  1. Quick question, for the range calculations, are we meant to use fuel weight or fuel units? When I use fuel units I get an incredibly short range which I know is incorrect having flown a further distance than it gives me?
  2. Hello! It's been almost a year since I've been here. I will be redoing all the challenges, so please ignore any submissions I have made in the past. I look foward to doing this challenge again, and hopefully all the way through.
  3. I'm talking to myself because I have no friends Nah in all seriousness nobody comes to this thread, its more or less just a personal archive of missions.
  4. Not sure if you still need help, but I have a Corsair Schimitar and it has 12 buttons, could be good for what you need.
  5. I was searching around the forums and found that you can force KSP to run on DX11 rather than DX9. Does this produce any better performance? Or does it just produce graphical glitches and almost no performance increase?
  6. Breathing new life into old technology! The Kerbal X was the first rocket I got into orbit in KSP. Now with over 500 hours in the game it only felt right to revisit it and upgrade it. The old spacecraft had 6662 m/s of Δ/v, the new one has 7380 m/s! That's an increase of over 700 m/s without adding any extra fuel tanks! Here's a list of changes: Engines on the side boosters were changed from Swivels to Aerospikes Main engine changed from a Mainsail to a Vector Lander engine changed from a Poodle to a Terrier Landing legs changed from the LT-2 to the LT-1's Removed the overly sized batteries and small solar panels. Replaced with two 1x6 retractable solar panels. The rocket is still very stable and easy to fly, although the vector has had its gimbal limit set to 20.
  7. Made a modified Kerbal X. It was the first rocket I ever got into orbit, and it was in dire need of some upgrades. I've only done weight savings, changed a few parts and changed out all of the engines. I haven't changed the fuel tanks, and got an increase in d/v of just over 700 m/s!
  8. For STS-4 and STS-5-8 I'm going to be using replicas of the Buran, and the American space shuttle. Just got finished making my American space shuttle and it flies suprisingly well, although it is quite unstable below 20KM after re-entry as it always wants to put you into a flatspin. But regardless, here's a test mission with an orange tank test payload:
  9. The first step in re-usable tech! I've never been a person to go for re-usability in KSP, as I almost exclusively play sandbox mode, and multiple stage rockets are an absolute pain to land and try to re-use in KSP. But regardless, I tried to make a fully reusable launcher, that put a fully reusable lander/capsule into LKO. The only thing that wasn't re-used was the interstage fairing between the launcher and lander/capsule. Here's the full rocket: Launcher re-entry and landing. Had 2m/s left after landing after putting the capsule/lander into LKO. The lander/capsule is fully propulsively landed, the parachutes are if the capsule is coming back to Kerbin from the Mun or Minmus and it has no fuel left from the landings there. I mainly made it to be based at a space station, and be pushed around by a transfer stage based at the station. All the fuel tanks are radially mounted 0.625m tanks on the hitchhiker container which is in the fairing. The lander/capsule can house 7 kerbals.

  11. I personally use bandicam. Before I had a licence I just cropped out the watermark from the trial version in editing. Works like a charm.
  12. I apologise for the bad audio in advance, was messing with different stuff and it didn't go too well. But here's my STS-3 submission, including the main mission and repair mission.
  13. You could upgrade your RAM in your desktop, it's one of the easiest things to replace. If you tell me exactly what processor you have (not just i5 or i7, but the exact model, for example "I5-4460") I can figure out what RAM you could get and recommend you some.
  14. Your RAM will be causing quite an issue, I struggled for space with large ships while recording with 8GB, so that's likely what's hindering you. KSP is also a very CPU dependant game, so if you don't have a decent CPU you won't get very far.
  15. Well, the repair mission did go successfully, although certainly not to plan. Lets just say I really need to test my craft before I fly them.
  16. Alright then, that's what I'll do! I'll make a new smaller mk.2 shuttle for it, it'd be silly to send up my huge shuttle to replace one solar panel.
  17. Alright, so I've done STS-3, although due to my janky MMU and solar panel design, I managed to break one of the solar panels and I didn't have a quicksave, that means only one of the solar panels are on the telescope. I've recorded it and I did dock both of them with two separate kerbals/MMU's, so would my entry still count?
  18. I personally use them for all of my communication sattelites, especially for ones that require high accuracy, their low thrust helps with that. It's also good for small command chair ships.
  19. Sorry for the delayed response, here are the dropbox "previews" (it shows the whole file) for the two files. KSP.log: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ofn440vpld0ecje/KSP.log?dl=0 output_log.txt: https://www.dropbox.com/s/jukympht94qvx9s/output_log.txt?dl=0
  20. I've run into an issue with this mod. There is no rhyme or reason to what parts disappear each time, but everytime something on my space shuttle explodes, random parts of it will turn invisible, then spit out the error shown in the screenshot maybe twice every second. I know it's this mod, because when I removed it, it no longer happened. I'm using kostik's fix, so I don't know if it's something to do with that, or something that's been changed code wise since 1.3 (I'm using 1.6.1).
  21. The "Passenger SSTO Prototype" Testing Trials Well, after designing a new SSTO, obviously it calls for some testing, and that's exactly what I did. The first test was a simply orbital test which went swell. After that, I took it one step further and headed to the Mun, which also went swimmingly, although I realised some overheating issues on re-entry with the MK.1 cockpit, which were mitigated in the next revision of the SSTO. After this mission, many design changes were made. Batteries were removed along with the reaction wheels, the cockpit was changed and the amount of oxidizer lowered. Obviously though, I didn't give this any prior testing before heading all the way out to Duna, which ultimately led to about 100 quickloads before managing to crash land without killing everybody. I also sent all but one of my kerbals on this mission, so Valentina was the only one left. With pretty much all of my kerbals stranded on the surface of Duna, I needed to go rescue them. So I picked up a sidekick for Valentina and headed off to Duna to get them back. After that, I've now regained my fear of SSTO's, so I doubt there will be anymore SSTO flights for the Welsh Space Program for a while. Duna rover "Uno" Pretty much the first thing I did in my new 1.6 save was send a rover to Duna. A pretty bad idea considering I had no communication satellites at the time, but I was quite proud of it. Sputnik 1 Replica I wanted to do something simple, so I decided to recreate the launch of the first satellite ever in space, the Sputnik. I put it into the approximate orbit of it's real life counterpart on a rough replica of the "R7" The thin stage proved difficult though...
  22. I'll be adding mission reports over time here, mostly my new ones, and the thread should be in chronological order. This is pretty much going to be my logbook. All my "Challenge" mission reports can be found by clicking the badges in my signature.
