  1. As a general guideline, a satellite will contact KSC if its antenna is able to connect to it, even with minimum signal. Otherwise, it'll try to connect through closest (and reachable) relay. Some of the other advice: -stronger antenna should be placed on orbit, weaker antenna is placed on surface -change your vessel type as "relay" for all your satellite -set commnet view as "network" (click the icon on the upper left in map view)
  2. Duna is a good transit point for any mission heading beyond it. For ISRU, I suggest you did a surface one instead on orbit, since a full tank of ore that you get is producing less than a tank of fuel, for a sake of convenience, have it refined on surface to fill a tank before transporting it to orbit. For location, it's up to you, having duna as the location means you can easily have a vessel set an orbit for orbital refueling, however, duna have attmosphere and it's gravity is higher than Ike, so your refuel vessel had to deal with it. Ike, however, have a lower gravity and no atmosphere, which makes it easier for your refuel craft reaching orbit at the cost of having you to do additional burn for target vessel to set orbit around Ike. There are advantages and disadvantages on each location, pick what you deemed best for your preference If you don't mind installing another mod, then the gold standard mod is a good mod to encourage you to explore dres and beyond (it spawns 2 additional resources: gold and unobtainium, both can be sold for large amount of cash) I've just returned from mining unobtainium, having filled 4 medium tanks of it, and I got 18 million (my craft cost 250k). It's a good addition to have more to do at distant worlds other than exploring
  3. As an AI, I'm just sitting and admiring it from my orbital WMD satellite~
  4. About 5 minutes. Either I watch some anime, hug my cat, browse the internet, or just sleep (ksp menu music will wake me up)
  5. Agreed. The combo of Whiplashes and nuke engine is your go-to parts if you're looking for maximum DV
  6. I've just returned from eve, mining unobtanium there. 4 medium tanks returned (18 million in value, my ship costs about 250k). But man... the unobtanium is so heavy, it makes my ship tumbles every minute when I'm leaving eve, so much that I had to manually steer the dang thing since drone auto SAS seems to be insufficient to keep it pointed upwards. And it got worse on return, where the ship now pointed on where it shouldn't be when it's burning on atmosphere. Overall, losing 2 out of 3 solar panels, all landing legs destroyed (2 on eve, 1 on kerbin), all drills destroyed on reentry, But the content survived. I'd call that "mission complete" (and btw, I did it unmanned, using drone)
  7. @Cunjo Carl, you have a really cunning thought to guess it! It is indeed a Rail gun. I am designing a Rail gun for my thesis, and my teacher said I had to calculate the parameters of it's bullet's trajectory and comparing it with non-accelerated bullet (my railgun uses 2-stage acceleration, first by using propellant, then using lorentz force from rails inside the barrel, with the bullet acting as a switch). When my teacher said I had to calculate about that, I thought: "Hmm... okay, let's try this". Then I'm stuck when I had to figure out about the projectile being accelerated mid-flight since all I know is how to calculate the projectile from motionless state to being accelerated once (I had a problem to figuring out how to find the velocity if it's accelerated while it's already moving). Anyway, thanks for all of you! Now I can finally continue my work! Here's my design:
  8. About these assumptions, all of the above is correct Thanks mate! You really help me in this case! I've been trying to solve this problem for 3 days, and now you saved my life! I'm sorry, this is my first time asking something like this on the forum. I'm working on this assignment for 3 days and I got stuck. It's easy for me to figure out the secondary question of point B and C (maximum range and alternated projectile mass without being accelerated) but I got stuck when I had to figure out about the projectile being accelerated mid-flight since all I know is how to calculate the projectile from motionless state to being accelerated once (I had a problem to figuring out how to find the velocity if it's accelerated while it's already moving) anyway, thanks for your advice! (also, nice trivia, I only realized it now)
  9. Okay guys, I need a help to solve this problem. I'm given this in my school: "A projectile with a mass of 100 gram is being fired at horizontal trajectory, 20 centimeters above the ground with a speed of 900m/s. As the projectile travels 1 meter from firing point, a force of 0.298 N is being applied to the projectile to accelerate it. Assuming there's no wind resistance, calculate: 1. The speed of the projectile after it's being accelerated 2. The range at which the projectile hit the ground (like an actual bullet, it's affected by gravity at long range), compare it after being accelerated with as if it isn't accelerated 3. If the projectile is being changed with the one with a mass of 30 gram, what's the speed after it's being accelerated and it's maximum range?" I've been spending 3 days to think this through and tried to solve it and I cannot find an answer for this problem T T. So if anyone have a solution/ formula/ answer for this, I'm really appreciate it And thanks for helping
  10. Operating my heavy exploration rover (100% stock) "Crawler" And because I got bored, I'm just strapping together some GN Drives and send it to escape trajectory just to burn some money
  11. Performing circularization burn at bop, switching to map view, craft goes behind the bop, tried to rotate the camera in map view to see the craft, heard some "puff" (oh crap) then suddenly I heard an explosion. Before I'm able to switch back to vessel view, a flight log appears and told me that my craft has collided with bop
  12. I have conburry kerman who test fly 174-seat passenger jet when the big 4 is on the mun. Conburry seems to never lose his cool when flying a huge aircraft that's barely able to turn. His excitement in flight might turns into a horrified looks when something goes wrong though
  13. https://kerbalx.com/ARS/Archangel As a note: it's equipped with modded engine from GN drive mod to allow interplanetary travel. Without it, it only function as a LKO SSTO Full mod: OPT spaceplane, OPT legacy, Airplane plus, Mk3 expansion, Mk2 expansion,SXT, GN drive (download from spacedock) P.S: when ascending to kerbin upper atmosphere, don't pitch too hard Happy flying
  14. Okay then, I'll upload my craft to kerbalx.com as a note, mods that I'm using for archangel: OPT space plane OPT space plane legacy mk2 parts expansion mk3 parts expansion
  15. Some advice and help about building and flying helicopter in KSP that I've given to @jackstech in the past. Hope this helps:
  16. I suggest you watch this: And this: The usual method to remedy this is simply strut the rocket Hope that helps
  17. I'm able to do limited timewarp with current wheels. All I had to do is: -make sure my rover is wide enough -make sure the center of mass is as low as possible -attach a lot of reaction wheels and set it to SAS only -set wheel's spring strength to minimum and damper strength to maximum -press W to drive away normally until sufficient speed is reached, and release the button (let it move by it's own momentum) before activating timewarp - If the speed gets lower, deactivate timewarp, move again normally to gain some velocity, then repeat the step before Hope that helps
  18. If I can, I want to give you advice that you should mention the parts/weight limits for this kind of challenge. Not to argue about your parameters, but without mentioning the extent of how far the limit of one can build their "jetpack", they could just strap mk3 tank with jet engines and circumventing kerbin all day. If your main scoring system is based from flight time, then players can simply build a gigantic-oversized tanks with jet engines and command seat (to be technically called (oversized) jetpack. I can simply grab one of my jumbo jet, turn it vertically, give it landing legs (you didn't mention that. I suggest you do) and I can go airborne all day) and this kind of challenge would quickly devolve into who's able to stay airborne longer than others since eventually, the score of being able to stay 8 minutes longer would make the score obtained exceed the extra score, making it somewhat pointless. My advice is: - give the scoring based from: least part count, longest distance, and least weight - add a bonus score for not using parachute, landing legs and airbrakes - give a limit for maximum size/ weight/ partcount - give a bigger score for optional challenge Hope that helps
  19. KSP is a singleplayer-wide open sandbox game with a lot of possibilities. There are many kinds of players, some of which plays the game following it's premise (rocket science) or doing something entirely unleated with it (messing around with physics) Now I have played this game for about 2 years, and I'm still playing it. I wonder what makes player keep playing KSP for such a long time. Was it to learn and understand about rocketry? To explore and getting biome from all the planets? Making an ever-growing and developing space program? Building the next absurd contraptions? Personal ambition such as "building eve SSTO"? There are many possibilities for people to keep playing KSP For me, my personal reason to keep playing KSP is that I love to build stuff. For me, KSP is like LEGO with rocket parts (and science) where I'm able to build stuff however I like, with the only limitation is my own imagination. I can build cool planes, rockets, or even something entirely unrelated with space program, and I love that That's my reason. What about you? What's your reason to keep playing KSP for a long time?
  20. Nah, even a real shuttle flies poorly anyway, it cannot fly under it's own engine like an aircraft. It's basically performing "controlled gliding to runway" after the reentry. There's a reason it's called flying brickyard
