Well just to a sidenote to the Soyuz the Soyuz goes radial (radial on the Nav ball if this were KSP) and then separates, im assuming the dragon does something similar and jettisons the Trunk while the capsule or the Trunk is facing earth rather than Retro or Prograde positions here it comes....
