you will be launching on EVE?

I play regular career mode, before that I tried sandbox but I was overwhelmed due to the amount of parts available. I think that regular career mide flattens a little the learning curve due to the unlocking of new parts in a progressive way :-D
very much agreed, I figured this one out as soon as I bought the game... went to Sandbox, thought what the fudge is all this? and went straight to career instead :P

Yes, I like to take a holistic approach with my Kerbals too... keep them free-range and organic whenever possible

Just so you all know, I actually gave my idea a go...
Set up:- -10% science rewards (adjust depending on how grindy you want it to be)
- -10% funds rewards (adjust depending on how grindy you want it to be)
- 500% reputation penalty
- No quickloads
- No reverts
- Purchase parts *ON* (parts are unlucked with tech AND funds with this option on)
- Starting Science 2700
- Starting Reputation 750
Start game...
Open deubg > set facility and tech to maximum > use admin building and use the Patents Licencing strategy > set to 100% (which costs 2700 science).
Use debug to set reputation back to 0 (there's some weird behavior with this step... -100 doesn't subtract 100).Now, every single experiment you do contributes towards your level of funding! With this approach, a successful science trip to the mun simply gives you more funds to pump back into R&D!
So far its quite an interesting way to play + science seems to make a little more sense now... instead of a goo experiment unlocking a new engine for some reason, its more like a successful mission is rewarded with funds which can then be used to unlock an engine
Also, if you want a slightly easier start, set starting funds a bit higher - I do this as I'm personally a little bored of the first 2/3 missions at this point -

A post or two has been removed. You do not win anything for pointing out that a thread is old, guys.
I was very specifically told otherwise. I demand my prize!

big bird that! looks pretty part heavy too.. whats the count?
with a redesign you could probably have swiveling engines instead of those dedicated VTOL engines -

No sooner had I published my Victor II aircraft for aerial deployment of navaids, I realized how to protect the fragile HG-5 relay antenna and jam five of them into a Victor...
So, one can not only make a navaid network for Victor airways (so-called), but one can also make a ground-based relay network.
...and/or ocean-based! This version is Victor III.
still using the old texture for the service bay?

My specs are a GTX 1070, with a Ryzen 5 2600X and 16GB of RAM.
ooh also.. what kinda fps you getting? I'm looking to upgrade soon

"Dibs is American slang for claiming something as yours"
I think the entire English speaking world knows this one... the word in that usage alone is close to a century old and has existed in other forms for longer lol
You'll be telling us what "cool" means next... a word even more recent that dibs lol. -

Why just 4?
tbf I don't have *any* friends that play ksp...
though I know what you mean, would be super nice for community challenges (especially of the air combat variety) for more than 4. -

Yes, and gallons.
Because NASA uses metric and tbf... gallons and miles are literally defined using a metric value

My landers tip way-way to often and despite having 70 hours in the game have never successfully docked two rockets in orbit.
don't worry, 70 hours is absolutely nothing in ksp I've got over 2100 hours now and there's still so much I haven't even tried yet

KS3P.
I'd never heard of this one before... THANK YOU. incredible looking mod!
-
WOW... I've no idea how I've only just discovered this mod!
Amazing work! Can't wait to give it a try tonight... even if I am running 1.8.1 on an APU (A10-7870K) lol -

4. Pass on mods, I usually play almost pure stock.
Same.. sort of. The only mod that adds parts that I use is ScanSat... other than that I use things like Chatterer, RealPlume, KAC... gameplay enhancements really

Is the community still as active as it was 3 years ago?
No.. I've noticed it being a lot quieter now than it has been in the past, but its certainly not dead and as far as I can tell, a fair few seem to have gone of KSP in lieu of KSP2... for some reason?
14 hours ago, Syntax said:Is spacedock still the go-to repository?
No, for the love of all that is Kerbal use CKAN!
14 hours ago, Syntax said:Which major mods have been deprecated or abandoned, and what awesome new ones have come out?
SETI - if you ever used that. It had some great features, but unfortunately the creator has gone AWOL and left NO permissions for continuing the mod... the annoying part is that the version is set to "any" meaning it lies about compatibility

Ok, here's something I actually did today and not just a comment about something from days of yore.
The tale of Little Flyer.
I decided to try and identify a location in the Kayak Club challenge, and to that end put together a small (and hopefully not too slow) aircraft to check it out. Here it is with Jeb at the controls heading down the runway.
For something so small it's got a pretty high takeoff speed (about 110m/s) and starts bouncing around a fair bit at 90 or so, making leaving Terra Kerma a little hairy.
Jeb down on the way out to the location he was heading to, as it would be dark when he got there. This was a more than a little tricky as Little Flyer likes to buck around a lot as soon as it touches the ground. But after four or five increasingly careful attempts, Jeb finally put the bird down.
Once the target area was in daylight, Jeb took to the skies once more and the view at the target location made the trip worthwhile.
After flying between the mountains, it was time to go down for a closer look.
The plan was to land on a small island in a lake beyond the mountains, which again proved tricky, what with an engine running out of fuel, the nose becoming too light due to fuel drainage and the generally awful dynamics of the aircraft. At least Jeb was still smiling, even if the plane was a little the worse for wear.
Finally Jeb managed to wrestle the thing to the ground... in one piece.
With that the first (and definitely last) flight of this monstrosity came to an end. So let's hear it for Little Flyer... a truely appalling little aircraft.
Is that Scatterer? I've not used it (never used EVE) for a long time because it wasn't worth the fps hit on my APU (A10-7870k... FX based garbage at this point)... and WOW, whatever you're using looks incredible! What are your system specs?
How do you like to play?

Yeah, you just buy them as you want to use them in vab/sph instead of buying the node
Or do you mean buy with science and not funds?
