i think if you turn down the particle count and shaders you will get a big improvement during liftoff.

Asus G75 has an i7-3600 with a Nvidia GT 650 2gb dedicated card. They run about $1200. That being said i am currently running on an I7-2600k @ 4.4ghz, 8gb ram, and two 6870's with 2gb and still suffer from random lag spikes in the game where it is unplayable.

So does anyone have a clue how to mod the crew?

Does anyone know what file/files i need to edit in order to modify the kerbal booster pack... i kinda want to make the Kerbal booster pack into a jet pack and mod the values so i can actually fly on kerban
