  1. Oh thanks! I didn't see ur post until now. So what's this link you posted? Is it a craft file?
  2. Okay so first question; I want to get to Duna on one tank of gas yes. I could refuel it in LKO that would be pretty fun I guess! I like docking even though I've only done it a few times. And i would prefer to get back to kerbin again. For the landing, yeah I would like to land on the wheels. I did that the first and only time I landed on Duna. I'm not sure what the mass of the cargo is yet because I haven't made it. I'm working on that right now but to be honest I dont really care. I'm just playing sandbox and having fun. All I want is to bring more than the science junior and the other small gadgets... As long as I can actually move it out of the cargo bay and to the surface of Duna then I'm pleased. Could be a tiny rover or a small rocket with a science lab or just a rocket with some kerbals on it. And I've never tried to launch a spaceplane vertically, nor tried to land one vertically. I've only built 1 functioning spaceplane SSTO that I landed on Duna and crashlanded in the ocean on Kerbin and that took me 5 days. I launched and landed on my wheels and I had a cargo bay with only the basic science gadgets in it.
  3. Alright guys. I'm really new at the game and I haven't been to any other planets than Minmus, the Mun and Duna. And I've only sent a spaceplane SSTO to duna, never a rocket. But I've seen people send like big bases to Duna with a plane and like someone sends rovers or bases on wheels and drives them out of the cargo bay, and that's what I wanna do. I guess I don't necessary need a CRG 100 cargo bay but it has to have a ramp and that part I'm really struggling with. I normally use a fuel adapter in the back which makes it easy get a lot of delta V and TWR but with the cargo ramp i just dont know how to build a good plane that can get all the way to duna. And all the tutorials and stuff I've seen is really outdated
  4. Hello kerbonauts. I've landed on Duna before with a spaceplane I built myself, but right now I'm trying to build one and it has a few requirements. It's gotta be able to drag some weight with it and have a Mark 3 CRG 100 cargo bay and it should have a ramp. I want to bring a rover or a small base to Duna. I have come up with a freakin huge design but I can't manage to get it into orbit, it's just too heavy. I'm gonna upload some pictures and the craft file. Should I just give up on this design and start from scratch or has anyone built something similar that works? https://imgur.com/a/EYMYdUG This is what my design looks like. https://www.dropbox.com/s/xj5ocm5xp3piabx/Sputnik LXIX.craft?dl=0 this is the craft file. I would appreciate any tips or help.
  5. Content warning; If you can't stand part clipping, look away! So I'm fairly new to this game and I got really addicted to spaceplane SSTO's and I'm making one from scratch now without watching any guide or tutorials or anything, and I want it to be HUGE and able to carry loads of cargo. So far the plane is going to be more than 300 tons, which at least I think is ridicilous. And that's without cargo! I'll take any criticism and advice from guys if you wanna point out anything, anyway here's a few pics! https://imgur.com/a/s9s0OjZ I'll update the album as I progress the plane. I had to double the wings to make it take off the runway, and with these 8 engines it can barely accellerate, but I'll add quite a few extra rapiers and also a bunch of NERVS to be able to get anywhere. What's the biggest spaceplane you guys have made? Show me!
  6. I managed to land my plane the way it is in the file. Only thing I did is I pulled the NERV fuel tanks a bit up and the lower wing too so that they wouldn't crash as easy into the ground, and I also pulled the landing gear a bit down. I popped my 2 chutes first at landing, then the 3 other chutes, then I sailed away for a pretty long time and jumped 2-3 times until I had finally stopped. Took me bloody 2 and a half hours to land that thing! https://imgur.com/a/JlYaq4F is 2700 delta V enough to bring this bad boy home?
  7. Thanks! But yeah it was hell. I was designing planes for 3 days, ragequit for 2 days, then the day after i managed to build a plane that can land on duna and return. Worth it, haha. EDIT: Just hope 2700 delta V is enough to get home :O I'm still landed on Duna since I am busy doing stuff
  8. Yeah I'm sorry but i meant spaceplanes specifically. https://imgur.com/a/P4Baena I did it tho, no aerospikes or RCS or anything, just the chutes and loading a million saves to manage to land it.
  9. Amazing! That's what I've tried before, the part where you use a sub assembly, but I didn't manage to place it. So you re root everything to the docking port, then make a sub assembly with it, then you use the snap point for the docking port to place the payload to the docking port? And thanks so much for a good answer, I have been so annoyed with these cargo bays haha, but no more!
  10. This might be the dumbest question ever but I seriously can not place the science junior in a Mk3 cargo bay. Reaction wheels and a lot of other stuff is fine for me to attach in there, but the science junior never ever sticks. I have to just glitch it inside of the wall and try to make it looks as nice as I can, but it's really bothering me. I managed to do it once on accident, and never since. I am rotating it everywhere and turning on and off autosnap, and I've just tried for so long now and it's not working! It won't snap. And since we're talking about the cargo bays, how do you guys go on about putting labs and bases and stuff in the cargo bay? I've seen tons of videos where people open them up and fly out their base, or roll it out the back with a ramp. But I have yet to figure out how to actually place stuff in there. I've tried to use docking ports to attach stuff, but they don't dock, it just sorta gets stuck and I'm unable to take my cargo out. And also, how can I place a lab with wheels on it in there, and drive it out? Whenever I put wheels on something the wheels just clip outside of the cargo bay and are working but they just spin in the air.
  11. Thank you that is somewhat helpful. I'll post an imgur album of all the spaceplanes I've tried to land on duna. That's easy. I have tons of rockets. I have docked together several rockets in kerbins orbit and flied them over to Minmus and landed them all as a base too, and I'm fairly confident in my rocket building skills so far. And manouvering in space is the easiest thing I've done so far in this game. It's everything else that is hard. Just flying something in any orbit is easy peasy.
  12. Okay so I've tried for 2 days straight to land a plane on duna. I can build a plane that has a really good balance of center of mass and center of lift both with full fuel and no fuel, I can get to orbit, I can get to duna even with a 250 ton Mark 3 cargo plane that needs to orbit kerbin 3 times to even get out of its SOI and over to duna. And I can also land on kerbin. However, I CAN'T land on Duna. There's just no way, and it feels like I never will. I can't even control the plane anywhere near duna. All the way from kerbin over to duna is completely fine, takes a bit of time to turn the giant ass plane sure, but near Duna its impossible. The problems start when i get around like 50k or something around there. From that point on I just can't turn the plane around in less than a really long time, and once I start turning I just keep turning the same way forever, I can't stop it. And once I reach 30k in the atmosphere the plane just goes wild and starts spinning everywhere uncontrollably. I've watched every tutorial I could find, even videos that aren't tutorials just to see what they are doing, I've downloaded countless of Duna planes just to cheat them over to duna and try to land, I've tried with full fuel, no fuel, some fuel here and there, balance things out, but same thing every time. Spin spin spin forever. I'm at a loss of words and action, I've got no clue what to do. I've never been more angry at a game than right now. Sure the 2 first days I played was a bit hard and I managed to land on the Mun and Minmus, rendezvous and even dock fairly easily, but this is just (excuse my profanity) dumb. This community has been very welcoming and helpful since the day I made my account, so anybody, please teach me the ways of SSTO's I beg you ;-; So, TLDR; How the frick do you land a SSTO on Duna. I must be missing something. Do I need a ton of reaction wheels and RCS thrusters everywhere? Or is it my angle of approach that is wrong, idk. Someone please help me. I refuse to send a rocket there, once I saw all these crazy SSTO videos on youtube I fell in love with the game for the second time and I probably won't use a rocket again, unless I have to. I love building these planes, and I love flying them. Sorry if I seem really salty, cus I am. LOL EDIT: https://imgur.com/a/h1lOvbV Album here of the crafts I've tried so far, I'll try to see if I can find more but I think i deleted most of those I've failed with. EDIT 2: https://www.dropbox.com/s/15ayu33jqe2mngh/Lynni.sfs?dl=0 Here's a savefile as well
  13. https://imgur.com/a/MvLiETX First of all, here's my science tree and all my stuff unlocked. I know it's a pain that you can't see what parts i have but at least now you know my nodes in the tree that is useable. So, mainly I want to know about the drilling machine. I plan on going to Minmus first since it's really easy. I could use any tips or information at all because I got no clue how this drilling works. I need to know how I should build my ship, and what do i exactly do with it? I know you can make fuel out of ore. So do I just land the drill on Minmus, and when I have ore that can be made into fuel I can fly my drilling machine up to orbit and dock with whatever other ship and just re fuel it, for the sake of an interplanetary flight further from minmus for example? And also how exactly do you re fuel and what parts do I need for that? Thanks for all tips.
  14. https://imgur.com/a/2czqHrH Technically yesterday, I did my first attempt at docking! And it went well. I landed on minmus collected a ton of science, then I docked with my lab in low orbit around Minmus and i maxed out my 750 data lab! So i'm getting aaaaall the science. Then I did the same thing today, except on the Mun. I even flew the exact same rocket! I got the game like about a week ago and I've got 60 hours and 2 dockings under my belt. I feel so proud today. What I'm gonna do next is empty both of my labs for science, upgrade my research building so I can get those 500+ science nodes, and then I'm gonna build a brand new ship with loads of room in it so I can fly to both Moons and get all my kerbals back to kerbin for a well deserved break.
  15. So I have this rescue mission and I've seen tutorials on rendezvous but I have no clue how to do it other than in low kerbin orbit. https://imgur.com/a/ilYESDb this right here is where I'm at, and you can see the pod near the Muns orbit.
