Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame
s_gamer101 replied to peadar1987's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Salyut 7: If it was Sci-Fi it would be ok, but for a movie based upon real events it should be more realistic in my opinion. In the movie there was a fire on the station (I think this didn‘t even happen in real life, did it?) and they managed to stop it but they said that the Soyuz capsule wasn‘t controllable any more because all the electronics and stuff on the inside were completely burned. And later in the movie, they discussed about the possibility that one cosmonaut could escape with the Soyuz. (Apparently the electronics and stuff were suddenly fully operational again). And then NASA sent a Space Shuttle to rescue them all (in real life the Soyuz was still working and the Cosmonauts were able to return to Earth without problems). I don‘t think the docking system of a shuttle was compatible with the one used on the Salyut station. Edit: I still like this movie. -
Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame

Armageddon: Two shuttles being launched to land on an asteroid that is approaching Earth. They‘re under constant acceleration from the SSME‘s during the entire flight, completely ignoring orbital mechanics. They made a Moon gravity assist (with SSME‘s still on full throttle) and they were experiencing a very high G force because of the Gravity assist (like 8 G‘s or more). They were also ignoring the fact that the SSME‘s need fuel from the external tank. There were also some ridiculous boosters attached to the shuttle orbiter that were also constantly running. And they also managed to plan the mission and do the entire launch preparations in a few weeks. -
Low frame rates near space station

If a mod is made for 1.8, there is a very high chance that it also runs on 1.10, because there shouldn't be so much difference between 1.8 and 1.10. (But the opposite will most likely not work because using mods that are made for a newer KSP version is problematic.) @ShadowZone made a video on YouTube where he shows how you can change CKAN's settings so that it allows you to install a mod that is not yet updated for the latest KSP version. I recommend to check it out. -
KerboScript? I once worked with the drag‘n‘drop coding system of Lego Mindstorms at some public event for kids. (By that time I was a kid too) In my opinion, it was more or less self-explaining.

Let‘s attach an SSME to every airliner, since an SSME is running with Hydrogen and Oxigen which doesn‘t emit CO2. Jet engines would be used for takeoff and landing and the SSME for supersonic flight, greatly reducing the time of flight. (Just joking)

Low frame rates near space station

Yes, when I was playing on my old PC (which is a little bit slow) it also couldn‘t handle scatterer. -
My mission report for my reusable STS-7 (finally): https://imgur.com/a/bDQ14Tu And STS-8 is here: https://imgur.com/a/fwEK3aI Mods: EEX, RCS Build Aid, Trajectories, KER DLC: Both Making History and Breaking Ground I'm using a new shuttle. It should have enought delta V for missions beyond the Kerbin series, can carry external payload and has a reusable launcher (as long as I don't crash it).

What do you think, does this look like an orbital greenhouse/hydroponics? It seems like those reaction wheels are the only stock parts that are actually green (at least at the top and at the bottom of the part). However, I'm not the first player who built "hydroponics" using these reaction wheels. Maybe it would look better if I'd replace the fuel tanks in the service bay with science containers.

It looks somehow like they built an Appolo style mission in KSP and forgot to undock the command module before landing.

The font of the yellow letters on the left side reminds me of KSP‘s main menu.

Another real life SSTO Kerbalism using a linear aerospike. The U-2 was also a little bit kerbal since it had a bicycle landing gear. I‘ve seen this on some low-mass spaceplanes that other people made in KSP. Source: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_U-2
