  1. Today, I had fun around with the ASET ext command seat IVA, doing a Kerbal version of the LESS (Lunar Escape Systems)... A wild Nasa proposal to say the least, as you may know ^^ What we like : an astronaut in his space suit, strapped to a fuel tank, an engine (possible without RCS, and without gimbal, you control your attitude with your own weight only, while moving around (YES! )), no fancy speed or altimeter displays, you navigate with a clock and visual landmarks of the Moon, and you've got only 4 hours to rendez-vous with the CSM, because otherwize you'll run out of oxygen. Is this Kerbal enough ? Cheers
  2. Today, I continued making progress on my WIP mod (ASET IVA for the External Command Seat) I added a new variant (first one was orbiter/lander low tech) : low tech plane, inspired by the J-3 or equivalent old prop planes, (and by warbird cockpit mod : ) ), with the bare minimum instruments required to fly. : ) Here are some pics of the progress, and a quick showcase video (with a totally normal plane landing on the VAB ) Right side : Left side : External view with IVA overlay ON : And the video Having all this visibility and with the ground passing by so close, makes it really feel like riding a motorbike
  3. New WIP release : 0.3.1 Release 0.3.1-hotfix · kurgut/ECS_IVA (github.com) - Adds a new low tech plane IVA variant : an interior inspired by the J-3 or equivalent old prop planes, (and by warbird cockpit mod : ) ), with the bare minimum instruments required to fly. : ) - New dependencies : Reviva and B9partswitch (to allow switching between the different IVA flavors of this mod). Pics : Right side : Left side : External view with IVA overlay ON : Quick showcase video :
  4. Bit of progress for ECS_IVA : added a "plane low tech" variant. For now it's just a copy of warbird's bonny internal, applied to the ECS part. Still need edits and not yet released. (actually it could be confusing : it is the external command chair, but strapped inside a biplane. Could be mistaken for an actual cockpit) Pics: Moving pictures : https://streamable.com/oo1vnp
  5. Okay then ! I quickly reproduced this in a stock Install, only squad and DOE in. I enabled DOE debug mode too. then clicked between flare ON/OFF, sky sim. ON/OFF. Here's the logs : https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/3d94xia5q02ibcnosx134/zzz_KSP_log_DOE_bug32_stock.zip?rlkey=xpoyftbludxn9ckfi1tgto1cw&dl=0 Hope it helps Thanks for your answer for the keybind ! Cheers
  6. Not stupid, but careful, the stupid would be me and I can be for those type of things, but no haha, I did indeed click apply (even a bunch of times to be sure ^^) Yeah I usually remove them when I don't use asteroids on certain saves (we have nothing against space rocks we promise), just tested with them back, wasn't that... BUT... I just find the thing ! Flares ON + Sky Dimming OFF = no planet flares Flares ON + Sky Dimming ON = flares are back! Is this something that could be changed, so that the user can have this option ? sky dimming off + flares on ? Also quick question, I forgot and couldn't find by search or pressing all my keyboard what was the keybind to display ALL celestial bodies names (like on mouse over). Thank you ! EDIT : Altough for my purpose, I can obtain the same effect with sky dimming ON, and min significant body size at max + max sky brght at max too, the rest at minimum. But imho still would be a nice thing to have.
  7. Hello, : ) I installed Distant Object Enhancements on a test install, and the planet flares don't seem to be working (the rest does), below are pics in game VS pic from the forum on how it should look... I can't see any flare, should be bright and visible. Did the configs change recently, or is it a bug ? My graphic settings are at max/as usual. KSP.log : https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/pmq9ajj6q1ureq05oc31f/KSPlog_DOE_flare_bug.zip?rlkey=v8ge2eay8hkl88315n1oxmhjr&dl=0 ingame: How it should look / used to look last time I used it : Thank you
  8. Hi, here's a full reproduction of the historic flight of the Bell XS-1, breaking the sound barrier, in RSS/RO : ) 76 years ago, October 14th 1947, Chuck Yeager embarked on his Bell XS-1 "Glamorous Glennis", carried by a B-29 at Muroc airforce base. While having two broken ribs, he, the USAF and NACA marked history with this milestone, crucial in developing technologies and knowledge both for planes and manned space exploration. Embark on the "Glamorous Glennis" with Chuck Yeager, for this historical ride above mach 1, breaking the sound barrier for the first time ! The whole mission was flown from the cockpit, but the video has some external views as well, some archives images and original crew conversations, but from X-1A flight (starting at 5:40, the rest is AI custom generated voices I created to add immersion and make the thing feel more alive). This was definitely a challenging and fun mission to do, as well as learning a lot about the outstanding research and systems from that time ! Yeah I'm just in love with the old days analog era, true pioneers ! Any feedback appreciated (best watched with headphones) I also wrote a little mission report on the forum, with details on the mission in KSP, the hackeries involved in the filming, as well as many historical details, fun/interesting facts, with associated pictures and diagrams : ) Cheers
  9. How Chuck Yeager broke the Sound Barrier - The Complete Mission - KSP RSS/RO - XS-1 flight, October 14th 1947- Hi, I finally finished this project that kept me occupied for some days (weeks? ), a full reproduction of the historic flight of the Bell XS-1, breaking the sound barrier, in RSS/RO : ) 76 years ago, October 14th 1947, Chuck Yeager embarked on his Bell XS-1 "Glamorous Glennis", carried by a B-29 at Muroc airforce base. This was definitely a challenging and fun mission to do, as well as learning a lot about the outstanding research and systems from that time ! Yeah I'm just in love with the old days analog era, true pioneers ! Any feedback appreciated (best watched with headphones) Below the video, you'll find a mission report on how it was flown, recorded, many cool and interesting historical details with pictures, ressources, links, and mods used ! : ) Thanks for watching ! First some quick additional details about the video : - As mentioned above, I used the audio archive from the X-1A flight (credit to Retro Space HD), and made the audio match the corresponding parts. After digging and digging, I coudln't find any audio from the 6062 flight, if anyone knows about it, I'd be very interested ! - The chase craft is inspired by a P-80, which I believe was the plane used for this (please confirm if you know : ) ). Turns out it in the end, it looks more like a f3D, but it's ok The cockpit interior of the chase plane isn't historically accurate of course (that's a lazy bit from me). - 5:15 : This is a mistake from me, I'm almost positive the purge fuel exhaust was placed near the engine section, facing rear, not on the belly like here. - 6:14 : From what I red, when released, the mothership/X-1 assembly were slightly pitched down, to avoid stalling on the Bell upon drop. But as I had to record each scene multiple times, to get different angles, I resolved flying it horizontally instead, at the 20 000' drop altitude. This because I needed consistency between the different takes, to have the same background/altitude/angle, and make my life a tad more easy - 7:57 : As mentioned in the video, I'm using VOR (radio) navigation to return to Edwards. I don't know if Chuck did so too, does anybody know about this ? I'd guess he was flying VFR, but he also couldn't see much in this thing (actually much less than here, since this cockpit ingame can have its seat go up/down). Visibility was so poor, how could he fly and even land in that thing ^^ The how(s) (click pictures to enlarge) - After setting up a KSP install where I could get acceptable frames with all those pretty mods (that was almost some sisyphus/impossible task for my config^^), I first built the craft files, then I needed to create a custom IVA for the B-29 cockpit (from Airplane Plus mod), in unity : before after below, I'll maybe release this as a mod at some point, or addional config for Warbirds cockpits mod, by @theonegalen . : ) I worked with reference images, so it's mostly accurate to the real B-29 cockpit. I also tweaked both the X-1 IVA and P-80 chase IVA interiors. (both are from the great Warbird cockpits mod - The P-80 uses the Mk1 inline cockpit WB ASET IVA) - Then I created a custom runway, that I made match the Edwards base one, using Kerbal Konstructs. First I flew the mission in one go, only from the cockpit, with B-29 mothership / Bell XS-1 assembly. After that I recorded all the external shots. - Finally, I needed to have views from the chase plane : that was the tricky (to say the least) bit I used two methods : firt I created another runway next to the main one, spawned the two crafts on each runway, and with the help of Physics Range Extender mod, I made them both take off at the same. Once in the air, I used Atmosphere Autipilot amazing cruise flight controller, to automatically control the B-29, while I was manually flying around with the chase plane. Another solution I used, was simply, in the most kerbal fashion, to strap the P-80 on top of the B-29 assembly, making it a double mothership haha. And yes it could even fly ^^ - The last interesting and funny bob I'd like to mention is the "elevator" that Chuck used to get inside his X-1 cockpit midflight : for that I added a little elevator actuated by robotic parts. I would have the kerbal exit the B-29 cabin by the back. And EVA to the elevator to get in the cabin. Well, I forgot Kerbals on EVA can't walk on parts while under acceleration. This led to Chuck being slapped against a B-29 structural panel, "constrained" and unable to move with a wind of 200 MPH against his back. So change of plans, I redid the thing to be even a contrapti-er (?¿) contraption : I constructed another version of the craft, and put an external command seat on top of a spaghetti assembly of robotic parts that would take the kerbal from the start point, to the elevator, and down with it to the X-1 cabin. (Yeah as you noticed, I carefully hid this horrible thing as much as I could in the video^) The History : I'll add here some interesting facts that hooked my attention ("fascinated me" would be more accurate ) - Two nights before the flight, Yeager broke two ribs when he fell from a horse. He was worried that the injury would remove him from the mission, and hid it from his superiors. On the day of the flight, Yeager was in such pain that he could not seal the X-1's hatch by himself. His pilot friend Jack Ridley, the only one he told about this, rigged up a device, using the end of a broom handle as an extra lever, to allow Yeager to seal the hatch. Just imagine a Nasa test pilot doing the same thing today haha - I find amazing that the mission report by Chuck Yeager himself, only consisted of a single printed typed page. I used this as the good reference for the flying ingame : - Details on the XLR-11 rocket motor and its (very cool) cockpit controls : - For Science ! - The essential Mach meter : - The crucial stabilizer : - Finally, a random collection of bits and bobs - Ressources : - Recommended videos about the X-1 : - Mods used in the video : Thanks for watching and reading ! And happy new year !
  10. Thank you so much ! Yeah that was a decision I resolve to, flying horizontally, since I had to record multiple takes of each scene from different, and thus being sure I had the same background/altitude for it... Well done to have noticed that Cheers And btw, on XS-1, the speed was too low, and Chuck indeed entered a minor stalling upon release..

Details on the mission ingame, the recording, and many historical details and interesting facts, with pictures/diagrams Cheeers
  12. Now that you say it, I indeed remember my hands were sweating a bit on the translation controls Please post your progress/success in WDYDIKSPT ! Of course not, and thanks, I wouldn't have thought about it !
  13. Wow, thank you so much for this ! I inded can imagine how difficult this must have been to choose, there are so many talented fellow cinematic kerbals creators that I admire the work of... I'm honored and almost confused at the same time haha Let's a make a toast to every creators out there keeping the kerbal dreams alive, and inspirational And to KSP modders, allowing us to put those creative ideas into shape ! Happy new year to everyone and may the kerbals adventures continue on this forum for a long time ! Cheers
  14. Today, I continued working on this project in KSP, in RSS-Reborn... October 14th, 1947... Chuck Yeager... Yes, the first plane to break the sound barrier ! I spent hours trying to figure out how to fly the P-80 chase plane (I believe it was a P80 ?) together with the B-29, and the Bell XS-1 attached under its Belly, but I finally succeeded ! The view was magnificent, and I couldn't stop flying around like this for 20 minutes haha Until the full video comes out, here's a sneak peek of those two guys flying together : (I really can't get used to that much beauty in KSP ^^ ) If you don't know about it, the high res terrain is from Map the Earth mod, another Fox's jewel < 3 Have a good time for New Year's Eve, and see you "next year" as they say : P, for continuing KSP adventures as well as this iconic thread !
  15. Today I noticed something strange, I never realized before : I was really astonished by this view, and even afraid about the kerbal's health condition. Then, after hours of searching and reading in the NKA (National Kerbal Archives), I stumbled upon this : "Similar to snails, Kerbals have the natural ability to retract their head inside their body when they detect unusual situations and environment around them." [...] "This reflex behavior appears to be responsible of many rocket crashes through the Kerbals space exploration history, as the kerbonaut, once in a dangerous situation, leading to his head being "retracted", couldn't interact with the spacecraft anymore, nor seing the vital instruments readouts around him, leading most of the time to a fatality." [...] "in Year 17 D 145, [...] after considering natural evolution being too slow to fix this inconvenience, and after the disastrous Duna-One-X incident, the Kerbal Space Committee approved the installation of "struts" in most spacecraft cabins, firmly attached from the shell of the capsule to the Kerbal's head, thus preventing it from retracting. While certainly being arduous for the kerbonaut to endure, this engineering solution improved the safety of kerbalized missions by some non negligeable 137% [...]. Kerbopedia Universalis, XVIII-8-a
  16. Thank you ! Yeah I saw it and asked Vulkans how he achieved it : It involved some hackery for now, and some work to convert props, but it's doable indeed, which is good news. It will be planned for future PCR IVA PLUS updates, or when I make a high tech version of it.
  17. Just found out about the exsitence of this thread ! : D Here's a recent video I made on the occasion of an anniversary, of an historic first... The first ever concert broadcasted live from space, 58 years ago exactly on the 16th of december ! Those Gemini (VI and VII) astronauts were quite good at historic firsts... They played a prank on Houston by describing Santa Claus' sleigh going in a polar orbit, played the first ever concert in duet, broadcasted live from space, oh, and yeah, they also executed the first ever manned rendez-vous between two spacecrafts... Wally Schirra and Tom Stafford played Jingle Bells, on a little harmonica and a handful of bells, in duet ! Happy anniversary, and merry christmas to all
  18. New release, 0.9 : Release 0.9 · kurgut/PCRIVAPLUS (github.com) Lots of improvements/fixes, see below for full changelog : Added basic support for KOS/KPM to the CRTs. : ) @symphons Full(-ish) changelog : Current todo : Enjoy !
  19. Minor update, 1.2.2 : - Changed the syntax to use FOR, if users or modders want to interact with this mod. - No ingame changes Release 1.2.2 · kurgut/SRCS-Stageable-RCS (github.com) SRCS - Stageable RCS on SpaceDock
  20. Many thanks ! < 3 Glad you're enjoying it ! That's totally planned and in my "very-soon" todo list ! It would be indeed very useful, since KOS can provide infos and actions currently lacking in the current state of RPM for instance. I'd need to poke at how it's integrated in RPM, and most likely create a custom page for the current CRTs to have a KOS page... I'll most likely post updates about it in this thread : ) Happy hollydays to you !
  21. Hi ! Ok glad it works : ) For now, I'd want to finish this and the external command seat IVA I'm working on first. Then I have other IVA projects too planned^^ But why not ! (note that there are already nice IVAs for stock (Starilex/warbirds/KSA, if you're looking in the retro style for the mk1-3 : MAS has one, Max-ksp IVA too IIRC). Cheers and happy christmas
  22. Small update : Adds backface panels for the external view with IVA overlay ON. Adds a seat that can swivel to go EVA by the back (that was pain ^^) Add cockpit lights too (iirc they weren't there before, idk) Release 0.2.4 · kurgut/ECS_IVA (github.com) pics :
  23. Do you have all dependencies installed ? Could you provide your ksp.log ? It's not impossible I messed something up, but I tested it once before publishing it...
  24. - By suggestion, I've made an in-depth overview of this mod and yeah, I covered every single switch, knob or instrument lol Or you can see this as a centralized place for usage of all ASET retro props/RPM monitor pages too ^^
