Got things running with some help from the steam community, thought to post the cause here just in case someone else runs into. In my instance, it was the audio output device drivers not working, amd's drivers don't appear to be functioning to well on my machine so didn't work with ksp.

Hi all, Was wondering if someone could make sense of this, game working fine this morning. Did try and turn on amd's over clocking, launched the game, got this. that feature has been turned back off but no joy, tried a fresh install too.
