  1. After seeing your Areion, I felt like i had to show my Kantonov k16 and my MAKS-M off. Also to prove to @Halfdan and @obi_juan that i in fact can build air- and spaceplanes The Kantonov k16 is one hell of a beast with 8 Goliath engines and a enormous wingspan. It can easily carry the MAKS-M and is very stable to fly and pretty fast, but it is first after you have released the load that it shows its real flying capabilities. It is one of the best planes i have built, and very easy to fly unloaded with 4 engines turned off. MAKS-M Is very different, i hate flying it, in can't carry big loads, and i runs out of fuel quickly. It has two Vector engines to power it through the atmosphere and to orbit, and two Puff engines to perform orbital maneuvers. The MAKS-M is carried to a height of ca. 9000m, by first going all flat at low altitudes to get to a speed of ca. 300 m/s before it starts climbing at a 5 degree angle. When it reaches 9000m and still has a speed of 180 m/s it gets released and turns on the Vectors. Then it burns almost all of its lqfuel to get to orbit, But when in obit it uses the Puff engines. I have not yet been able to land it at the runway, but the problem is my lack of capabilities to bring it through the upper atmosphere, more than it is its lack of flying capabilities. When its empty, it is actually a very nice plane to fly.
  2. Thats a very nice looking plane you have got yourself right there @Halfdan, but out of those parts you use, i have the landing gear, the RCS, the tail fin and the terriers. So not too much. Through several tests on Kerbin i have however found that the terriers are bad to use on a Duna plane, and the sparks are much better. If you use 3 sparks instead of two terriers you will get more thrust and a higher Isp. The biggest of my problems aren't fuel though, its jumping when i land, and the very uneven terrain my base are located in. But i have a smaller unmanned science rover only 36 days away from Duna's SoI, so i will have a way to collect science soon. Then i can research some more and get better plane parts for a new plane.
  3. I thought that the plane would have enough lift to sustain flight at low speeds, but its stall-speed is around 70 m/s, so landings are rough. I have not yet unlocked airbrakes os i could not put those on. I have realized that i should have put bigger parachutes on it tho.
  4. In my science save my base has finally arrived to Duna and landed in a slightly sloped area. Now it is time for Jeb to bring his plane down from orbit so it can fly around and collect science. But landing the plane was slightly harder than i thought i would be, so i made a little video of how to land a plane on Duna.
  5. Im only saying what I have heard, so it might not be true, but the shockcone has a high heat resistans, which makes it great for SSTOs and supersonic planes. The ramp has a higher intake capacity, this means that it can be used at higher altitudes because it takes more air and oxygen in, but when you close it, it has a lot of drag. I have not even used the diverterless intake once, so i have no idea about what its pros and cons are.
  6. @Green Baron Thank you! The math gives perfect sense, and you answered it perfectly. Finally i can stop thinking about it.
  7. I stood in the bathroom yesterday when this question suddenly hit me, and i have not stopped thinking about since. I have no idea if it in any way makes sense, but here it is: I have a big 100 kg cube in space and nothing effects it, then i make it move with 10 km/h towards a not moving small 50 kg cube. When it hits the small cube would the small cube move with 20 Km/h? Would the big cube stop completely? Would they both move at the same speed? Or would something different happen?
  8. Does it have a pilot, or is it remote controlled? Because you can toggle commnet to give limited communication to remote controlled ships, while reentering the atmosphere, due to the plasma forming around your ship. You can turn it off in settings.

He is not a part of the development team anymore.
  10. Brilliant, I am glad i could help, even though it were just i silly mistake.
  11. I made another single propellant engine, this time in .625 size. I had a bit of a struggle unwrapping the sphere, but it got late so i stopped, i will have to wonder about how to do it tomorrow.
  12. It does but karbonite uses the stock resource system, while kethane uses its own. Kethane also offers engines and converters and so on. I believe that kethane has less parts, so if that is what you are going for, just use that. I like karbonite the best, but it is your choice.
  13. Since this was just a post to hear if people were interested in the idea, I have started an actual development thread: The moderators can close this if they like to, im not going to be using this anymore.
  14. This mod adds a new resource to the game in the form of explodium. Explodium is a substans found in the seas of Eve and it has some very nice properties as fuel. If you ever feel tired of sending out probes with scanners to find ore and then mine it for ever, this is the mod for you! Since explodium exist in the oceans, you can simply add a pump to your plane, and fill you tanks in a matter of minuts, instead of hours. All help is appreciated, no matter if it is ideas, models, textures or just feedback. Explodium is very good because it can be used in three different types of engines: In regular rocket engines, where it works as the oxidizer In single propellant engines, where it works alone by decomposing it. And in prop engines for planes where it also works as an oxidizer, but with higher efficiency. It has the downside of being unstable, so the tanks cannot handle big impact speeds. This is a fueltank holding both liquid fuel and explodium. You can find the rest of the album here!
  15. What i can see is that they move on Eve, Duna, Laythe and im not sure about Jool, but i think they do. But not on Kerbin, i just did it on a clean install to be sure, and it is the exact same.
  16. This is just what i needed to get even more joy out of KSP on my Macbook Air that couldn't take EVE. But i have one question, is it me who have done something wrong, or does the clouds not move on purpose?
  17. Wow! This is a really nice craft, and a good idea. The craft is both light, useful and it even looks quite sleek. And the way the bay works as landinggear too, it's brilliant.
  18. Thank you once again, but the idea was not mine. I am just doing the Elcano challenge originally created by Fengist, but right now managed by Claw. I can see that you have made a mission report, I am looking forward to read it.
  19. Yeah I have seen it in the map, but i have never been there. It should be the deepest point on Kerbin though.
  20. Episode 5. Im going to post all the pictures, except from the map, in spoiler boxes from now on for the sake of loading times.
  21. I did a bit of modeling today and textured a medium sized fueltank, it ended up looking pretty good.
  22. I am thinking very much about this, and i will try to make the engines only suitable for flight in Eve's atmosphere as a plane, and not as a rocket. Maybe the fuel will not be efficient enough to reach orbit, maybe it will be too heavy or something like that. Thanks! And thank you for the recommendation, it seems like a good book that i could definitely use to get some good inspiration.
  23. Thanks a lot!! The United States also used hydrogen peroxide in an experimental midget submarine, X-1. It was originally powered by a hydrogen peroxide/diesel engine and battery system until an explosion of her hydrogen peroxide supply on 20 May 1957. X-1 was later converted to a diesel-electric. It has been used in submarines together diesel, im just going to use liquid fuel as diesel. And i know that a submarine engine isn't the same as a prop engine, but its KSP. But for a rocket engine H2O2 can be used both as a monopropellant, and as a bipropellant. If used as a monopropelant: * The liquid hydrogen peroxide is fed with high pressure from a tank to a chamber filled with a decomposition catalyst. * The decomposition catalyst causes the hydrogen peroxide to decompose into water steam and oxygen. Heat is released by the reaction. The temperature of the formed gas mixture is about 650 oC. * After passing through the catalyst chamber the hot, high pressure gas mixture is released through a rocket nozzle. * The velocity of the gas flow after the nozzle becomes well over 1000 m/s and gives the rocket a considerable reaction force thrust. If used as a bipropellant: *The gas mixture after the decomposition of the hydrogen peroxide contains oxygen. The thrust force is increased if this oxygen is used to burn an organic fuel (liquid fuel), before it is released through the nozzle. This opens up for three different types of engines: One with liquid fuel and explosium as a prop. (efficient, but not so powerfull) One with liquid fuel and explosium as a rocket engine. (powerfull but not so efficient) And one with explosium as the only propellant. (more power full than the prop, but less than the rocket, but can run on explosium only)
  24. Eve's sea are filled a substans known as explodium. It is most likely an equivalent to hydrogen peroxide, which can be used as rocket fuel. So i got this idea of making an engine that runs on explodium, which only exists on Eve. Hydrogen peroxide can both be used as rocket fuel or together with other fuels as an oxidizer, but since i haven not got the needed skills to model, code and texture a prop, i have only made a rocket engine. But the idea is that you land in Eve's ocean, and load the explodium into your plane, and then you fly with it until you are dry, then you reload again. The engine: The fueltank (probably going to model this one a little more) And the "pump" that you use to get the explodium into your tanks: (I excuse for the cursor, and the slow gif, it plays at the right speed on imgur, but not here ) They are all1.25m parts and Im imagining that the engine will run on a mix of liquid fuel and exploduim, While he pump will need electric charge to work. But is it even possible to have a resource that is evenly shared all over Eve, but only in the ocean?
