  1. In my mind I'm thinking of large, Aircraft Carrier style blast diverters. And really that tank farm is a disaster waiting to happen. A loose spanner, shot out by the 31 raptors puncturing a hole and fire. (Assuming those vertical tanks do actually store the fuel. I may be mistaken).
  2. IFT-1 - Big Damage. Required a complete re-think of all involved systems IF2-2 - Moderate Damage to the Test Stand, much reduced everywhere else IFT-3 - There was damage? (Sarcasm ). Mostly dents and dings. Am surprised there are no moves to build some protection for the tank farm, for example. At its rate, by IFT-5? the damage will be low enough, and SpaceX well enough versed in the way of the 3 R's. (Reduce Damage, Reuse parts and Recycle what they can).
  3. I would like to interject with the fuel bars suggesting total fuel capacity for the mission (not the total design capabilities).
  4. Thats Soyuz. A relatively imprecise, Parachute landing system. That is the size of a van. Light years from the pole of a Falcon 9 landing to within 10m of a target, retrorepulsivley. (Arguably the parachute makes it harder, but it all it does is makes go all over the place)
  5. Also, planes are powered. That mayyy come in useful Falcon 9: 6:1 ratio SH: 3:1 ratio Certainly a lot better
  6. Launch maybe. Landing is a hard pass into the dirt for me. The booster is too light with too little wind resistance. A dangerous combination.
  7. Age doesn't matter. I for one somewhat agree (for once)(IM not even American) with what the US government is doing. Yes, there is probably some lobby from American companies to try to regain a foothold that they lost, but I don't believe I'm mistaken when I say that TikTok has some, interesting, requests when accessing your phone (We have, ahem; decently accurate GPs data (not entirely sure on accuracy), all communications through the app (ok that's not bad, pretty normal really), the full contact list (for friends or something, but is that nessercary?), it can theoretically access other apps open at the same time, but there no recorded abuse of it (that we know of), run at startup (why?), read incoming badge notifications, install shortcuts. While the average teen does not give the slightest concern about security in the slightest (guess I'm an outlier ), Journalists should not have it on their phones, because there ARE recorded cases of data being assessed (They were trying to find the sources). So while banning it for the general public is probably anti-trust, its seeming promotion of anti-American material is probably problematic, and if ByteDance sells, at least PIPL and DPL are mostly defeated (Yes the data are stored but as a case in point earlier, they can still access it, and I would not be surprised to see if some copies are under Chinese law). TikTok isn't am active security risk, its a potential security risk that can and has be exploited.
  8. I would like to propose the possibility of the sem-failure of the final booster relight. The tanks were not fully loaded, even at launch, so there may not have been enough fuel to create a nice, clean, no-gas relight. Of course, those oscillations didn't help.
  9. Welcome to Australia, where whistleblower laws do exists but don't at the same time if you know what I mean.
  10. That's when I found that the plane had landed. I was trying to find if the plane had squawked a 7600 or something else which would signify why it landed earlier than expected. Luckily it wasn't a mechanical issue, it was a medical one, but the plane did land overweight and so they did have to check the airframe for damage, and had to be refuelled. It also did some FL36 at 922kmh which is pretty rapid compared to normal. Luckily it did not want anything bad, but the lack of information was not the nicest thing. (And how did you know it was 51L, is there a place of FL to find all planes that have deviated from flight).
  11. This is time-critical, but Flight QR899, with both of my parents, has diverted to CMB (Columbo, Sri Lanka). I can't find any news reports to confirm why they diverted, so does anyone know of any websites where I can find lists of either Pan Pan, Mayday or other emergency calls?
  12. For all the lock sports enthusiasts, locksmiths or anyone interested in the deception of mechanical locking devices. This thread is for questions and stating your crowning achievements. For me, Master Lock 45mm Excell "High Security" was the most difficult, mostly due to the tighter key way and stiff pins. If anyone owns and Lockwood 120/40, or a similar lock with a paracentric keyway, can someone explain how to access the back pins without lifting the front ones. Should I invest in TOK tensioners?
  13. @Hotel26 Will confirm this arvo if this is correct, but I have long noticed that it might just be. Our toilet is older, so it might be do with that, but holding either button dispels the same-ish amount of water.
  14. Assuming G&R are right, and that 34 Billion barrels of shale oil will ever be extracted from the Permian, we have about 900 ish million barrels until we reach 17 billion barrels. Typically, once 50% is achieved, growth sort of stops. Which is bad. For every extra 2 billion barrels of extra Ultimate recoverable reserves, you add a year, so the IEA's Technically recoverable reserves, which all already suspect because the IEA stated the number, means we have about 6.5 years of growth. It's probably in the ballpark of the TRR, but that doesn't mean it would be cheap.
  15. Oh gosh, don't get that train started. It's not as bad in Australia, but it's probably still possible Anyway, was listening to a Podcast where Adam Rozencwajc was the interviewee, and it cleared up this one problem that I didn't know how to solve for a long time. For those who don't know, Adam is part of a company called Goehring&Rozencwajc, which is an independent Natural Resources analysis company (I believe that is the role, at least). Recently, Adam went on a podcast with Peak Prosperity and talked about Oil. The key takeaway I took was how the IEA, either willingly or otherwise, has lied about their forecasts on Oil and Energy consumption. Their reasoning is as follows; - If technological advancements in the efficiency of energy use, then the overall usage of energy will decrease. However, this contradicts Jevon's paradox (According to Wikipedia, governments seem to have an implied history of ignoring this paradox), which is where resource use becomes more efficient, more is used, not less. Jevon's Paradox, then, is quite literally the EXACT opposite of what the IEA is saying. This answers my personal question of "Why does Peak Energy Demand just not make sense". After all, More people with more money = Buying more things, which requires energy. I don't know I'm so shocked, after all, governments and governmental agencies lie all the time. Maybe it has to do with the sheer and utter importance of energy in the modern economy. But I don't know. I'm repeating what was said elsewhere. I'm not qualified to talk about this.
  16. I think its because some fertilizers are made of animal waste. We use Chook poo for our garden because it is rich in good elements.
  17. Excel Question here; I have a number, 46. I also have a table, with 1-9 and a-f at the top and sides. The top row is for the first character, and the first column is for the second character. I want to look up the value that corresponds to that system, in Excel. For people familiar with S-Boxes, you may recognise what I am asking EDIT: I have now got the reference working. However, I can not directly reference the HEX values as Excel throws a Value Not Avaliable Error. It seems Match can not reference a cell with a formula in it. EDIT 2: Aha!. I needed a VALUE() around the cell I wanted to reference, but it doesn't work for Letters. Darn.
  18. Acceleration over time would slow down, right? Lasers get less powerful the further they are away. Or only in atmospheres (cos of diffraction, refraction, ect).
