Really awesome and ambitious project! I had a thought, looking at it, that a purely practical way to go might be to put a wireless micro module and accelerometers (ESP32 + MMA8451 or similar) inside the ball -- then you could dispense with the slip rings entirely and just deliver power over the pivots. Of course, this is much less mechanically and conceptually beautiful than the slip ring solution...
