This might be kinda off topic, but I find that some of the kids that play KSP immediately start thinking that they're the smartest and biggest experts on space and orbital mechanics and brag to their friends about it (myself included :P).

    Lol, that's so relatable

  2. I know this is old, but there's a better mod called Advanced Rocketry.

Indeed, one of the must have mods. It almost has zero interference with people who still want to play stock on the server as it doesn't change the rules and they only see few extra ores.

But if they want, they can work hard and reach all kinds of new worlds.

Or just make a space station and fill it with chickens flapping in mid air.

There's a better mod than galacticraft now. https://minecraft.curseforge.com/projects/advanced-rocketry

Good. I can't even land on the Mun and Minimus in the same flight.

I'm not trying to flex or anything with that last comment, but this is the first GT SSTO that I made. I'm sure you're much, MUCH better at flying it, better at landing it, and could probably get to moho using it. Before this, the largest distance I went was to minmus and back.

I'm having trouble just making it a story! Last post was over 2 months ago. I'm working on another Intrepid chapter right now, and then I have a big trip coming up, but I'll do my best to make Ch. 15 a priority when I get back.

But I do agree, if done correctly this would make a pretty good movie, not to brag or anything.

You, My good Sir, Have extreme bragging rights

You shouldn't need to: the whole idea is to load a craft in a recent version and let KSP's own loading code resolve the issues. If the craft loads at all, all the parts will show up with their current counterparts. This may however have unexpected effects, like gaps between parts etc. That's the challenge.

Additionally, there are also stat differences: some parts will load with old numbers for tank volume, heat resistance, drag values. It should be interesting indeed.

    Thanks!

Thanks for your comprehensive video report of your SSTO mission to Minmus @mrhexed. Recovering from the reentry spin encurred by the exploding air brakes showed skillful piloting, nevertheless the explosion itself unfortunately broke K-Prize rules, see rule 1 about not losing parts since exploding parts are considered lost.

This qualifies the report for a gatecrasher link on the front page, on the list of gatecrashing infamy, plus quip and the right to display the gatecrasher logo. Which is quite a good deal.

However if you would prefer you also have the right to have the gatecrasher listing expunged (or kept, your call) if you complete a successful K-Prize mission. The choice is yours and I will hold off on listing the gatecrasher for a bit in case you decide you want to complete the mission. :)

ok, thanks for telling me! I'll get back to work on making an SSTO to orbit

When you have SAS set to stability for a plane, your nose will rise over time as you traverse the curve of the planet.

The drag that your plane experiences rises exponentially as your nose rises above prograde. For the first few degrees it isn't too bad. Once it goes above 5 degrees, you are experiencing a lot of extra drag. Once your nose is 10 degrees above prograde, the excess drag on your fuselage is immense -- and your nose is going way beyond 10 degrees in your video.

This is the main reason why rotating your wings so that they have positive incidence even when your plane's nose is locked to prograde is so useful.

    You're right!

Yes.  Not too much, though.  Too far back and you won't be able to fight the dive.

You also want to try to build your plane in a way that the fuel draining doesn't move the CoM too much.  You can manually empty the tanks in the SPH to see where it moves, but I believe there's a mod (Better CoM maybe?) that shows you empty and full at the same time.

Thank you! I'll try this immedieately
