  1. I would go to either Minmus or Duna, Minmus because it is close and pretty easy, and its low gravity is fun to play around with. Furthermore its also great if you are planning to build a base. Duna is fun because it is bigger, it has an atmosphere and its further away. But it also so far away that trips take a WHOLE LOT longer, so not great if you are planning a lot of changes and new modules. Btw you can use f1 to take screenshots they will be in KSP/Screenshots. Just remember that you will also have to press fn so you don't just lower your brightness. I can see that you are on mac so you can also use cmd-shift-4 for screenshots.
  2. Thats kinda like hating on people doing a Schiaparelli like mission but not crashing their lander. Just weird, and it seems like he is mad that he was not the one who did the challenge. And why would you not do it at the same time as the real Dakar? In my head, most of what he says does not make a lot of sense. Only thing i can see is that the rules are kind of blurry, but there is nothing other then that. GREAT CHALLENGE!
  3. Oh seems like i have offended everyone. I live by the motto: "One have first given up, when one cannot joke about it". But do not accuse me of cheating, i was five seconds faster in stage 2 than stage 1, that could might as well have been me just being slow at taking the picture. The Kerbinator has four big a** wheels with a crash speed of 250/ms so the only way i could loose one, was if the structural beam had hit the ground and got ruined(and it did a lot if times, so i did a lot if runs). Furthermore it had 3 junos so it could keep an average spee dof around 80m/s throughout the whole race. Why would i report you? you where just telling me your opinion, and i can defend myself from your accusations in other ways than reporting. No hard feelings, and have a good day Edit: btw BlackHoleSun also did his stage 2 A LOT faster than his stage 1, so its all about the car and the route you take.
  4. woah! woah! woah! it was not meant to offend anyone man. It was just a witty touch to my question, i was not making fun of people, and if you recover after a horrible accident, you have all my respect.
  5. The discussion was getting long so i have just moved it to this thread so we can keep the other one for the results. But why would you need saving for that? For jumping or things like that when loading? And the race only takes like 1-2 hours so most people can find time for that, if you can't you will have to do it after everyone has gone to bed. The finger-problem is hard to do anything about, since amputations and prosthetic hands are expensive and time-consuming.
  6. I tried everything, even tipping over the rocket by getting under it or by walking into its legs, but nothing helped me. So Jeb stood there in the mint for some days before he got back in the warm and cozy pod.
  7. You only have to post in the results thread, but if you want any advice, or want to show of your work, the entry vehicle thread is the place. I can furthermore also recommend to write your times in this spreadsheet by Katateochi as most of us have done. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1J0imIo-bJvBND5j-CoZRoQfFwkh68an5-_aG3sqfCxI/edit#gid=0
  8. The only point i can see in saving then, is to make sure that if your plane lands on your car you can reload, i find this very unlikely tho. But if this is what you mean, then you are right.
  9. That moment you realize that you have forgotten your ladder and are out of EVA propellant, so you have to send a new lander up that Jeb can reach from the ground so he can refuel and then go back to the old lander and then fly to Kerbin, leaving the new lander behind.
  10. Here you go @Magzimum! From this post and down it gets clarified that quicksaving/loading is not allowed: But I very much agree with you that the rules are incomplete.
  11. You can hold cmd and right-click it on mac and then press delete, guess it is ctrl and right-click on windows. Today i sent a dressteroidcatcher to Dres, but when it arrived all my fuel had magically vanished, so the crew flew straight past it and back towards the Kerbol. Guess that i will have to do it once again, I am going to bring the dressteriod to Jool to my station when i finally get it.
  12. Im just going to confirm this so Triop can do other things instead Have you ever seen the people in the real Dakar reseting or going back in time? no, didn't think so, so therefore the only there is to say is that: Quicksaving/loading is NOT allowed. I had a long discussion-ish-thingy with Triop and Panda in the old thread about ether it was or not. But it ain't if you loose a wheel you can either use KAS to take a spare wheel from your car and then attach it, or you can use KIS and KAS, and then have the wheel in a container. So you will have to do those two stages once again @Leafbaron and you will have to do the whole race again @Magzimum, sorry mates, but those are the rules and the only way to win is to practice the stages again and again, until you know you have to watch out. And now i guess i just have to say: good racing! (and try to do better than those \I/)
  13. Finished with "The Kerbinator" It has a top speed of 112 m/s (even higher when going downhill ofc) Its powered by three junos and some big electric wheels to accelerate faster. The tailfin at the back helps it keep its nose forward and not do flatspins on the ground. The spoiler stops spin and gives me control when I am in the air after going over hills together with two 1.25m reactionwheels. It has flaps to stop all the jet engines from burning when in-air. Its controlled in docking mode: Linear only gives you control over the wheel so i don´t tip over when i hit an unexpected hill. Rotation is activated by holding space down, its enables me to control reactionwheels and flaps, furthermore it also deploys the flaps to stop the junos And at last... Jeb is the driver My complete time with all the stages is 40:13 All the times can also be found HERE! Going back to the KSC once again!
  14. I'm going to fly out a Mk3 plane with a KAS winch in, and then fly it back and place it on the parking lot in front of the administrations-bulding
  15. Crossed it with a 187.8m, what a finish. Just sad that i cant park it back the the KSC
  16. I have driven several of the stages before, but today i drove them all like you are supposed to do, so you can kind of say that that was my first real test run. Even though i had to quickload 3 times, i did a way better time than expected, actually 33% less than i had calculated that i would use. But then, 600m before the finish line i hit a hill hard and loose my left front wheel. It was still able to drive but with the 105 m/s that i had gained from the hill, braking was deadly for "The Kerbinator". It was in fact almost only the cockpit that survived.
  17. Thats what i asked for, a description as clear as the sky on a sunny day. You can pack up an extra wheel or a solar panel in a KIS container, but no quicksave or bringing new vehicles. Thanks for the answer and for bearing with me, once again: GREAT CHALLENGE! you've got going here
  18. ^^Saving is not allowed. ^^Saving is allowed after each stage. Just as i thought i had everything in control, i get confused again. Is so that if i spin and loose two wheels between 3 and 4 i can go back to my quicksave at three and then continue? or is it just too bad, and i will have to start over once again?
  19. That was just want i wanted to hear. Guess i better hurry up and get some chutes on my car to stop those awful spins
  20. Yay! so if you are unable to drive, can you send another car out? can you have one ready at stage 4 or similar? or do you just have to start completely over?
  21. Here is my car/jeep/off-roader/The Dakara(need to find a new name) I can drive it just about anywhere, and its very durable due to the big gap between the earth and the underbody, and due to the great suspension of the wheels, biggest problem is staying on the ground, but i think i'll be fine. BTW, i assume that quicksaving/loading is allowed and that there is no penalty if you do so, but can someone confirm this? I kind of hope that it is not allowed, since that would make the race more interesting, thrilling and challenging. If you crash and are unable to drive any further, you would have to fly/drive a new rover out, but with the clock still running.
  22. Better make it heavier and remove the flaps then!!
  23. First I want to tell you what a good challenge this is @Triop! But i have a question about something thats slightly blurry in the rules. I have a ca. 10t plane with two small deltawings and three junos, but when i go over a hill would i have to turn the engines off? or could i just go down to Kerbin at a -60 degree angle? or may i glide as long as i can if just the engines are turned off? Wow, that was a lot of questions, but i hope that you can/will answer them! Im looking forward to participate in this great challenge.
  24. So you are the one who have been stealing my oceans!
