  1. Even if orbital tourism did work economically (I think that it does not), it would still not encourage large-scale economic growth in the spaceflight sector. SpaceX loves to do everything in house. Even if it did, it would not be growth in the right way, that is, it would not promote long-term colonization of space. Naturally, I'm assuming this is what you want it to do.I Also, Disneyworld and Everest do not equal picnics to LEO. It's not that I have a problem with orbital tourism, I just see it as an attempt by spaceflight fans to find an economic justification for spaceflight efforts; something of which there is precious little. And don't you dare mention asteroid mining, I've heard all that before!
  2. Considering that the launch price of KSP 2 is 60 USD, yes, the DLC's should be stock. And don't you DARE nerf my Wolfhound engine!
  3. Mining the Moon for what? Have you ever heard the phrase "selling coal to Newcastle" ? No one on Earth wants anything the Moon has to offer, with the exception of the odd planetary geologist. "Loads of people". Like "the average American" , the only place they exist is on paper. Quiet! Don't give him any ideas!
  4. I finished The Brothers Karamazov a while back, and now I'm reading Crime and Punishment. Also just finished Edward Teller's Conversations on the Dark Secrets of Physics. Also finishing Nien Zhang's Life and Death in Shanghai. All of them certainly worth a read! As for SF, I read Frank Herbert's The Godmakers. I liked his writing style, so I'm gonna go read Dune sometime. And no, I haven't read it yet. I think I saw Aldrin's book at my library; I'll have to pick it up.
  5. Hah! There are all sorts of antenna types! There are whole textbooks on the subject. I don't think there's really a distinction between direct and relay IRL, though, because any antenna transmitting to a relay is a direct antenna from the perspective of the relay. Perhaps I misunderstood your question?
  6. Hmmm... British colony, states? I guess India? The only reason I'm on this thread is because I'm interested in languages and I'm learning Russian. I speak English as my primary. Any advice on learning another language would be very welcome!
  7. Like I said elsewhere, English is just the Indo-European language group mashed back into one with all *unnecessary* features dropped. It's also classified as analytic by linguists, since we don't use true endings, like, say Russian or Portuguese. Sometimes, though, I wish we did...
  8. Once every 36 hours seems to vastly underestimate the engineering difficulties inherent in this project. Also, SS needs infrastructure. That requires some serious Ka-ching!
  9. The part about Mercury developing antimatter tech is interesting as well. Also, it seems your ships aren't torchships, right? You said they drift, have hibernation systems, etc. Curious as to why you rejected torchdrive tech...
  10. Sure. Who's paying for it, though? SLS is government funded. As SpaceX fans are so fond of pointing out, Starship isn't.
  11. Very interesting! I like the US-China Pact thing. Also, I'd suggest moving the exploration of Ceres closer to the beginning of manned spaceflight in your 'verse.
  12. We don't really know what will happen, as pointed out by panda above. Perhaps after the launch of KSP 2 they'll reduce 1's price... As for the cost, remember that this is a one-time purchase. You never have to pay for KSP again, once you download it. I've gotten many hours of enjoyment already, and I'm a relatively new player.
  13. Haven't seen most of this discussion but I'm gonna say that one SS loss with crew on board, when the loss could have been averted with an LES, would wreck public opinion regarding the vehicle.
  14. Yeah, pretty sure Shadowzone had a video on the topic of Starship aborts a while back. I think he said it could just barely get off the pad.
  15. Pretty sure it has just enough thrust with all Raptors to barely ascend once fully fueled.
  16. The USS Enterprise could one-shot the Death Star. And obviously, the NCC 1701 E was the best Enterprise. Boom! Two fanbases in one post! Do I get extra points?
  17. [snip] Yes! My own: SpaceX didn't launch the first commercial astronauts. Convair and McDonnell did. It was called Project Mercury.
  18. Oh, goodie. The engineering should be fairly trivial, though, for people (Kerbals, rather) who can produce and store large quantities of AM. Don't really know whether I want it in the game regardless.
  19. So many people think that the folks who run corporations are inhuman greedy money-grabbers. The truth is that they're humans, just like the rest of us, and are generally rational individuals. They can't and won't put microtransactions or purchasable funds in the game. Remember, the launch price will be 60 USD. It will work the same way as KSP 1. One purchase does it all. As pointed out above, the worst TTI can do is to do a Stellaris and release a new DLC every other month. Then again, maybe they'll let us down. If so, it would just be a rehash of Disney with Star Wars.
  20. Which theory do you think is likely to be the theory of quantum gravity? Why? I'd love to see some discussion on this topic.
