  1. Isn't CX-4181 a base part?  Perhaps I misinterpreted the kOS startup instructions.  It implies CX-4181 is standard.  If that's not the case I will redirect my questions to the kOS community.

Here's what's written in kOS docs.

You can use kOS in a career mode game, but it requires a part that you have to research which isn’t available at the start of the tech tree, so this example will just use sandbox mode to keep it simple.   Make the vessel contain any unmanned command core, a few hundred units of battery power, a means of recharging the battery such as a solar panel array, and the “Comptronix CX-4181 Scriptable Control System”

  2. I'm trying to get kOS working but cannot find the CX-4181 SCS in the standard parts library.  As I understand it CX-4181 is supposed to be part of the base install.

I tried a few different things but the cleanest attempt to find the part was:

    - clean-ish install on Windows of Kerbal 1.9.1  I say clean-ish because the install was done by Steam and Steam retains some data from one install to the next.
    - start a new Sandbox game.
    - enter the VAB
    - search the parts list for CX  - nothing shows up
    - open the Control parts tab - CX is not there

For reference I also tried this on my primary Linux box running Kerbal 1.8 with lots of mods.

Any help is much appreciated.    Thanks in advance.

  3. > if you can create the maneuver node

That's my problem. I want to program MJ to create a maneuver node with a custom criterion.  The more I think about the problem the more impossible it looks.

My second example above may be achievable if I knew how.  Can MJ create a maneuver node 5 minutes in the future AND use a criterion like "align to plane of Moon."

My first example is even more problematic. I want to create a Node at periapsis that sets the next periapsis based on the real conditions. In my case the periapsis occurs on return from a Hohmann loop.  I think the problem is that MJ would need to iterate to find the solution. If that's even possible MJ would likely need an input like "prograde burn" just to start guessing at the right solution.

  4. I'm trying to use MechJeb to manage the burns needed for my Earth-Moon Aldrin Cycler: KSP Wikivideo.  Unfortunately I currently have a couple funky maneuvers that I can't seem to wring out of MechJeb.

    1. Inbound on an elliptical orbit, I want a maneuver node at Earth PE that sets up a Hohmann loop around the moon and returns to Earth PE=3000km.

    2. Plane alignment in the leadup to an Earth-Moon Hohmann loop. See images below. I don't think this can be done as a standard AN/DN adjustment. At least not as cheaply as doing it on the inbound trip to the earth.  Problem: In Earth-Moon Hohmann transits any deviation from planar alignment is amplified by the close approaches.  Plane alignment can be fixed quite cheaply by adjusting out-of-plane velocity such that the Earth & Moon PE encounters provide the appropriate tweaks.

  5. I wrote and video'd a tutorial on creating an Aldrin Cycler between the Earth and Moon using realsolarsystem.

The core challenge is how low can you get the Delta-V for maintaining your Earth-Moon Cycler?  The one criteria I'll throw in for fair comparison is Earth PE=3000km.

There are a few optional challenges.

Create a Kerbin-Mun Aldrin Cycler.  Add the instructions to the Wiki Tutorial.

Cruise Ship design.  Show us your best tourist friendly cruise ship. It's gotta have lots of windows! Nobody wants to a t-shirt with "I went all the way to the moon with an inside cabin and saw nothing!"

Create a Kerbin-Duna Cycler.  Tell us about your cycle times and delta-V requirements. You can start from here: https://christopherhayes.weebly.com/uploads/2/3/3/9/23399028/kerbin-duna_aldrin_cycler_draft.pdf

    MechJeb? kOS?
Can you automate the recurring burns to keep this cycler running?

  6. I wrote a tutorial for running an Earth-Moon Shamrock Cycler using Kerbal Space.  I used the RealSolarSystem package so this really is Earth-Moon, not Kerbin-Mun.  Here are links to the Wiki page and video tutorial.  I wrote this because when I become a space tourist I want to visit the Moon in the comfort of a big cycler cruise ship. Yes, I'm willing to wait a few years.
