  1. Of course you're the only one. I would never obsess about recovering every single piece and part and feel bad about dumping even a fairing. >.>
  2. Just my take on the subject, but how about this: Stupid Kerbals, instead of forgetting to eat, have a larger variance on when they eat. Sometimes they forget to eat, sometimes they forget that they HAVE eaten so they eat again. Smark Kerbals are more logical and have less variance. A 100% smart kerbal would almost always eat on time and properly ration the food. Cowardly Kerbals would panic as food reserves get lower and start to eat more/hoard food. Brave Kerbals would go without food longer when the food reserves begin to get low, allowing other kerbals to eat instead. This way your best crew would be Brave and Smart. They would be more predictable in food usage and would prolong a dwindling supply of snacks for just a bit longer.
  3. Oh no I didn't mean to imply the built in RCS engine could do it. I think that is just for getting the hell away from whatever you are abandoning (ship, station, etc). I was thinking that you could probably strap on one of the tiny probe engine/fuel tank combos though.
  4. It wouldn't take a lot of fuel to de-orbit something the size of the DERP.
  5. Eh, I need to refit them anyway. I wonder if I can make docking ports KAS-grab enabled/attachable.
  6. You have something wrong. Everything worked for me fine except that the wench does not move out with the boom. The crane arm does elevate and rotate just fine. Do the IR groups not show up for you at all when you click the IR toolbar button? I think the issue with the wench not moving with the boom is that IR needs an attachment node. Surface attached parts do not work well in my experience.
  7. I am both amused and repulsed by the idea of strapping full tanks of raw sewage to my rockets. Edit: As for old ships... I'll likely make the old hexcans KAS-grabbable so that I can pull them off my old ships before swapping. I normally make my life support containers detachable via docking ports for easy resupply but a few of my ships were built before I started doing that.
  8. Do you have any plans to use the firespitter texture switching function to declutter the parts list a bit by making tanks which can be swapped between various resources?
  9. I didn't know B.Dynamics RCS popped out automatically like that. Very neat. I like US though because I can KAS attach them to vessels. I have two ships in orbit which I call Variable-Payload platforms. They're mostly superstructure with some US wedge storage, crew accommodation, fuel storage and some high efficiency engines. I can swap out their payload with KAS, to include science instruments via the US wedges. Its very handy and fun to EVA and reconfigure a craft. Unfortunately when I built them I neglected to include any RCS, so some KAS attachable RCS wedges would be nice to have.
  10. I am 100% in favor of decluttering my part list! Please be sure to release this when you're done. My kerbals will be eternally grateful.
  11. Now make them tweakscale enabled and you can have just ONE part!
  12. Just a shot in the dark as I haven't read through the whole thread, have you considered a deployable RCS wedge? Doors open, RCS block slides out a bit. Integrated monoprop tank, etc. Bonus points if it can deploy itself when RCS is enabled and pack itself away when RCS is disabled.
  13. Doubt he has you blocked, and I wouldn't dwell on it if I were you. He likely considers the matter closed. Most of the community here seems pretty forgiving.
  14. I have used them just fine with some stock solar panels and battery packs as well. If you like I'll post some shots of my 'Hopper' single-seat exploration vehicle later on. It's all stock as far as power production goes.
  15. I don't think it is SSTO out of the box, and there is no included craft file. You probably COULD make it an SSTO though. I will do some testing when I get home. What are your requirements for "SSTO freighter" as far as payload to orbit? And do you use FAR? DRE?
  16. Have you checked out the exploration pack? I've been using that cute little cockpit as a one-man extended EVA pod/people mover. With a bit of RCS it can range pretty far. Fair enough.
  17. I get where you're coming from here. I work in an IT field myself where I have to deal with all sorts of clients, some knowledgeable, some not so much, and some with just enough knowledge to really make a mess. When dealing with clients and customers, we are nice and helpful to them because it minimizes frustration and time required, and because they are paying us or our company. In the modding scene, modders are doing work for free, creating content for your consumption. They get little or no recompense for this outside of 'feeling good' because people like their content and use it. You say RD 'acted like a child' but you had an attitude from your first post onwards which was pretty clearly negative. See that? You've come into the thread already fired up, KNOWING that you are right and that the modder is wrong. He is doing it the wrong way and you are telling him "Really? Why are you doing it this stupid way? Listen to me instead!" and the kicker is that you were wrong, the numbers are configurable. RD's response to your post was to tell you that he hadn't taken offense but that you had come off as quite rude. He told you the reason for the DLL, you apologized, and he said no worries. He told you at that point that you can in fact change the life support numbers in a config. So please do not go around calling other people out for 'childish' behavior until you check your own attitude at the door. This is free content, not a paid product. It is under an open license which you can fork and change any aspect of yourself. Polite suggestions are, I'm sure, appreciated and given due consideration but attitudes like yours will just foster hostility and ill will.
  18. Out of curiosity, are you playing a science/career game? If so you'll need to go research the new parts in the R&D Edit: I just tried it out myself. The KAS wench attached to the boom does not move when the boom is extended.
  19. I think we've wandered off topic. I could debate the merits of manned space exploration all day but this isn't the forum for that.(NPI)
  20. We can absolutely go past the moon in real life. We do not because of budget and safety concerns. We've sent unmanned probes everywhere in the solar system. There are sound plans to send people to mars and beyond, the primary constraint is money.
  21. That is what happens when you apply realism to only one aspect of an unrealistic game. You have a realistic aerodynamics model but not realistic rockets or planetary scale. Use the same rocket with an earth-sized kerbin and you wouldn't get to orbit with just a single SRB.
  22. For experimental parts, you can discourage part spam by simply multiplying the cost for any experimental part by a certain amount. Experimental parts should be expensive by their very nature, after all. You'd be less inclined to abuse a contract to test the nuclear engine if that engine cost 5x what it normally would.
