Doesn\'t lengthening a solid rocket just increase the thrust? You would need to widen the engine to extend the thrust time.

I went outside to watch the launch, and I can tell you that that thing is bright!

uses mechjeb and damned robotics. It has no rcs so it has very limited maneuverability at slow speeds, but you only need a little bit of wind over the flaps to move it.
-
I made a Harrier like plane. It\'s quite maneuverable too and can perform STOL. However the draining of the RCS causes the center of mass to shift so you need to constantly adjust when in VTOL mode.

KSP Orbital Collision This isn\'t me, but I think this guy wins. -

This ship is still three engines, but it\'s the most efficient. It uses a powered decent method to land, this eliminated the heavy capsule decoupler.

Ultimate Munar Rocket

Give me a couple of days. -
That is great! I thought 10 tanks was the minimum, and I didn\'t even dream of landing on the mun without ASCS. You are a true rocket master!

This is the 10 tank mun lander. Fuel is extremely tight, so there isn\'t much room for course corrections. This is how I did it: 1. Launch full throttle straight up 2. Bank east 20 degrees at 11000m 3. Drop outer tanks when empty. 4. Bank flat east from 20000m-40000m 5. Cut engines when apogee is ~72000m 6. Full throttle when near apogee for circular orbit dropping inner tanks when empty. 7. Initiate TLI as soon as the mun rises from the horizon reaching an apogee of ~12Mm 8. Retro burn for orbit of ~20000m around mun 9. Retro burn for landing 10. Use ASAS and engine to lock craft straight up while tapping lightly on controls to scrub all remaining horizontal velocity. 11. Burn east until ~800m/s parallel to orbit of mun 12. Correct apogee to inside atmosphere 13. deploy parachute and burn engine near ground for gentle landing. When ASAS is on the lander responds very well to controls still, making it easy to precisely maneuver.

15 you say? Try 10.

10 fuel tanks - efficiency challenge

This craft won\'t even get off the ground with that stack order.
