  1. Made a video showing how good KSP can look in RSS/RO with raymarched clouds and 6K downscaled resolution. There is only up from here!
  2. Here's something fun while yall wait, I recently upgraded my hardware so I can do much more in the realm of graphics
  3. That's something I'll consider in the future. For now the blanket solution is to put the cylinders into an Extras folder or another mod, it seems the full scale was wayyyy too ambitious for stock KSP. It's been a minute since I've dusted Unity off, so I'm going to work on new stuff before I fix this.
  4. Next update is going to be huge; planned release is after Christmas. I am using AI as a tool to do some of the texturing, and some of the models in the new update were inspired by artificial-intelligence-created reference images made with stable diffusion. It is my intent that I used AI ethically in this project and only for visual improvement.
  5. Info-dump, here we go. I haven't left inspiRE and I intend to release it during the upcoming winter break. I have been extremely busy this semester and I haven't found much time or motivation for creative work. That being said, if you've seen my Paraterraforming mod post, I learned blender and 3D graphics over the summer because it was on my bucket list of skills that I wanted to learn. I'm still learning more things and I intend to add a large lunar expansion and chemical plant expansion shortly. While I was learning blender, though, I realized that I was missing a large part of the project that needed to be added. Transitions, computer graphics, and worldbuilding I had not addressed when writing the video script and shot lists. The film would be devoid of wonder and would be lacking clarity if I did not have those three things. So, I am using the skills I learned from building the Paraterraforming mod to do those things; I have some behind-the-scenes graphics attached to this post. I anticipate working with blender and AI in the future. There's a lot you can do with KSP to have worldbuilding, but other creative tools tell a better story. Nevertheless, KSP graphics have increased in quality since my last post; if you've seen Blackrack's EVE volumetric clouds and Parallax 2.0, you know what I'm talking about. I'm anticipating the release of the volumetric clouds and some other starship assets this winter, and I will get to work filming the KSP side of the project as soon as those are released. In the meantime, I'll be trying to pass all my finals and retain some brain cells so that I can teach yall some thermodynamics soon (I wasn't just going to make an entertaining film)! Thanks to Melodysheep for opening my third eye to computer graphics and music, my work is heavily inspired by them. projekt inspiRE 2022 Picture Album
  6. @blackrackIs the new volumetric system more GPU intensive or more CPU intensive? Right now with current EVE and a decked out RSS/RO save, I have 95% GPU usage and 40% CPU with a 1080ti and 3950x. The fog btw is incredible and I can't wait to see dust on Mars.
  7. Honestly, the volumetrics are presentable and realistic as they stand in the teaser images, and you've outdone yourself again @blackrack. When it comes time to it, how will the pipeline work for updating to KSRSS/RSS; if the devs are already communicating with you forget I asked this question. Again, congrats on your inspiring work and I hope you have a good day
  8. If you're talking about O"Neill Island I habitats, I don't think I'll be doing those. Cylindrical habitats to me seem like they would be more livable because of the centripetal acceleration remaining constant throughout the longitudinal axis (except maybe for the caps), and a sphere would have max acceleration in the midpoint and 0g at the caps.
  9. Should I add tether-based megastructures to the mod? They would be mostly just for visuals because rigging a launch loop is way over my expertise. Next update is going to include a massive (>1km^2) polypropylene/polyethylene/other byproducts plant for atmospheric bodies. There may be a variant for vacuum bodies (bring your own CO2), and I am heavily considering adding fusion fuel processing plants.
  10. @DocNappers does it allow for autocannon firing between multiple ships in orbit, a-la Children of a Dead Earth or the Expanse-style?
  11. Does this redux mod make orbital combat viable? It has been broken in BDA for a while, just wondering if that has been fixed recently or not.
  12. Most objects in the mod are Kerbal Konstructs statics. The trusses and O'Neill cylinders are parts.
  13. I'm going to change the MIT license to the GNU GPL 3.0, it seems like a better decision now that you pointed it out. I am working on making the page look presentable as I was on vacation when I posted the mod; I'm also working on 2 projects now (inspiRE and a HOPE VASIMR project) so I'll get around to it this week. Good to see you around, @linuxgurugamer
  14. I am considering a very large expansion to the mod, adding Stanford tori, maybe some cloud cities, Loftstrom Loops, and Orbital Chainsaws. I may change the license, but I want people to change my stuff and privately use it if they want. "Let the kids have the music," really, as long as I'm credited and no other clones of Paraterraforming show up on Github or Spacedock.
  15. So the issue is colliders on an accelerating object are awful and even KSP mechazilla's have a problem with colliders. Even if I put more than one, or make the collider very large, you will still not be able to not glitch out. There is a caveat, though. I remember a mod called StanfordTorus or something similar, and it had a mass accelerator which was functional and was possibly an engine with a non-damaging plume. Since I'm trying to make a constant acceleration mass driver, I have no clue if moving an internal engine in a static is even possible. So for now they're mostly visually cool.
  16. Paraterraforming mod is now public on Spacedock and GitHub!!! I'm working on the project still and release is slated for this summer! (I lied , will likely be winter break 2022) https://spacedock.info/mod/3066/Paraterraforming

  18. I have released a pre-alpha testing version of the ParaTerraforming mod on github, come be a tester and get early access now! https://github.com/InfoTheGamer/ParaTerraforming
  19. I am still working on this project, and I hope to release it this summer in video form. Right now, I'm making a variety of chemical plants, including but not limited to CO2 extraction, methanol reactors, polyethylene and other polymerization reactors, electrolyzers, and Sabatier reactors. These plants are necessary to produce more complex plastics and other materials that are necessary for a self-sustaining off-Terra colony. When I'm done, these and other special things will be released in my Paraterraforming Mod on Spacedock and Github. I'm super hyped for this project and it's been cooking in the oven for over a year. Please be patient and expect a KSP video that does not compromise on realism or visual quality.
  20. Here's some images/videos of what I've been working on in the past 6 months. Starship Booster 7 Starship over Hawaii HOPE VASIMR accelerating out of Terra's well Ble gi (Blue Earth) McKendree Cylinder over Jupiter Sol Valkyrie: My derivation of Pellegrino's Valkyrie without solar departure engines and instead relying on a stellaser to push it to 92% c. Also, I've made the radiators Curie-point radiators out of molybdenum so that they work during cruise. Exoskeleton Methane NTR Tanker Starship Refueling over Pacific Ocean
  21. My most recent video explores how a fusion ship would accelerate out of Earth's gravity well and provide artificial gravity for its crew, among other things. I'll link resources from Atomic Rockets that I've used to make the ship. http://www.projectrho.com/public_html/rocket/realdesignsfusion.php#gasdynamic http://www.projectrho.com/public_html/rocket/realdesignsfusion.php#asteroidcrewtransport I really like this ship. Its radiators are massive: 2.8 GW of waste heat needs to be radiated at a fairly high temperature. The radiators are in 3x symmetry, so not much efficiency loss from backscatter. I made some changes/amalgamations: unveil the blackbox fusion propulsion system as a fission-charged gasdynamic mirror fusion engine. A gasdynamic reactor and engine seemed probable to me as one of the first fusion engines to show up in space, as it had a similar mass flow rate and exhaust velocity. Also, I changed the AG system to where the entire ship rolls around its longitudinal axis, with fuel at the ends to make it the largest moment of inertia and therefore stable in space. The centrifugal acceleration also helps with radiator plumbing until it has to travel up the gradient. Finally, the fuel mode, deuterium-deuterium fusion, was the easiest non-catalyzed fusion mode I could realistically see used in space. This ship will be in the 2nd part: The Belt, outer planets, fission (some fusion).
  22. The first systematic approach at solar system expansion using KSP as a simulator. projekt inspiRE will release soon™; featuring soundbites from Isaac Arthur, nuclear expansion and tension, and advanced propulsion concepts/technologies. Featuring Artemis III (2022 version) and other NASA concepts; from the return to the moon to the settling of post-humans on Proxima Centauri b. Beginning in the summer of 2020, this project was conceptualized, and since then, has gone through 5 major revisions. Throughout those revisions, realism has been added and the goals of the project have been refined: this project features full RSS/RO (Real Solar System and Realism Overhaul). Not only are future propulsion concepts realized, but also future power sources and the ways to manage their heat are explored in depth. Thanks to publicly available NASA presentations and the Atomic Rockets website by Winchell Chung, nearly two years of research was compiled into the project. Obviously, presenting all this research only scratches the surface of what I’ve covered, so I encourage you to explore the websites below. Atomic Rockets - http://www.projectrho.com/public_html/rocket/ NASA Artemis - https://www.nasa.gov/artemisprogram As of November 28, 2022, the project is still in development as I wait for an update to the EVE volumetrics and as finals comes crunching down. I plan on using this thread to talk a little about the research I've been doing in the past year and why I am doing this project instead of being 100% sane (lol). The amount of work I have put into this project shows when some of the scenes blur the lines between reality and simulation; the storyboard Word doc has over 8,000 words and I'm not finished. I'm using this thread to both 1.) make myself accountable and finish the thing already, and 2.) showcase what I have already made to the community without spoiling the project. Trailer has already dropped:
  23. Gasdynamic Mirror Fusion Propulsion to Callisto. It contains snippets from my upcoming project which I'll link as well below. projekt inspiRE trailer, release May 2022
  24. I've been having some trouble adding City Lights to other planets like Mars and the Moon for a future-type scenario. Mapping EarthCities alphamap onto Mars or Luna yields no results, and I need some help using the EarthCities file to add cities to other planets.
  25. I don't know if this is a Kopernicus or EVE or RSS thing, but it has to do with all three. How could I put city lights on the moon, or Mars? Since RSS scales the stock system, would this change anything about how EVE generates city lights? If this has been done before, how is it possible?
