  1. My current plan for the wings is to use B9 part switch to switch the wings between node attach and surface attach. The wings mirror fine when surface attaching, however I still can not get them to mirror when node attaching. As you can see in the gif, I have a dedicated part for the wings to mirror across. The part has nodes on each side and stack symmetry = 1. I have tried with the nodes facing out from the sides, and with the nodes both pointing towards the back, without success. If anyone wants to take a look, I put all the files needed for the wing and the dedicated wing mount in a separate project on github. (B9 will have to be downloaded separately) The wing is new and will be in the next update. https://github.com/StarlordKerman/SweptWing Although the wings don't mirror, it is possible to get a right and left wing by using 'e' or 'q' to switch orientations.
  2. I'm trying to get the stack attach to work in order to mirror the original wings, does anyone know if this is possible? I have gotten the wings to mirror on a node in radial attach mode, but am unable to mirror them on a node in symmetrical mode which is really what I need to do.
  3. So getting something attached to a node to mirror? That could solve a lot of problems that I have run into. I assumed it was impossible, but I will look into it as well.
  4. So, I have gotten the wings to mirror correctly, but I'm not sure how to best implement this in the mod. I'm planning on adding B9partswitch functionality to some of the existing parts and some new parts with the next update, so I was considering using this for the wings as well. However, it looks like the lift deflection coefficient can't be changed for different part variants using b9. My original plan was to give all the wings 2 types, one that would be the full set (left and right) like the wings currently are in this mod, then another variant of the same part (using b9) to make just a surface attachable left wing that can be mirrored. But since I can't change the lift deflection coefficient that plan isn't going to work out. The best alternative I've thought of is to have 3 variants for each wing, a surface attachable mirror-able variant, then a left and a right node attach variant. The main problem with this would be that parts attached to the node-attached wings (think landing gear) would no longer mirror, so I'm not sure this would be an improvement overall. If you have any thoughts on this feel free to share.
  5. Thanks for the help, I just got it to mirror: I'm not sure what finally got it to work and what is extra but here's the important part of the .cfg name = PSCurvedWing module = Part author = NYoung rescaleFactor = 1 node_attach = -1.7, 0.0, 0.8, 1.0, 0.0, 0.0, 3 mirrorRefAxis = 0,0,1 node_stack_bottom02 = -5.027493, -2.76, -0.165882, 0.0, -1.0, 0.0, 1
  6. I am trying to mirror surface attaching wings, however, when I mirror them the mirrored wing ends up being upside down or faces backwards. I notice all the stock wings are symmetrical such that there is no top and bottom, maybe for this reason. However, there are parts that mirror how I am hoping for the wings to mirror, the best example being landing gear. It seems that the mirror function in most cases besides this landing gear, just places the original part in a different orientation on the opposite side, but in this case it seems to generate a mirrored version of the original part. Does anyone know how to use the mirror function in this way? thanks in advance
  7. I'm wondering, can the deflectionLiftCoeff be changed for different part variants using B9PartSwitch? I don't see it mentioned anywhere but I thought I'd ask.
  8. I wouldn't say worse, after all my Flat-Bottom shuttle parts can even hold some 2.5m payloads which can't quite squeeze into the Mk2.5 Spaceplane Parts While playing around I have launched some payloads with the doors open. I assume for this challenge the payload needs to be fully contained though.
  9. To determine the mass of the parts and the fuel volumes I used this thread. 85% of the total volume is fuel, and the mass of the part is 1/8th the mass of the fuel. The triangular cross-section volume is much more than a cylindrical 2.5m cross-section so it makes sense the parts would weigh more (and hold more fuel), somewhere between a 2.5m cylinder and an mk3 part. There is though some variation to this rule for the crew holding parts, wings, and docking modules as the mass for such parts would be higher than that determined from their fuel capacity, and so there were some design decisions that had to be made. Is there a specific part I should check the mass on? I can't say I've ever played with those mods. I could take a look at compatibility, but no guarantees. I'm currently working on wing attachment method stuff. That's not a problem I've experienced, but I am taking a look at new wing attachment methods to try to incorporate mirroring and stuff. Hopefully this will be fixed in the next update
  10. I noticed a mistake in the last update. The lift deflection coefficient of the "TriShuttleFlapsLeft" part was left as 4 instead of 2. It should have been turned down to 2 when I split up the flaps (and the rest were). I'll re-upload the mod to spacedock again soon, but for now you can just go into the .cfg file and adjust the coefficient.
  11. I'm not sure when you'd need a bigger crew cabin, it currently holds 8. Space tourism perhaps?
  12. I'd be interested to see someone attempt this using the mod I've been working on: Maybe I'll give it a try myself if I can find the time
  13. Is there a mod you had in mind? Besides maybe adding some adapters for other cross-sections the only other mod compatibility I was considering is to make the wings work with tweakscale, but that would be after I rework the wing attachment method.
  14. Updated! Changes: Added IVAs to the K-1 Classic Command Module and the Crew Module K-1 Classic now also includes a built-in docking port, EVA hatch, and a re-texture Depth Masks added for: TriAero TriAero Short K-1 Classic Crew Module (which now holds 8 crew) All command modules are manned Updated the color variation names, now White, Black, and Red Tuned masses and fuel volumes for all parts to be better balanced with stock parts The Shuttle Wing flaps are now 4 parts instead of 2 New Parts: Docking Module compatible with Clamp-o-tron Docking Module compatible with Clamp-o-tron Sr IVA Depth Masks Docking Modules: Shuttle Flaps, now 4 parts for better control K-1 Classic IVA Comments and critiques about this update are welcome, as are suggestions for future parts and changes
  15. the only crew carrying sections which do not have a hatch are the crew section and the K-1 Classic command pod. The rest all do.
  16. Whats a good place to put my .version online? Do I pretty much have to set up a Github?
  17. Here's a preview of the docking modules. The one pictured deploys from the bottom and is clamp-o-tron compatible. I've also made one that deploys from the top and is clamp-o-tron Sr compatible. These will be added in the next update
  18. Yeah, I could use some help adding a .version file. I'm not entirely sure what it is, I've just been learning all this modding stuff as I go
  19. Thanks for pointing that out. After it didn't mirror correctly the first time I didn't give it much more thought but I guess I'll have to take another look at it.
  20. So it is purely by volume? In than case I'll just measure the volume in Solidworks And dry mass is about 1/8 of fuel mass right? I think I have my parts pretty balanced as it is but they could use some fine-tuning. From reading through the Shuttle Challenge v5 thread and others, it seems like your Mk2.5 Space Plane parts are very well balanced with the stock parts, so thanks for the help.
  21. I actually downloaded that one (many thanks to you for keeping it updated) to use as a reference when I was doing the .cfg for some of my parts. It's a nice looking mod. Idk if it was you or RaginCaucasian who did it, but I am wondering how the fuel capacity for the non-cylindrical cross-section was balanced?
  22. NEW PARTS! I've updated the mod to include a shroud on the "TriTail" engine mount, a decoupler to fit the cross-section, and an adapter to allow the parts to stack with a 2.5m circular cross-section. This, of course, allows for stacking the shuttles vertically I was thinking of adding a docking-port section, something clamp-o-tron compatible. I'd have to learn how to make one first though
  23. At this point the size of the parts is pretty much set, and also I rather prefer smaller space-planes. Perhaps Tweakscale the parts you're trying to carry slightly? I was also considering making a piece to adapt existing 2.5m to my cross-section (separate from the adapter I mention above). Something like: I'm hesitant to make such a part though due to the zero-thickness geometry at the bottom, but I guess it could be used to transport stuff externally? maybe? Thanks for the feedback though
