  1. Harvester mentioned how it works in a thread in general recently. I forget which specifically, but I think he said it's simply a little flag in the part's CFG that lets the game know which tech node it belongs to. Or something like that. So either the modder or the user would have to customize the mod parts individually to fit into a certain tech level and obviously some mods will give you powerful things too early or others might give you mediocre things too late, but eventually things will probably balance out. Either way, there'll still be sandbox mode. Things like money and R&D shouldn't apply to sandbox 'cause...well, that's the point of sandbox mode while restrictions and progression are why people want career mode.
  2. Moving about between space station modules is something that's planned. Using hatches to go between parts all in IVA perspective Can't wait~ But mostly, I can't wait 'till they just add more depth
  3. They're going to do weather at some point, but there's more important core mechanics they've got to develop first. But I think we can all agree that it'll be very exciting when wind, storms, rain and other such weather effects will be added whenever they get around to it
  4. A LOT of these planetary suggestions have already been mentioned by the development team, especially things like more distant planets, at least one more gas giant, a volcanic planet and so on. They even showed off a screenshot of the volcanic planet once and it looked hardcore. In addition to that, they'd mentioned having a few other solar systems just beyond the kerbol system that you'd use FTL warp technologies to reach. That was the endgame, exploring those other solar systems. Beyond those, there were supposed to be procedurally generated solar systems, probably using premade planet types with some kind of resize, tilt change and/or change to the overall properties of them. Maybe they'd actually planned on fully procedurally generated planets, I don't know. But that's a long, long ways away, if they haven't dropped it, even. So who knows what we've got in store for us in the future? Lots of good stuff, that's for sure.
  5. They won't include weapons or sentient aliens into the game. They've said so before and we're not supposed to suggest such things. However, I remember Scott Manley saying how cool it would be to have to assemble like a stargate near Kerbin using parts you found on a handful(or more) of the planets and/or moons. Then you could use this stargate-like orbital structure to warp to another solar system. Then I guess from there, you'd have to find an already built stargate to get to the next one or possibly to get back, I don't know. But warping between solar systems is the planned endgame for KSP. There's supposed to be a few solar systems that're prebuilt so everyone's first warp adventures will be more or less comparable...then beyond that there's supposed to be procedurally generated solar systems. Of course, they could always dump that idea in favor of something more simple. I guess I wouldn't know about that. Would be really sad, though. Other people have suggested doing special science stuff at the munoliths and things like that, just for a nice boost to your science data and we already know that we'll be able to collect rock samples for whatever. Returning them should give us a nice boost to our science data progression whatevers. So that'll be good. Beyond that, they'd talked about scanning and mining for resources but that's a lower priority at the moment 'cause they're working on more fundamental career mode stuff for the next couple patches. Either way, more things that add depth to the game...be it more functional parts, more career mechanics, more things to do in space(especially in EVA or expanded IVA) or more ways to customize my kerbals and/or missions(colors, suits, decals, patches, etc...) the better. More depth is always welcome, so long as they introduce it gradually through career mode and the tech tree for those of us who get overwhelmed by huge part lists and what-not...which is a big reason why they switched to developing career mode when they did XD
  6. The PAX thing also showed that certain tech nodes did actually unlock parts as well. I have no idea what would be the very first list of parts. I would imagine just one engine, one or two sizes of fuel tanks and the small command module with the smallest parachute, perhaps and the simplest decoupler. Then a science part or two for doing orbital science or something. That would be a pretty okay starting point, I think. We'll probably start with a lot more than that, though...so who knows
  7. I don't have any ideas for myself 'cause I don't know a whole lot about real-world spacewalks or ploppable experiments...or anything else we've done in real life EVAs. I can say, however, that a lot of this stuff SHOULD be implemented into the game at some point. I expect that they will be, but in case they're not...we need the developers to know how important it is @.,@ I'm always in favor of features and parts that add more depth to the game, more things to do or more ways to customize your missions, kerbals or crafts. It's all just good for the game, I feel.
  8. I have a tendency to want my kerbonauts to survive missions, but I'm also not clever enough to build any sensible safety or abort precautions in case something goes wrong, so I tend to rely on the revert flight thing. Oddly, I'd LOVE to see the revert flight thing have some limitation on it in career mode so I can't always save my kerbonauts even after they've become a fine, green mist. It'd certainly force me into designing smarter rockets....or at least rockets that're above my current level of kerbal engineering XD
  9. I've seen a screenshot of one before, I think it just happens in peoples' games and they take note but don't really talk much about it. Maybe. Or maybe I just haven't seen people talking about such things XD Either way, I do quite like that those events happen. Makes the universe feel just a bit more real. I don't think I've seen one in my game just yet, though. Then again, It's probably happened and I didn't notice 'cause I don't go looking for them >_>
  10. I don't know about more intermediately sized tanks, radial or not...but at some point we're going to be able to manually fill our tanks with whatever we want. SO, you'll definitely be able to fill some tanks with only oxidizer. A lot of what you suggested seems to be in the pipeline somewhere but much of it is probably very low priority. Lower than bigger career mode features, at least. As for the spaceplane bits or wings or whatever, we'll definitely see all of the spaceplane parts get remade at some point. They're just old and don't really fit with the visual style of the game anymore. I think they're the oldest parts right now, actually. Been there since .15 without any major improvements or anything. So whenever we see an aerodynamic update, we'll most certainly see spaceplane parts get reworked too. Who knows what they'll include at that point. Might be crazy.
  11. This has actually been discussed before. Not too long ago, now that I think about it. It's probably been brought up even before that. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/43440-Mission-Control-ChalkBoard?highlight=chalkboard There it is. Some good thoughts and stuff came up in that thread, I'd say give it a read. Just a couple days before that thread was created, I remember seeing whiteboards talked about...though briefly, I think in another thread about the mission control building. Or something like that. I forget 'cause it was a while ago now >.>
  12. I'd really like to see something like ISA Mapsat in the vanilla experience. Just 'cause it'd add something to do in space. More things to do is always beneficial to the KSP experience XD Especially if they expand the functionality of it in ways this thread discusses or otherwise. It's all good. More science, more data, more functional parts, more customization! I'll always approve of such suggestions @.,@
  13. This has been suggested and actually the developers have even mentioned a KSP museum as a potential feature to showcase your achievements in the future. I think it's still a maybe, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did add the museum at some point. First will be the knowledgebase, though...which is kind of like an interactive encyclopedia you seem to access from the map view. I suppose you'll be filling that out with science data and what-not. Maybe. I don't know >_> Would be nice, though. Anyways, Harvester mentioned something about camera arrays once, though it might've just been him thinking out loud about something modders could make. He seems to think out loud sometimes. But I'd love to see a little handheld(or chest-mounted, like real life) cameras for missions and such. I'd even be okay with placing cameras or having them on probes, even using probe cameras in place of an IVA view. But such things have indeed been suggested before. Let's just hope the developers like them enough to implement them into the vanilla experience at some point.
  14. I'd be okay with that. Seems to mesh well with that whole crew training thing that they'd talked about oh so long ago and may or may not have dropped for whatever reason.
  15. The fustek station parts expansion. They look amazing. KASPAR packs just 'cause I want to grab containers, open up little airlocks and put the supplies in there like a dubmwaiter. Then take out the waste products, load them onto my garbage capsule and drop it into the atmosphere to burn up. Just like real life. TAC fuel balancer...or a better version of it or something. It kinda bothers me how slow and imprecise it is in vanilla to move fuel about between parts or sections of a ship. Magic Smoke Industries' stuff 'cause I likes me some robotic parts, hinges and spinny wasters and stuff....not to mention the thing they're working on with landing gear, where you can raise and lower them individually. Kerbal Attachment System 'cause it just adds more depth to EVA, grabbing things, hookin' stuff up to other stuff. A game like this can always benefit from having more depth of gameplay. There's a few more, but my response is gettin' kinda long...not that that's shut me up before, but whatevs. Wee~
  16. They already showed the internal of what I would guess was the mission control building. Granted, that was quite a while ago and it was for a promotional video for the game....but they might recycle that or use that as a starting point for what they implement into the game at some point. Either way, it should be good.
  17. I get the feeling that this...or at least, drunkrobot's ploppable science is planned. I mean, the first thing we did on the moon in real life was drop a bunch of crap there. Then we took and dropped more crap up there over the years. Would be a shame if that aspect of operating a space program were left out, especially with the epic expansion to science we're getting in the next update.
  18. I think decals were planned at some point. I mean, there used to be a decals tab(that was empty) in the VAB not too long ago. It's probably just a rather low priority. Then again, maybe they just gave up on that dream. Either way, people are always in favor of ideas that promote customization of...just about anything you'd want to customize. Kerbonaut suits/colors, part colors, decals, flags, promotions and so on. I know I'm always a hundred percent in favor of such features or suggestions.
  19. If nothing else, we'll probably get shuttle bays that open and close at some point. The person who made the B9 Aerospace mod works for SQUAD now, so you can expect some quality spaceplane parts at some point. Sadly, that won't be 'till they rework the aerodynamics, most likely. In the mean-time, it'd be cool if they added some robotic arms or parts to make your own for doing science(collecting samples, poking holds in the dirt for chemical analysis and so on). Though, I think robotic stuff is on the what not to suggest list. So...I don't know. Ignore what I just said about rover arm bits >_>
  20. This has been suggested a number of times and in a variety of different ways. Computer simulations where you punch in weather, gravity and atmospheric parameters or select from planetary presets for testing craft files and/or subassemblies(landers, rovers and so on), simple wind tunnels for aerodynamic testing or even just test courses somewhere around KSC, perhaps behind a rover/lander/payload assembly building. Seems a rather popular suggestion, one way or another and I'd be down for it I suppose. Though maybe it should require a fair bit of science data to unlock it via the R&D mechanic. That is, if it's some advanced computer simulation type of thing.
  21. We're going to have an observatory, the developers have talked about it before. That said, I agree that there should be at least one orbital telescope...or perhaps telescope parts to assemble our own. Hex shaped reflectors, for example, that make it easier to spot distant things(like solar systems and small objects) if you use a lot of them on a really big telescope. Or something. Maybe having a small, medium and large prebuilt orbital telescope based on real-world equivalents would be better >_> Either way, can't wait 'till they get this up and running in career mode
  22. I don't know anything about what they've got planned at the moment, but in the past Harvester has talked about missions being entirely supplemental to your game experience. Basically, you'd be doing whatever you want to do, like flying a bunch of missions to Mun and the game would give you missions that encourage that behavior. Then I think he said there might also be a couple missions that help you advance your technology and understanding of the game mechanics thus encouraging you to widen your experience by traveling to other planets. Not necessarily telling you to go there but certainly giving you incentive to spread your wings a bit. But there's been a lot of suggestions as to how kerbonauts would make their money aside from missions. Lots of good suggestions like selling tickets for kerbals to view some of your launches(perhaps certain specific/historic missions would feature this ability), mining for rare materials(basically a resource that only exists to be sold, I guess) and shipping it back to KSC or near enough to it to salvage the materials at low cost and high profit, using a progression themed or fully customizable museum to generate positive feedback and public opinion for your space program, thus increasing funding and so on. Just a lot of really good ideas percolating around in the minds of forumgoers everywhere. I like this loan idea, too
  23. Not to mention the fact that if you refuel on a planet with low gravity or a much less dense atmosphere than that of Kerbin, you'd be able to get much farther with that same amount of fuel. That's partly why people like Kethane so much. Other than that, It just gives you something to do in space...there's always room for more things to do in space in KSP and if it seems like they'll overwhelm us with too much complexity, thin it out via the tech tree and give us missions that explain the mechanics so long as they're not too tedious or are skippable. More depth to gameplay is always welcome, I say. Bring it on
  24. There's not going to be xbox/steam achievements, no. There will, however, some means of showcasing your accomplishments in the game. They'd talked about a museum that might house successful crafts or just showcase your achievements in some slightly meaningful way and on top of that, there's the knowledgebase which seems to function like an encyclopedia that you fill out by doing science and discovering planets and such. So you will see progress and notice it throughout your career. You just won't get achievements popping up through steam or whatever ;P That said, the endgame for career mode was said to be faster than light travel...using some kind of warp drive to travel to a solar system that you'd discovered via...I don't know, orbital telescopes or something(which I would LOVE to build and use). There were supposed to be a couple predefined solar systems near the Kerbol system that would be the same for everyone so you could share those first FTL trip stories and experiences with each other using specified planets and such, like we have now. THEN there were supposed to be procedurally generated solar systems beyond those near to kerbin, I guess just to give you more things to do. But who knows if they've changed their minds on that stuff. Sounded really good, truth be told and I'd love to see that type of endgame for KSP. Just seems perfect.
  25. They're planning, as far as I'm aware, to have tasks for kerbonauts including but not necessarily limited to doing science, repairing things with at least one toolbox part(not sure what all you'll be able to repair), collect and/or examine samples...I guess rocks and stuff on the ground, strut parts together using a strut gun, float about freely between parts of, say, a space station using hatches and things, remove their helmets regardless of where they might be and someday you'll be able to train your kerbonauts to be better at doing some tasks. They mentioned the crew training thing a long while ago so their goals might've changed on how that should work but I remember there being mention of kerbonauts being trained to do certain menial tasks or maneuvers on their own, though not as good as if you'd done it yourself. I'm sure they've got more EVA/IVA tasks in mind, but I guess we'll have to wait and see what's up. Either way, the more EVA/IVA activities they wind up adding, the happier I'll be. I"d even like to use my kerbonauts(either manually or autonomously via crew training) to clean solar panels and things and perform general maintenance to increase or maintain performance on various parts(batteries, solar panels, engines, etc...). Would just be fun, I think and if they had crew training for maintenance, those that find such things monotonous wouldn't necessarily have to worry about it as much. On top of that, wear and tear reducing performance or efficiency of certain parts isn't necessarily random failures, just reduced efficiency necessitating maintenance. Just something to fill out game time and add another layer to crew skills. I'd love it, at least >.>
