Nope. All parts come from BDB, Redirect or ARK. No stock parts.

    ARK?  what is that mod?

Also, in honor of the scrub today.... I will be building stuff for Apollo program again, now that I have ditched Kerbalism (due to the unrealistic weight changes) for reasons that mod team has voiced here.  After all, if we don't have real world moon landing capable system, we may as well sim in one!

its ok.  Jeb never had a crash that he didn't walk away from that he described as "not worth it".  After all, OH the SCIENCE from the telemetry!

If you want Saturn C-8/ Nova rocket, NFLV has 7.5m parts that can make a good S-IC-8

I disagree. The C-8 parts can be made to be just as modular as any of the other parts. I mean, it's literally just a giant tank and an engine skirt like the S-IC on the Saturn V. Making adapters for the S-IC-8 would be no different than the adapters for the S-IC or the S-IVB imo.

As for ugly, I disagree with that too, but to each his own.

Also, kind of funny you find the Saturn V with four strap-on LRB/SRBs okay, but not the S-IC-8 which would be less complex and less resource consuming on the game.

I seriously don't get how this is ugly.  I mean, it's just an Americanized N-1, and I've never heard anyone call the N-1 ugly.

Ugly is relative.... but in wet navy terms.... it has the tiny bow of a corvette (smaller than a Destroyer) and the back end of a Montana class (very THICK battleship that made the Iowas look like skinny jeans).  The combo of that would get any navy designer keel hauled.  Just go with the more elegant externals.  If you do that right, you can even do some asparagus fuel for the main stack....

Github has a page width restriction which makes the image a bit small.  I wasn't aware people were using it as a reference but I'd be delighted to put higher res images on a build guide page (similar to the BDB probes pages) if people would find that useful - just nobody ever asked before!  I've got all the craft files too so will sling them on github for you.

...when you click on "like" and the forum tells you that Bob ran out of facial expressions for the day....

    ...They underestimate my piloting!

Looks really sharp.  Will be getting thing back into my current build over the weekend.  Love the texturing work upgrades.

Also, I don''t mind doing leg work; but 30 pages into skimming for the specific filers references, can someone throw me a lifeline?  If orc, tu was part of it, and I use it....but what were the 'extra' that allow aged looks, etc.

System Heat integration - TESTING NEEDED

So we are currently testing integrating System Heat into BDB as a soft dependency to manage boiloff. We are looking for feedback and testing right now.

    Some notes

    1. System Heat in the future will likely become a BDB dependency but a soft one. Meaning you can remove it without adverse effects and things will work as before (this is an aspect that needs testing, ie is everything working fine even if you dont install it with todays updates to the dev branch?). For the time being System Heat is not bundled with the development branch files, you need to grab it separately

    2. For testing integration please grab the DEVELOPMENT version of System Heat from github here :

    https://github.com/post-kerbin-mining-corporation/SystemHeat/tree/dev

    3. Things like Centaur jettison etc should be working and have an effect and different types of tanks should have different levels of boiloff and cooling requirements too. Unlike the old BDB system boiloff rates are fixed in config so you cant tune to taste in the difficulty menu. However unlike before you have ways to mitigate boiloff. We may also get a feature to turn off boiloff in the SH menu in the future for people who want to use System Heat but not use it for boiloff. The way we have balanced things is outlined below.

    Image

    4 How it works

In order to manage boiloff simply enable cooling on all tanks that require it in the VAB. You can then spam enough radiators until the loop temperature stablises in the part action window.

    Image

Better would be to open the System Heat ui. We can see for instance we need 5kW of cooling here

    Image

with 3 conformal MOL radiators we are good to go.

    Image

With a 4th we have a bit more margin. You can also assign parts to loops. Radiators in a given loop will only cool heat generating parts in that loop. In this case the loop is red because the radiators and tank have been reassigned to loop 1. Loops are helpful to keep ships cooling systems separate when docking, or within a single vessel if you have different requirements. For example a nuclear reactor and high powered rads on one loop, and the cryo tanks and small rads on another.

Parts cannot be reassigned from 1 loop to another in flight but the ID of each loop can be changed. You might want to do this for instance if you are docking 2 nuclear tugs and both have their tanks and rads set to loop 0. To avoid merging the loops upon docking, you can change the ID to another number on one vessel. Note that in such a case merging the loops is unlikely to cause issues since the two loops contain similar parts. You can check the system heat wiki for more information. The UI might look a little intimidating at first glance but I feel its actually informative and intuitive once you've used it just a little. And of course as I said you can remove system heat if you would rather not deal with it.

With this you are ready for zero boiloff cryo adventures. And of course huge thanks to Nertea for adding these features to System Heat for our needs.

    Image

Looks promising. Will grab it tonight.

Leo/Gemini:  I was listening to Scott Manley on the way into the office.  It was a slightly older episode (reviewing heat shields after Starliner return).  He mentioned that the offset center of mass. Was actually first used during thst program.  Could we get this applied at some point like the Apollo COM part switch?

    Upcoming Mod Dev changes

Hello all. Thank you all for your continued feedback and support. I need to announce a development change for the Mod.

As you may know, I have been rather brutally slowly updating older parts to a higher def standard. The BDB team has also been in the process of adding higher res versions of keystone US/NASA Probe mission parts, just check out @Invaderchaos's phenomenal Pioneer 10, Kepler, and Mariner line of parts, plus other upcoming projects. So after discussion, we agreed that it made sense to work cooperatively to bring my planned mission parts and remakes over to BDB, where they can coexist with the set of Launch Vehicles, Upper Stages, SRBs, etc. that launched these historic spacecraft. I will thus be joining their Dev team and continue to work on Probe parts alongside their other projects.

The most immediate effect is that the Viking mission will now be released under BDB once completed. I am back in active development of the Viking parts, please keep an eye out on the BDB Thread for an update soon. Other part remakes, such as Voyager, Cassini, STEREO, etc. may also eventually transition over to BDB.

What does this mean for the ProbesPlus Mod?

I am currently not sure. I will continue to attempt to fix any bugs and issues, so support will continue. I am also thinking about working on generic or loosely inspired parts that do not fit within BDB's US-based theme. This could mean other countries probe missions could get some attention, such as additional Russian, ESA, JAXA, or ISRO missions, as well as private sector satellites similar to my most recent SSL-1300 inspired "Barça" bus. I am open to suggestions and ideas but right now I am fully invested on finishing Viking for BDB and will have plenty of time to find some direction for the Mod.

    ~cheers

Glad to hear of the partnership (through the BDB thread).  You have some phenomenal stuff and I have used your mod in many builds over the years.  Looking forward to more great news!

Apologies are rare on the web. When I do get them, I take them with much gratitude and cheer!

Also, as an aficionado of puns, I appreciate the "apollogies" on a mod currently developing Apollo related content. The well placed surplus "L" gave me a giggle!

In other words, it's all good!

I eat crow where I self serve it.  As for the double L, I gave in and posted from my phone.  I hate to do that because I am all thumbs.

Another question - How is Friznit getting those blueprint-style images for the Wiki when Kronal Vessel Viewer has been dead for a while?

Inquiring minds *DO* want to know.... how the heck does he get them that nice.  I guessed that he was just doing section by section in the VAB with a chromakey of some sort; but it would be interesting to know the 'behind the scenes...

I expect people to not be rude when I give honest feedback or ask a question. Lucky for me, other people provided actually helpful answers, and now Cobalt is well aware the function is missing.

It is, in fact, a dev version. in that you are correct. That means, if something is incorrect, the devs need to know. Hence, why I comment. From Cobalt's reaction, it's clear the functions should have been there, and something went wrong along the way.

Not me! Honestly, I do believe it was originally there. I seem to recall checking for it explicitly. Lots of "Labs" are actually, well... Not. Dunno why, but Salyut mods are the worst offenders. Raider Nick's Soviet Stations and Tantares both have this shortcoming. It's made me kind of wary about anything that says "Lab" on it.

Where it went I do not know, but it sounds like I just need to wait a few and update BDB again.

The craft is still in orbit at the intended location. Will it break from having lab functions dropped into one of it's parts mid-flight? Or should I bring the crew home while I wait?

Didn't mean to come across crosswise.  I have been watching that one since it hit the dev build and had seen where there had been mention that there were several texts that were (at the time) just placeholder.  I just know that by the time things hit main that these folks tend to get it polished.

    Again, apollogies.

Update is here! Update adds a bunch of new antennas, remotetech compatibility, and fixes some science stuff.

    WkJNhn7.png

    0.02 (Antennas!)

-Added 'A' to the beginning of each antenna's name, to help with VAB organization.

-Added AN120 Omni Antenna - side folding version of the N100

-Added AKD2 Antenna - Extremely simple starting antenna. Short range, weighs almost nothing, has almost no power draw. 1Mm range.

-Added AA23 Antenna - Mid tech omni antenna. Nothing special, mostly looks cool/different. 2.5Mm range.

-Added AF23 Helical Antenna - Early tech communications antenna. Short but wide.

-Added AWPT Scimitar Antenna - Mid tech 'dish' antenna. 35Mm range, 120 degree arc.

-Added Remotetech definitions for original antennas:

-AN100 omni now has a 10Mm range. That size has to be good for something, nyeh?

-AA27-C omni now has a 7Mm range. Again, it's heavy.

-AM17 omni now has 2Mm range. Might buff to 2.5Mm same as communotron 16.

-Added functioning experiments to Sienno probe and N100 omni antenna.

Dang man, you are gonna kill my SDD.  I downloaded two days in a row when I gave in to get the white Mk3/4 stuff, then yesterday for the LRV which has been better than drugs...

You will be addicted to this mod in a great way....Just like I am.

On other notes, spent the evening working with the LRV Dev build... so far enjoyable.  I ended the night with a full J+ Class build (meaning build for JNSQ with Kerbalism and then see how much you can squeeze in)...  I got it ready for Lunar Orbit insertion.  Tomorrow hope to have some time to get some screenshots of LRV in use.

I have seen the WIP build guide and it is crisp I tell you.

Good to know. The cargo space in the LRV itself isn't intended for any of the parts - I put it in so people can use it to set up ALSEP stations that weren't directly next to the LM. The LRV bits should all be stuffed into the Q3 Cargo part that was added a few weeks ago, though iirc one or two need to go in the descent stage due to space limitations.

The RUD may be a mass or volume related.  I had seen your warning but took a chance anyway with two parts that should be Solar Wind Composition stick and the Color Reference stand.  I had it out a few times to the pad to check unpack and did not have any strange happenings.  *Still User be warned.... explosiveness may still occur.

APOLLO (edit; because even ETS says APOLLO) MLEM-CSL Laboratory Module is not a lab yet? Did I simply not notice the Lander Lab was missing lab abilities a few weeks ago? I launched on tonight that I built a few weeks ago, and am kind of disappointed. If it's not finished, it's not finished, I just wanna confirm if it's not finished.

Pretty sure that will be a working lab SOONTM .  But I would not expect much speed in the processing of science.  Given the limited facilities... And it is Dev branch, so at least we have a toy to tempt us for future possibilities....

Yes that's two S-II stages, because the top S-IV is planned to be used for Dres return. The bottom S-IV is actually a methalox stage powered by 5 NFLV Iguanadons. The top one is run by 7 J2-A2s.

The mission plan is to launch to orbit, finishing with the hydrolox S-II. Then, after transfer, the CM with the S-IV will do transposition and docking to the LM. The S-IV will then capture, sending the LM off to land on Dres (and in a follow-up, Minmus). After returning from the surface, the LM will re-dock with the CM, and be used as extra living area (and snack storage) after the S-IV is spent transferring back to Kerbin. Then the CSM will capture at Kerbin and reenter.

Fun. Maybe I over-built this, but oh well it's fun building big
