So what song is stuck in your head today?

The first part (0:07-0:20) of No Diggity by Chet Faker sounds exactly like a part of another song, but I just can't remember the name of it, and I can't get it out of my head. Net even Shazam or Midomi could help. I really hope that somebody here knows it.

    Downloadable airships for hisenburg?

I do not have any designs, but you can probably find some at KerbalX.
  3. Is there a mod that adds longer truss pieces than the already existing "Modular Girder Segment XL" ? I know that NF construction exists, but I feel like its pieces are too big.

What did you do in KSP today?

I sent two spaceships towards Jool today, well one spaceship and one space station. Having a station around Jool has been a dream of mine for a while, so it's great that I have finally gotten it done, now I will just have to wait for it to reach its destination. The picture I got of the station is quite horrible tbh. The burn took a bit more than 10 min, but it is also a quite heavily loaded ship. Here is the ship that is carrying most of the crew that will man the station, and later some bases and other stations around the Joolian moon system. I think I have 6 kerbals aboard the station, and 15 aboard the ship, mostly pilots and scientists. This picture was better, you can even see Minmus, Mun and Kerbin down in the right corner, Kerbin is only a few pixels tho.

What did you do in KSP today?

@DarkOwl57 I have been looking for the cockpit you use on your very nice looking helicopter for quite some time now, and I thought I found it yesterday as being the "Meadowlark" in STX, but now I see that's not the case, so can I ask you: where is it from?

I'm pretty sure its actually Short Take-Off and Landing.

    New Planets

I must agree with @Blaarkies here, we do not need new planets, we need the ones we have to be more interesting. If Squad adds another gas giant, it won't change a lot of stuff, maybe a new Jool-five-ish-challenge will appear, but it will most likely just mean that we have some more places to collect science, and then be done. And also, it won't come in 1.3. I'm pretty sure that everything for 1.3 is done, or very close to done.

What did you do in KSP today?

TODAY I BROKE TIME, SPACE AND EVERYTHING IN AND AROUND IT! I have found that the Kraken lays somewhere on the edge of the SoI of Ike. Cause it was when I left Ike, that this strange phenomenon occurred, the scientists back at KSC are sure that it was because I got too close the the Kraken, and therefore it felt so threatened, that it had to distort the entire existence of the universe to stay hidden. When I got back to my station and had to dock with it, I realized how big of a problem this was gonna be, as space was very, very distorted in this area.

What did you do in KSP today?

Stelgy did some work on my D.O.L. today, she cleaned up some part that was no longer needed, and moved them to other places. When she got back inside, she made sure that the engineers got ready to build one of the ships that will fly between Ike and the station. I did not have a lot of time to play today, since I had to take the theory test for the drivers license I'm taking. I was incredibly nervous, but passed without a mistake, yay!

What did you do in KSP today?

I decoupled the engines from my Orbital Lab at Duna, and seconds later this was my station: Thank God I had just quicksaved After crashing the engines into Duna, this time without the Kraken attacking me, I sent out an autonomous mining rig to Ike, this will secure I always have plenty of rocket parts and fuel to build and power any crafts I want.

KSP Challenge: Build and Fly a Space Shuttle!

That's most likely because the Mark X Space Plane parts I used to build it, are modeled to look exactly like the X-37B . My version is a bit longer and has foldable wings for extra lift tho.

    Nothing to see here

Well you take the -30.5 score then, fine with me. But @Numerlor might not approve this since you haven't got a video, because think of all the ways in wich you could be cheating...

    Nothing to see here

Well then just take me off board, the "plane" could go around the KSC with a battery without loosing any energy, because the engine creates so much electric power, so of course it can do it without a battery. It can also land as long as the engine is running just a little. Im not going to record again since it takes quite a while, and i entered thisbecause it is just a mini-challenge that can be done with quickly. So i am not going to spend any more time on it. But it is a fact that the plane works with 5 parts without any cheating, it can land whereever since it has VTOL capabilties, it has a top-speed of app. 743m/s. 377-743/2 equals 5.5, so thats the score if you are going to keep me on there. If not, then someone else may take my design and get themselves a score of 5.5 or below if you can push the speed up a bit higher.
  14. Flamingo

    Nothing to see here

Here you have it @Numerlor. It's the engine that produces the energy needed, so as long as you don't turn it off completely, you'll have plenty of energy. And thank you for making me try again, this made me push my max speed up to 743m/s making the new score 5.5.

    Nothing to see here

Now that I have been corrected, I better come with an entry, so here I am. This little plane has a top speed of 717m/s and I figured out that the battery is unnecessary, so if you remove it the dry mass is 0.377t or 377kg. As you can see its 5 mk0 parts. It can land in the mountains, but I can not. according to my calculations (hopefully correct this time) the score is 18.5 .

You aren't the one who is in weekend mode, I am. Sorry

    Nothing to see here

I may have misunderstood something, but in my head the scoring makes no sense: A 100t plane with a top speed of 50m/s will have a score of -25. A 5t plane with a top speed of 500m/s will have a score of 245. Therefore the heavy plane will win by a lot. Please tell me if I am wrong.
  18. Big thanks to @Cunjo Carl for bringing this challenge up to date! Amelia Earhart was an American pilot who tried to fly around the world in her Lockheed Model 10 Electra-plane. Unfortunately, she crashed her plane, and was never found. The Earhart Challenge is following in her footsteps (without the crashing hopefully though). The challenge primarily takes place on Laythe, one of the five moons of Jool, and the only other planet than Kerbin with an atmosphere containing oxygen. This brings the opportunity to use jet engines. The challenge is an opportunity to get a look around on Laythe. You have 10 islands, one of them harder to get to plant a flag on than the other. When you visit an island you must plant a flag to points. The challenge has two modes, "Realistic mode" where you must launch from Kerbin get too Laythe and get back to orbit to finish your challenge. My recommended crafts here are: a big tug to bring you out there, a plane to fly around and plant the flags and a lander that you use to get back into orbit after finishing And "Casual mode" where you can use Hyperedit to get to a specific position on Laythe and then fly from there if you don't feel like doing the whole interplanetary travel. My recommended craft for casual mode is a plane so you can get around on Laythe and plant all the flags. How to use Hyperedit in the spoiler and download link below: Get it here Rules: You should plant a flag at every island you want points for. But if you want points for island number 7, you must visit and plant a flag on 6, 5, 4... It doesn't matter in what order you visit them, as long as you visit everything up till the number you finish on. You can use two (realistic) or one (casual) launches to make the ship. Eg. one launch for a rocket to push you out there, and one launch for a plane. The mods allowed are: Mechjeb KER Mk IV Spaceplane Systems (only the fuselage parts and the docking ports, so no engines, intakes, structural parts or RCS) You can also use mods that don't bring an advantage like Remote Tech or TAC... Hyperedit (Casual mode only of course) Partclipping is not allowed and no debug menu. (you can clip engines, liquid fuel tanks, and intakes into wings tho') You are allowed to use ISRU to refuel your craft. Your craft must carry at least four kerbals. You can not lose anyone on the way, and if you choose to land back at kerbin you should also land them all. Point system: Island points: The islands are in the hidden "box" further below with pictures. This here is only the names of the islands and the number of points they each assure you by planting a flag on them. The easy one: 100p The where to land?: 200p The slightly harder one: 300p The Australia: 400p The Chinese dragon-ish one: 500p The bumpy runway: 600p The New Zealand: 700p The high(run)way: 800p The tiny one: 900p The you can't see it without zooming one: 1000p +425p for an actual landing at the island Bonus points: 500p for using a boat to reach all the islands. (no flying, no driving, only sailing) 300p for only using two Juno engines and two small intakes to power yourself on Laythe. 100p for using a seaplane. This means that your plane can't have any landing gear, except if it is an SSTO. If you plan to leave Kerbin on landing gear, you must decouple your landing gear before entering Laythe's atmosphere. This also means that you will either have to swim to land with a kerbal or bring a small boat. 700p for using one SSTO for everything. (Realistic mode only) 600p for returning all kerbals back to Kerbin. (Realistic mode only) Multipliers and dividers: This is to get more difference and better competition between the people trying. p=price fs=final score s=score (all your points added together) P=parts Realistic mode: Your score minus the square root of the price of your craft(s) combined: s-√p=fs Let's say I' got a score of 3500 and one of my ships cost 200,000, while the other one costs 500,000 my equation would be: 3500-√700,000=2663.34 Casual mode: You shall minus your score with the number of parts times 2.5: s-P*2.5=fs Lets say I have a score of 600 after visiting the first three islands and my craft uses 58 parts this means my equation would look like this: 600-58*2.5=455 Images: The images are helping me to see if you have done what you needed to do. And a classic rule on the forum is "No pics, no clicks", so if you want just a little applause, you will help yourself by inserting pictures. Realistic mode: You must have a picture of your craft(s) at the launchpad or runway before launching them. You must have a picture of your craft(s) going up through the atmosphere. You must have a picture of your craft trajectory out to Jool. You must have a picture of your craft on the island or next to it before you plant a flag. You must have a picture of a kerbal standing next to the flag. A picture of you in orbit around Laythe after you've planted all the flags you want. You must have a picture of your kerbals standing back at kerbin (if you chose to go back) Casual mode: You must have a picture of your craft at the launchpad or runway before Hypereditting them. You must have an image of the place you land after Hypereditting. You must have a picture of your craft on the island or next to it before you plant a flag. You must have a picture of a kerbal standing next to the flag. The islands you can land on to get points: Somewhere at every island, there is a "flag" like this to help you with guidance while flying. (except for "The tiny one". Here the flag is on a northern island, so it won't disturb your landings) Savefile here Just create a folder and place the "persistent. sfs " file inside. Place the folder in your saves folder, start the game and fly! ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Leaderboards: There will be two leaderboards, one for all the people who are used to doing interplanetary travels and know how everything works. And one for all the people who might just have reached Minmus, or maybe even Duna. If you are one of the people who can do this with your hands tied on your back (or not), you can get on the "Realistic mode" leaderboard. If you just wanna try and see how everything will work out, you can get on the "Casual mode" leaderboard. Realistic mode: The King: 2. 3. 4. 5. Casual mode: The Lord: 2. 3. 4. 5.

KSP Challenge: Build and Fly a Space Shuttle!

Made this for tourist contracts: It takes up two passengers and has the ability to dock to a station. As you can see it has plenty of Dv, and if you use FMRS you can also recover the booster.

    Atmosphere deployment

You can also use this mod (i think it still works): It brings new parts to the game, one of them is a timer. You set the timer to start at the same stage as the decoupler, and then let the timer use an actiongroup to deploy the parachutes after 5 or so seconds.

What did you do in KSP today?

Today the Minmus Portable Lab came down from the highlands to deploy a set of science equipment on the slopes, and later on on the great flats. I also launched my first ever probe towards Moho. After it has collected some science and transmitted it back to Kerbin, it will work as scanning and communication help for future missions. I tried to land to rocket at the KSC, but as it often goes, it landed in the middle of the ocean several thousand kilometers away. The last picture in there is my Duna station that made its final correction burn just after the Moho Pioneer had burned towards Moho.

    Boeing 747

Here is my kerbal version of the famous Boeing 747. I have made it for the Airliner safety challenge. To my surprise, it was relatively easy to fly, but kinda hard to land. When you come in for landing you will have to keep your vertical speed very low, and then make sure you touch down on the rear wheels first. It can land on The Old Airstrip, but it's very hard due to the fact that the big wheels don't have any steering, thus often leading to the plane driving down the steep slopes on the sides. If you loose three engines in your flight, you're a pretty bad pilot, but the plane can still fly with only one engine still running. But if it works best if it's one of the to engines closest to the fuselage, as it will otherwise turn slightly. Kerbal capacity: 144 passengers and 4 crew members Wingspan: 47.35m Length: 46.24m Height: 12.46m Engines: 4 J-90 Goliath Turbofan Engines Max speed: 250-350 m/s Service-range: I have no idea, but it has 69,000m/s ΔV, so I guess it will fly quite a long way. Part count: 66 Mods: Opt (Only for the tail fin) Stock extension (Adds big wings, so it cuts part count down quite a lot) Cost: 366,000 Weight: 170.000 kg wet If you want to try it for yourself!

    Boeing 747

I actually did something similar once. I was building a Kantonov (it doesn't look much like the real one tho), and then I got an idea to attach a Russian MAKS shuttle to it. The one most people know is the MAKS OS, but the one built was the MAKS M. It has fuel and everything inside it, thus making it 100% reusable. So I could launch the plane with the MAKS M on top, release the MAKS M at around 9km height, then fly it to orbit. Now I could fly the Kantonov back to the runway. Only funds spent there would be the separator, fuel and payload.
  24. Oops, meant kerbals as a whole

What did you do in KSP today?

Yesterday I launched my Mun station as I had a contract on testing the kickback booster, and this gave me enough power to lift it away from Kerbin. Now i just need to send a lander up there so I can get from all Muns biomes, and not just midland craters. When it then came to actually testing the booster I made I first plane in this career save, I was so amazed that it worked only after the second launch. I even landed it very short from the KSC, but it has no controllable wheels, and a very long braking time, so it drove for some time. Today Gergard got to Minmus and collected a lot of science. This enabled me to research docking ports and RCS, so now I have the needed things to send my Mun lander up to my station. More pictures in the spoiler: I assume that it's Planetshine that's giving your plane that red tint @astroheiko . If that's the case, what your settings? Cause even though my ships above Minmus and Duna look beautiful, I get nowhere near this effect.
