  1. This issue was mentioned in the latest KSP Weekly, quote provided below for convenience. The KSP Weekly post in question:
  2. I'd say the terrain seems are the big thing here, certainly all I was wanting from this update But changes have been made to the shadows and in turn the lighting and sun (these changes were not well documented in the patch notes) please see the Dev post linked below: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/developerarticles.html/enter-the-shadows-r205/ So if your not bothered by the terrain seems, the shadows or the new languages, you don't need to rush to 1.3, that said if your running unmodded I believe saves will carry over to 1.3 but not backwards
  3. Suppose I should drop my support in here since my latest post history Nice to know I'm not the only one a bit disappointed by this change and the developmental philosophies behind it I agree with this however, I doubt it would be reverted or changed before the unity update
  4. NMI Please provide more information including Operating system, what you were doing at the time, frequency of crashes etc. Additionally a list of mods installed would be handy. Thanks
  5. This is not a KSP issue, it is a windows configuration issue. This is simply because you are not logged on to the machine as an administrator and the administrator has enforced account permissions, your account therefore does not have permission to make file changes such as removing/deleting programs and/or files, the administrator of the machine can give you permission temporarily by clicking continue and then entering there credentials or permanently through account settings at there discretion.
  6. You appear to be using mods, please try removing the mods and see if the issue persists, if it does please reply. If it does not, I would suggest you add the mods one at a time to find the offending mod (probably something just not updated to 1.3) and post in the modded installs subforum. Hope this helps
  7. So the sound stutter is a known Unity bug which has not been solved as of yet, it effects different systems to differing degrees, I don't get it bad and am using Realtek if that helps, in addition KSP does occasionally stutter sound (due to the garbage cleanup if I recall the old dev posts) but its largely been removed or reduced in recent versions. As for the coil whine, an FPS limiter should fix that, you can get it in KSP pretty bad during loading screens but shouldn't get it too bad whilst in game, if you turn on an FPS overlay, you will probably notice the FPS spike at the same time as the coil whine, the whine will be worse the higher your FPS goes. Cap the FPS to 30, 60 or 120 depending on your hardware and this should solve it. Hope this helps.
  8. I understand this, it is a situation where you can not please all people, which is why i felt it was important to post that I personally value the smooth sun transition over shadows as I consider it a more important contributor to the game. But I am aware that is MY opinion and it's not shared by all. You did however dedicate resources to making this compromise, which to me implies that you consider shadows over smooth sun transition to be more beneficial to the game, as a result I felt my opinion on this issue (being seemingly opposite to yours) is valuable feedback. Thanks for taking the time to respond, and again for the original post.
  9. Can't help but disagree with this assessment, Changing the way the sun moves (an important orbital transition) to fix a shadow issue (a relatively unimportant issue) seems like an odd compromise in this game about orbital mechanics, especially since the benefit is only really noticeable on Kerbin and less so in space, having the shadows move incrementally seems worse to me than lower quality smooth transitions since they tend to draw attention as they move, I can't really say I've ever noticed the shadows to be all that bad previously. Personally I would prefer smooth sunsets and sunrises, watching the Mun eclipse over kerbin, etc to better shadow fidelity, after all I tend to be looking up in this game more than looking down. That said, I appreciate the work you have put into these issues and this post of course, so thanks
  10. Not a problem with the Mods or the Refueling Op you are running. Changes were made to the Dynamic movement of the Kerbol star in 1.3 it is now meant to be choppy to fix some shadow issues, please see the below link and the associated bug tracker ID 15298 (pre-release) http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/161388-suns-dynamic-lighting-issue-in-space-center/ Edit: A dev post has been written regarding the lighting/shadows change here: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/developerarticles.html/enter-the-shadows-r205/
  11. Intended feature unfortunately, not specific to modded installs, implemented in 1.3. A change to the Suns Dynamics to fix a shadow issue, please see the post linked below and the associated bug tracker ID 15298 in the pre-release bug tracker. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/161388-suns-dynamic-lighting-issue-in-space-center/ Edit: A dev post has been written regarding the lighting/shadows change here: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/developerarticles.html/enter-the-shadows-r205/
  12. According to the above post, it seems this is an intentional change, though in my opinion a bad one, the transition of the sun is way worse than flickering shadows were since the shadows now update incrementally and the lighting globally is now noticeably worse, but I suppose this closes this topic, and I'm only a little annoyed that this was changed and not well documented in the patch notes since that would have saved me my troubleshooting time Mods can close/delete or whatever this thread, I'll likely not monitor it further (Edit: this post is now linked to by other similar issue posts, please do not remove) Thanks Edit: A dev post has been written regarding these changes: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/developerarticles.html/enter-the-shadows-r205/
  13. So the titles a little odd because, for the life of me I can't really decide how to describe this issue. The problem: After the 1.3 update the transition of the sun across the sky is jerky (but not at regular intervals) this is easily noticed on 4x speed warp whilst viewing the Space Center with the sun in view but is present all the time. This is obviously extremely ugly and gives the light and shadows cast by the sun at different times of the day a very noticeable intermittent change that Is very distracting. I will forego the usual posting of specs and my 6 hours worth of troubleshooting I did last night, because today i tried three different systems of wildly varying specs and it existed on all three from the minute a new game is started, however I can find no reference to this issue being reported on these forums or during the pre-release testing. if requested by Squad I will post additional information and or a video of the problem (system specs, etc) but id really rather not spend too much time on this as KSP is nearing the end of its life for me (800 hours) and id rather not remember my last few hours of it trying to fix silly problems and would rather just move on to another game, so this post is more of an FYI post. Please do let me know if this has been deliberately put into the game for some reason and I just missed it, I only skim the release notes. Additionally: I reverted to 1.2 and the problem is not present No mods are of have even been installed on this system one of the computers i tried was a blank slate troubleshooting machine (still present) I thought this might be a deliberate change by Squad to combat some of the shadow issues, but if this is the case please revert as I'd rather have flickery shadows than broken lighting to be honest. Thanks for reading. TLDR: Load up KSP 1.3, start new game, in space center view look at sun, time warp x4. notice anything? If yes, post here
