  1. I made working Tron Lightcycles, both the Original and Legacy designs. They can take a little airtime and go 130mph. Craft Files: Original- https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2805121502 Legacy-https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2805121912 Welcome to the Grid: Tron Lightcycles (Kerbal Space Program/Craft Files https://youtu.be/FAAYCQMsw2o
  2. Behold the first wave: the Do 335, Ju 87, P-51D, P-38, and the I-16 Polikarpov. Craft Files: Do 335: https://kerbalx.com/GillyMonster/Dornier-Do-335-Pfeil P-51D Mustang: https://kerbalx.com/GillyMonster/P-51D-Mustang I-16 Polikarpov: https://kerbalx.com/GillyMonster/I-16-Polikarpov Ju 87 Stuka: https://kerbalx.com/GillyMonster/Ju-87-Stuka P-38 Lightning: https://kerbalx.com/GillyMonster/P-38-Lightning
  3. If you need help I made a I tutorial...very basic but it covers the necessary stuff to make a working Podracer:
  4. A basic Podracer with a building tutorial. Craft File: https://kerbalx.com/GillyMonster/Tutorial-Building-a-Star-Wars-Podracer
  5. Basically it’s simple: cover the outlined canyon in the mountains to the west of the kerbal space center in a manned repulsor type Podracer (repulsor pads via kerbal Foundries). Command pod can be fixed at the front with a maximum of two engine pods, OR at the back attached via flexible chains (I-beams, Infernal Robotics uncontrolled joints). Video Below to Demonstrate. Requirements: -Craft Max Weight 25 tons. Layout: -Fixed Forward control pod, limit two engine components (i.e. two panthers only). -Rear control pod with flexible chains, limit 4 engine components (i.e four panthers). (More are allowed for laughs but cannot compete). -Engines Can be any engine component, rocket or jet based. Rules -Can tweakscale any component EXCEPT the engines and control seat/cockpit. -For chained Podracers, I-beams limited to a minimum of 50% (1/2 scale) and a minimum of 4 links with uncontrolled pivotrons in between and uncontrolled rotatrons at both ends. -Cannot use infinite electricity OR fuel/ox. -Cannot use any lifting or control surfaces in a manner which allows true flight (controlled/limited pitch glide only). This means your craft has the ability to land from large jumps but cannot reliably fly. The control pod alone is allowed the use of true flight surfaces. A craft can use as many control and stabilizing surfaces as the user desires. So long as the above requirements are followed. Submit a reply with a pic of your start time and your end time as well as statistics of your run at the finish line (F3) and an up-close picture of picture of your craft in the space plane hangar with the statistics panel enabled (shows weight, length etc). Even better, submit a video containing the aforementioned information. Best Time Gets Bragging Rights. ALLOWED MODS -Take Command (Spawn Kerbal in control chair) -Vessel Mover (to get to the starting line) -Infernal Robotics -Kerbal Foundries -Tweakscale
  6. Finally finished! The BTX-320 Lotus, also Podracing Mount Keverest Craft File: https://kerbalx.com/GillyMonster/BTX-320-Lotus-Star-Wars-Podracer
  7. Speedbuild for current racer. Rework and fine tuning are not shown for sake of time.
  8. Just a quick update, I reduced the length and mass of the engine pods and gave the control pod a better set of airfoil surfaces to increase drag and stability. The lessened mass raised the top speed to 280m/s (630 mph). Another feature included are a couple of separately toggled control surfaces that give a little more control when airborne, and when both are toggled, generates downforce for more stability over rough ground. Even after including the above improvements I still wasn’t happy with the resulting maneuverability so I reattached the engines without mirror symmetry and set up their afterburners to separate action groups. The speed build video, craft file and demo videos should be up by Christmas.
  9. A couple days ago (before the mod took it down) I posted the above picture to reddit and asked you guys to pick which one I should build first. I got a few responses and everyone wanted the lower pod built, generally because of the cockpit I think. That said I got to work and so far this is what I’ve come up with. Given KSP has simplistic yet relatively effective physics, the average podracer simply isn’t aerodynamically (kerbodynamically?) stable. While I also have kerbal foundries for the repulsor field, it doesn’t work to stabilize a craft the way it does in Star Wars so I had to add a couple “strake-like” surfaces to make the engines and pods move in the desired direction. Generally speaking while on the ground, this pod works quite well coming in between 11 and 12 tons, and is able to achieve a maximum speed of 250m/s in a straight line, with 120m/s in a max rate turn (not the most maneuverable thing yet). That’s nearly 25% faster than previous first production run pods. The only major issue (aside from some visual details I want to clean up) the control pod has a tendency to “flap” like a flag in a strong breeze when fully airborne. After I get those issues sorted it’ll be ready for public release. Last note: I actually recorded most of the building process as well as some of the early test runs and I’ll cut that together as a speed build video soon.
  10. So I figure I’ll keep this thread as kind of a running design process journal in case anyone is interested, eventually I hope to have a tutorial on building Podracers but as it is I barely have any time. That being said I’m always on the lookout for cool designs and I’ve broken them up into some different categories like sleek/modern, unconventional (odd configuration of engines or other features), steampunk/mechanical mess. So far this is what I’ve got for sleek/modern. What do you guys think?
  11. Ord Turbo T-1 A more simplistic and skeletal approach (minimalist cockpit) the Ord is built to be as fast as a two engine pod can get. I think I mostly succeeded as its lightweight(ish) and fast and stable. Maneuverability goes up when using the roll keys in concert with yaw, however stability goes down. Craft File: https://kerbalx.com/GillyMonster/Star-Wars-Podracer-Ord-Turbo-T-1
  12. The first fully functional Podracers on KSP, that DON’T use KAS parts. Enjoy! Craft files are in the description on YouTube
  13. Voltek Inferno 4x The second vehicle is a personal favorite of mine, taking heavy inspiration from Star Wars’ quad pod. Thankfully there are no legitimate power couplings to fail. That being said it’s disintegrations still look spectacular. Very maneuverable with above average speed, high center of mass lends to some instability especially on rough terrain. Craft File: https://kerbalx.com/GillyMonster/Podracer-Voltek-Inferno-4x
  14. As for the first “Production” run of Podracers I introduce a total of 3 new vehicles. First: The Vulptereen Hatchet Fish! Craft File https://kerbalx.com/GillyMonster/Star-Wars-Podracer-The-Hatchet-Fish This pod was a simplistic attempt at creating a classic Star Wars pod design, large, bulky engines trailed by a comparatively small cockpit. It wound up being a middle of the road vehicle, being of average speed, maneuverability and stability, and so I think a respectable first production vehicle!
  15. Welcome to my Podracer Page! After quite a long hiatus I’m pleased to bring you the ONLY legitimate and functional Podracers from a Galaxy Far Far Away complete with demonstration videos and some light commentary on certain aspects. First is the father of my podracer line: the aptly named MK I: Craft File: https://kerbalx.com/GillyMonster/Star-Wars-Podracer-Mk-I The Mk I was a concept I had to make a podracer with loosely connected engines and a command pod that could move freely, it is the first successful combination of balancing drag, weight, thrust, and some mild control surfaces. It’s maneuverability is relatively limited, HOWEVER it is so far the fastest pod I’ve made topping out at 592mph!
  16. Hey everyone, new to Mechjeb, was planning a rover race using Mechjeb, I know how to set waypoints, but the rover doesn’t follow the right direction, alter its speed or brake. The wheels only serve to support the rover, propulsion is done via jet engines. What else do I need to set up so the rovers do what I want them to?
  17. More on the way. The idea is to make a race between three or four.
  18. After my son watched Episode 1 and loved the Pod Race, I had to build one. It’s an anti-Grav craft, and features actual wobbly control tethers thanks to infernal Robotics. It also possesses lore accurate top speed of almost 600mph! The Mk I Podracer! Craft Link Below the Video. Craft File: https://kerbalx.com/GillyMonster/Star-Wars-Podracer-Mk-I
  19. Transportation and support for your local Space Marines: Craft File https://kerbalx.com/GillyMonster/Warhammer-40k-Land-Raider-Crusader
  20. Generally speaking when I make a replica I’ll try to make it as visually and functionally accurate as possible and make small demo video showcasing the resulting vehicles features. I present the Warhammer 40,000 Land Raider Crusader Tank.
  21. After re-doing my WH40k Valkyrie I wanted to redo my Land Raider with all the techniques and finesse I’ve learned in the last year or so. So I present my latest creation: The Land Raider Crusader. CRAFT FILE: https://kerbalx.com/GillyMonster/Warhammer-40k-Land-Raider-Crusader
