  1. OP, of course they are over-dramatizing the whole thing. That said, a bit of over-scaring (for a lack of a better term) the common folk is a good way to keep them safe. The actual windchill factor does depend greatly on the clothing you are wearing. Heck, just a week ago, down where I am, a difference between wearing three outer layers which were non-windproof, and wearing just one or two that were, meant a difference between... did you expect "LIFE AND DEATH"??? Well, no. But if you spend more than a couple of hours outside, it did make a difference between catching a cold and not catching that. And of course, if you were caught outside without the chance to get warm, that becomes dangerous in about 6 hours. Which means you cannot just stay out in the wind and cold for one night and expect to stay healthy. You CAN, however, stay quite safe with enough clothing if you find a place with no wind. If you can light a small fire where you stay, you'll be good, too. I haven't lived outside for many years. I now have a home, a family, a job, all that stuff. I do remember, however, my younger years, when I had to deal with all this weather thing. Hence my opinion. Be safe. Find a windless place. Wear 4-5 layers at least. Light a fire when you can. You will be okay. Oh yeah, pray to the deity of your choice, it helps : )
  2. Umm, nice, thanks for the advice : D
  3. I just regularly go 610km circular. That is enough for a full time warp (600+). The extra 10 km helps when your stations orbit gets skewed a bit due to the craft docking/departing.
  4. Kindly edit your original post, there will be an option to change your thread capiton to "Answered". This way I won't have to read it again, only to realize you don't need advice anymore. Thanks : )
  5. Personally, the hardest thing for me in the career mode is not enough tree to cover with all the science I can get. I'd really like some more stuff, or maybe a reduction of the science points, so that I have to work harder. Honestly, currently science is way too easy to get. I do appreciate the way it is set up though.

  7. Yeah, right. Don't expect much ado from the community here though. We are but a simple bunch of users, quite happy to run this on whatever this runs on. Not to say you cannot find any like-minded people here.... Fat chance though.
  8. Thanks Lahha. Been thinking of compiling those myself, those are really needed (wish they were built into the game. So far I just keep a notebook with those. I'll check yours out, will probably use them from now on. Even though nothing beats a notebook and lead pencil, a ready form is always nice : ) Thank you!
  9. Google is your friend (yep) Search string: "youtube kerbal orbital" You are welcome : )
  10. Yep. Really good visuals, for a game. Having played all of the Elder Scrolls (yes, right from the Arena, throughout), have to say this new piece is good enough. My favorite is still Morrowind though. It is all in the atmosphere. Morrowind had the best of that outlandish feel, yet so understandable from a humans point of view. That's the beauty: create something that captivates the user with the look, yet give said user a lot of stuff he can associate with and understand. I vote for Morrowind : ) A retired Redoran general, at your service.
  11. Been to Dres once (with an unmanned probe too). Nothing to see there, just did a mission for science. This small horrible spit of rock... I only hope it will become a part of an asteroid belt in future versions.
  12. The game has different "help modes", ranging from every switch that you have to hit popping up with its panel AND highlighted - to the mode when you have to read the teletype and go and do what is needed at the right moment. And as about starting from the VAB, I think there was a time compression in that stage that let you get to launch reasonably quickly. Not sure, this was so long ago... : )
  13. As a life-long cat person, I applaud you : ) Now, That yellow (I'd make it orange) ribbon idea is great! Wish it was made into a law.
  14. For some reason, those two phrases don't seem like they are coming from the same person. All coders that I have the honor to be friends with do not reek of elitism.
  15. I'd rather have the transmission stop when out of power, so that I can resume it at later time, after recharging the batteries. And no loss - I finish the whole transmission, I get full credit for it.
  16. Well, Squad keeps its developments under wraps (as far as any next version is concerned). So get ready for a surprise! Personally, the 23 was very good, so I am just going to sit and wait. That said, the best moment for me (as of this game) was when I just left for half a year and came back to learn that 23 was out. Good things come to those who wait : )
  17. That is just beautiful. Ever thought of taking up writing, sir?
  18. Welcome! Thought I might offer a tip or three : ) In career mode, it is best to start with manned rocket launches and landings in different Kerbal biomes. Data from those will be enough to carry you along the most important branch of the tech tree, namely, the one that unlocks MOAR (ahem)... more of the scientific instruments. Don't neglect the spaceport area, it consists of three biomes, you will get science (after recovering your capsules) from: -Launchpad -Runway -KSC (any point around the space center which is not a launchpad or runway) For more info, look here: http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Biome The sky is the limit : ) or... maybe it is not! P.S. There is another biome, called Kerbal Shores, just outside of the space center. Also, if you head west a bit, there is a Grasslands biome, and a bit further towards the mountains, Highlands biome. One can reach those easily with a small tank to set you off and one parachute to set you down. Don't forget to do both an EVA report and a Surface Sample.
  19. Okay, I am just going to dumb it down for the noob. No offence, please. We've all been there. 1. Make a craft consisting of a capsule, that is it. You are not going anywhere. Launch. Have Jeb file a report (rightclick on capsule, "crew report"), then get him out (EVA), let him take a sample from the launchpad. File an EVA report from the Launchpad too. If you have some 2 minutes to spare, get off the Launchpad (after returning to the capsule and storing the sample and the EVA report), get another sample (and EVA) from "KSC". Store that too. If you are feeling greedy, run over to the Runway and take a sample (and an EVA) from there. Return. 2. Develop your scientific sensors branch first. Rinse and repeat with more scientific instruments. 3. Launch a capsule with mat lab (you should have it by now), the Goo and the rest (you will have at least a thermometer). Do the same stuff with it on the launchpad. On the runway. In between. 4. Make your full instrument suite, make sure your pilot can get in/out of the capsule (I usually did it with the capsule low down, matlab on top.) Chutes, the works. Plop that on top of a (very) modest rocket, shoot for the pole. And then the deserts. The full list of biomes can be found in the KSP wiki. By the end of all this you should be able to just proceed the way you want. A long high munar orbit ? With like 12 Gravioli (and a few other ones) strapped to it? and a Goo or four? And a few Matlabs? All geared to return and parachute into Kerbin atmosphere after they've done all their tasks? As in "Over Kerbin", "Over Kerbin up High", "Over Mun (insert biome here), "<Biome here>in space just over Mun. Now, that's a probe. Oh yeah, make sure you have a an astronaut to collect all that stuff and store it in the capsule and return it back. That is it in a nutshell. Must give you some idea. Best of luck!
