  1. Eep. Speaking from recent experience, Kopernicus could put a lot of strain on my computer. Unless it was OPM that stretched my loading times.
  2. Now I'm imagining that old "This is Sparta" remix music video, only it's "This. Is. KSP!" and Jebediah's goofy grin.
  3. From the USI-LS page, original post, quote: Design side note: So 'Mulch'. Waste was used, and too generic. And I wanted something that showed that the stuff was kinda useful, not edible, and felt more 'kerbal' (and less like poo!) if that makes sense. End quote. As for fungi or fungi equivalents:
  4. You sure about that? I think they might have evolved from cave fungi. Also, can't just outright call it poop the mod author is entitled to some artistic license.
  5. Having dug into the wiki and had some sleep, I can address concerns and uncertainty. Ore can be converted to Fertilizer, and Kerbals produce Mulch as a waste product. One unit of Mulch is produced per unit of Supplies consumed. Greenhouses combine Mulch and Fertilizer to get Supplies in the following ratio; ten units of Mulch plus one unit of Fertilizer plus time results in eleven units of Supplies. In conclusion, isolated survival is indeed quite possible, and even has some advantages over the Snacks methodology, balanced by added mass and complexity required for self-sufficiency.
  6. That's good. I did think up a workaround for that, and the concept is still solid on its own.
  7. I always read the fine print. Reviewing the documentation for USI-LS, I'll definitely have to start a new save to get used to it. Fair bit more complex than Snacks.
  8. Some avenues of research would likely be passed over, and there will be certain peculiarities that would mean such an idea wouldn't be implemented by MY Kerbals. I could say much more but I want to preserve the process of discovery. I will say that LSVs will not be easy to reach. [EDIT:] And also that the asteroid idea opens up a LOT of possibilities.
  9. Drill probes, hauling a refinery up and down from orbit is an unnecessary expenditure of ∆v. And a planetary refinery is limited in location. And Snacks DOES provide the ISRU life support, and uses stock resources with extra features. So proper planning and ISRU tech is all that's required. Hitchhiker cans recycle soil, stock science lab converts ore.
  10. I've been developing a series of ships intended to support itself by using an ISRU to refuel. Snacks also allows you to turn ore into meals through the science lab, and recycle "soil" back into meals at a set rate, forty percent by default. Ship sits in orbit and sends a probe miner down to grab ore and return. Obviously moons and other low or null grav bodies are preferable. Heh, grab a big enough roid and you're set for several Cycles maybe.
  11. Hullcam is more or less a visual mod, right? As in different points of view. Unless there's some equipment you have to install, but you could easily uninstall it with KIS, I think. As for ongoing missions, maybe they should undergo an abort to stable orbit before the save file is passed on and they are filed into rescue contracts? Another consideration is companion probecraft. Although I suppose those could simply be docked up and ship's stocks filled as though active mining had taken place in the interim, where applicable.
  12. They don't sound like very good friends. Which is on them, not you. Small comfort, perhaps, but I suspect you did what you felt was right and tried to understand.
  13. Imma be straight with you. I am [adjective synonymous with adult activities] POOR. I got KSP for ten bucks on the Steam New Year's sale because I lucked out enough to look longingly at the page after trying to run my only other Steam game on my old potato butt laptop. That I got for free. Because it's old as [previous adjective]. I KNOW I'm missing out. Thank you SO MUCH for reminding me.
  14. Could the Forgotten be modded to act like a rescue contract when it comes to the roster? Maybe even replace all rescue contracts with the Forgotten and tweak the reward to instead grant the appropriate amount of science data. This could also work to keep them hidden until players have reached milestones roughly equivalent to that specific Forgotten vessel. But for the love of Kerbal don't kill them. Also, if you include DLC content, that immediately excludes me from playing. Rude.
  15. Nah, I wouldn't have included that part if I'd reverted and loaded them. The obvious solution was to send the crew up in the latest tourist trap.
  16. Captain Jebediah's Log; E+Y1D287 LSV01b Pathfinder; MET+D47 Someone once wrote, "The times, they are a-changing." As my crew and I settle into the new Model B Pathfinder modules, I find myself agreeing wholeheartedly. So much has happened in not even a year, and the Pathfinder-A was right at the center. What's this about A and B and all that, you might ask? Well, the science we've gathered and the research resulting from such have led to some pretty significant advances in propulsion, docking, comms, and more. The many probe launches and the operational experience we've gained aboard Pathfinder have taught us how to better use all the better gear. In essence, we're better at everything we were capable of before. However, we haven't yet cracked the secrets of using what we find out there to keep going. All of this means that we have yet to make a leap far enough for our LSVs to be considered a new generation. There is a nice consolation prize though. Pathfinder lives on. Indeed, if you operate under a conveniently loose interpretation of the Ship of Theseus concept, it's still the same ship since the modules have been docked to the tail end and replaced one by one. The mission timer might not not agree with me, but I'm using captain's prerogative to not give a flying fairing scrap. (That's right, computer, I laugh at your inflexible adherence to rules of logic that have no bearing on anything else! Ha! And again ha!) Returning to the topic at hand, it's more than just Pathfinder that's changed. We're adopting a whole new mission approach. After consulting with several academics and authors of speculative fiction, Pathfinder will be making full use of the probe control option to lead a task force of drones, a marked shift from the previous single-package philosophy of Pathfinder A. A whole new chapter is about to unfold. And Pathfinder will be leading the way once more, with some new drone buddies! This is Captain Jebediah signing off.
  17. SCANsat eh? Notice anything - [CLASSIFIED DATA REDACTED]
  18. Kerbal choirs sing your praises. That first orbit is truly a wondrous thing.
  19. My LSV (Long Service Vessel) crew consists of two Kerbals of each specialization. Two pilots for probe control, two scientists for the lab (and occasionally one goes down with a remote-pilot lander) and two engineers, mostly unused at the moment but will be manning probe miners and an onboard ISRU when the technology is developed.
  20. Oof. Total radio eclipse must have blown. I've always been concerned about that when considering interplanetary missions, which is why my first interplanetary mission will have a Mk1-3 pod, for the probe control point you get from having two pilots manning it.
  21. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Wouldn't know how to approach the problem. 1st option certainly seems simpler at a glance. I think limited testing would need to be done before YOU decide. Or whoever is managing the file.
