  1. Have you tried running a clean install? It could also be a graphical or physics glitch. You land your desert lander elsewhere?
  2. If you wish rescue, there are two options to partake. First is the legit rescue. An extra planetary rescue is entirely a finesse mission typically leapfrogging and controlled maneuvers until you can match. You want to plan for two parts. One, a stage with fuel for the outer planetary portion and then one entirely for getting back. The getting back is also your abort in case cannot catch vessel to rescue from. Just get close enough to Eva. Leapfrogging consists of small maneuvers and orbit changes to slowly work yourself closer. If ahead of target, slightly increase orbit so you can intercept. Reverse if behind. Just watch orbit path until you tweak enough for non map flight. The second way is a bit of cheating to refuel your craft but I will only post said info if asked since some people would rather not have the temptation of file modding.
  3. I run a system similar to Katateochi there with sepatrons to blast out and slightly curve up and away. The cockpit and parachute is hotkeyed for deployment once cleared. It is capable of a successful escape during high speed runway failure.
  4. Aah, somebody revived the revival thread. My biggest fail was shorty after Duna was discovered and I had previously landed a rocket to discover atmosphere. So naturally, I want to fly a space plane there. Complex, awesome staging and capable of a space plane landing back to kerbal afterwards. All tests showed green and did it with style. So I went to duna and here I am before I attempt my landing. Take a close look at my main landing engines and see if you can tell a flaw in my design... There was many a save and quickload as I tried to get down before I discovered the jet engines don't work in duna's atmosphere. So I quickloaded once more and resigned myself to just holding stylishly in orbit....
  5. Lars is a key Kerbal of mine as well! I copy him into my number one kerbal position for each of the new expansions. Is leading my science program.
  6. I have done that sometimes as well. Alot more since transfering and placing crews is easier. When I do it, I have my main drive portion high on the rocket with the lander underneath it and it's drive engines radial. Keeps it low and wide. With the can, I actually have a top mounted fuel tank that pre-fills the radials. Jettison it away when getting low.
  7. Maybe I missed how to do it, but something I have been sort of role play irking at. Landing and atmospheric entry with my science bays open! Would be nice if the doors could be manually shut after experiment without having to transmit or ditch the results. Little red light outside to say has been used?
  8. Well, I read about half, but then decided didn't have time to read every single one. But here is my two bits. When you think about the arguements, there are two points to science. In it's environment, and in the lab. If you analyse a rock on Duna, you see how it is under that light, atmosphere, gravity, etc. But might not know the composition properly. The versa for when it is in the lab. So in my opinion, there should be a couple parts to science and they should be separate to eachother. You transmit, but that goo/sample etc is still kept. Bonus points for getting it back. Tranmitting in the future could become more complex (unless is. Havent done much travel on this new science yet) by requiring communication lines and satellites meaning that a high science mission to Duna could be much more complex with narrow windows of opportunity in which to transmit.
  9. There is another way that works pretty well and commonly used by me. I will use a tri-coupler with docking ports on the ends to make sure everything squares up nicely. Here is a pic of a big ship I was assembling. Sorry if not clearly visible, but you can see I use the dual couplers for sidemounting, and closer to the drives, You should be able to see the tricouplers.
  10. I make a plan of the various stages I need to do to achieve my goal. Then I work backwards testing each part. This way, if things start going bad, I can abort and return home.
  11. Oh, this one still around? I got distracted in mine, and forgot to finish it XD. Have my assembly enroute.
  12. I my main ships in orbit around kerbin, ready to move to a permanent assembly location. Hopefully have this done tomorrow and ready to accept.
  13. I think I had an errored occillation once before. I think it is a bug. Try giving a blip to the time lapse which disables the physics sim momentarily. Doing this usually stabilizes mine at which point is typically will control normal. Also, sometimes try hopping back to space centre momentarily to reload the model.
  14. Thanks for the input. I was hoping to modify the stock landing gears to have a properly matched turning/powered nose/tail gear for taxi. As for the other, I have a hero Kerbonaut that I wanted to give a befitting unique colored uniform.... hmm... sounds like a suggestion for the crew part.
  15. First question. I am looking at doing some work to stock parts but am unsure of what software can be used to open the .mu and .mbm files for the models I wish to add a bit more function to but am wondering what programs can open it. I assumed that blender could open the 3d models, but that does not seem to be the case unless I need a plugin for it. Second, is I have a hero kerbal that I wish to have a unique space suit for. Anybody know where in the code suit colors are assigned and where the texture map for the suit color can be found?
  16. It is a space plane, just not an SSTO space plane. Couple of side boosters and it space planes nicely ^.^
  17. Most main boosters that are used post orbit have small secondary engines and probe control for a guided return when main boosters done.
  18. Welcome aboard! As for what there is, plenty more coming! The excitement is just getting started!
  19. Hey, I would be up for a possible space race. Have any more info on how you want to do it? I think sharing screenies of challenges would be a good way to go on meeting criteria. Sounds like a fun thing for a weekend. Not quite a challenge and might be better in general, but the idea of live issued challenges is cool!
  20. I used to love doing the no atmo close orbits. Havent done it in a while. Well, off to Tylo with a low orbit probe sometime soon here I guess!
  21. Nah ya dont :-) I have beeneverywhere without through trial and failure. Now I can prety much hash any craft together for anywhere based on experience which leads to topic of thread. 1. Develop reliable kerbal escape system. I even have stock spaceplane eject. 2. Test critical landed equipment designs for function. This is landers and vehicles. Etc. 3. Step move to destination. If not going to succeed, Turn around. 4. Stage rescue missions for stranded kerbals.
  22. Oh, there are so many mistakes I caught after uploading. Is horrible. I watched it like 5 times before uploading, then there was that and the first news border messed up. With a 6 hour upload, I decided to just leave it.
