  1. Rotate them so the fairings fire in a safe direction?
  2. In a shock move today, Aegis Defence Services has deployed nearly half of their holdings to the Jool system. Aegis Defence Services is a private orbital security company who hire their services out for the protection or destruction of orbital holdings of other companies. While Aegis do not have their own construction facilities, they do have a small but highly competent R&D branch focused on designing military grade armed drone vessels. Of their current holdings, Aegis has deployed a fleet consisting of a Needle light squadron, a Guerrilla heavy strike craft, a Charon torpedo boat and the Agamemnon, one of their 2 manned drone control vessels. It is unknown at this time whether the fleet was hired by Spiritwolf or Hanland, or indeed both of them. Needle Light Fighter The Needle is a light drone equipped with 8 weaponized tungsten rods for penetrating light armor and is deployed in a squadron of 4. PoT: http://imgur.com/a/C7qIz Guerrilla Heavy Strike Craft The Guerrilla Strike craft is designed for attacking enemy supply lines, not enemy vessels. The guerrilla deploys with a berthing containing spare fuel and 12 extra octo torpedoes (for a total of 15) and is equipped with heavy armor, allowing it to strike its target and disengage while weathering the enemy counterattack. The Guerrilla has 8 emergency thrusters allowing it to function even if the main engine is destroyed. PoT: http://imgur.com/a/lDwIh Charon Torpedo Boat The Charon is designed for one thing and one thing only: destroying a much larger heavily armored vessel with no regards for its own survival. The Charon mounts 6 Solid Rocket Boosters fitted with a heavily reinforced prow to increase armor penetration and has similar emergency thrusters to the Guerrilla. (torpedoes fired in symmetrical pairs of 2 with 1,2,3 keys, sets of 3 with 4 and 5 and all 6 with 6. NOT RECOMMENDED to fire more than 3 at once) PoT: http://imgur.com/a/ljbyB Agamemnon: Deep Range Drone Control Vessel The sole purpose of the Agamemnon is to provide control of the drone vessels without the 5 minute signal delay from Kerbin, and is the only manned class of vessel in the Aegis fleet. The Agamemnon is capable of deploying 4 short range relay probes around laythe, leaving laythe orbit for a more distant and less contested moon, then deploying a pair of long range relay probes. With a single launch, the Agamemnon establishes full communication around 2 separate moons, then uses that to control the entire fleet from relative safety. The ship itself is only armed with 4 smart missiles, and has no armor. (The launch stage required to get 6 satellites and a moderate sized vessel not only into orbit, but to jool, laythe and then tylo is a staggering 1000 parts. Load it at your own risk. Persistence file has all probes deployed) PoT: http://imgur.com/a/BlaKc All craft files and individual persistence files: http://www./folder/kmv0higml46c0/Aegis_Defence_Fleet The Agamemnon is technically non functional as currently probes require no remote control, but it didn't feel right to deploy a whole drone fleet without a control ship anyway.
  3. The point is to prove it can get there so Macey doesn't have to. If you just give the delta-v number he has to check it, if you demonstrate the ability to get to laythe (and thus everywhere between kerbin and jool) he doesn't.
  4. Showing that the ship is capable of going to Laythe means it also has the ÃŽâ€V to be used at Eve, Duna and Dres or any of the moons in between. Showing the ship getting to Low Kerbin Orbit means it can only be used in Low Kerbin Orbit.
  5. Do people just not realise they are supposed to show evidence of getting to LAYTHE orbit?
  6. Winglets (Bac9 retextured the horrible green one, btw) or reaction wheels on the radial tanks in the problematic part of the launch stage.
  7. Apparently satisfied with the performance of the last KC-17 they purchased to carry spare ammunition, spiritwolf has requisitioned another KC-17 to bring a supply of assorted modular components to Laythe for field repairs. This KC-17, dubbed the Warehouse, carries numerous modular spare parts from extra cockpits to power generators and even emergency engines. Additionally, it is mounted with 4 utility drones designed to transfer modules from the warehouse to the target, each is equipped with both 0.5 and 1m docking ports and an internal power reserve. The complete list of modules is as follows: 2 0.5m inline monopropellant tanks, 2 0.5m inline probe cores, 2 sets of 0.5m inline batteries and solar panels, 2 0.5m xenon containers with attached Ion engine, 2 1m inline monopropellant tanks, 2 1m inline reaction wheels, 2 1m probe cores, 2 sets of 1m inline batteries and solar panels, 2 1m liquid fuel tanks with attached engines, 2 MKII cockpits and 2 MK1 command pods. Each module has an appropriately sized docking port at each end for modular repair or construction. Additionally, the KC-17 arrived at Laythe with a moderate supply of fuel and monopropellant, and once unloaded it has numerous spare docking ports for assorted utility roles. 8. How many of those orange tanks are full by the time the Cetus reaches Laythe?
  9. It's not that, the problem is the company I have been using specializes in orbital and interplanetary delivery systems as well as autonomous unmanned utility vehicles, so to have suddenly designed a manned fighter would mean a complete re-write of the company.
  10. I have just completed a Laythe capable heavy fighter, but there is no justification for my company to have built or deployed a fighter. I can now either make a new company solely for this submission, which I don't want to bother doing, or I can give the design to someone else to submit for their company if anyone is interested. Trident class heavy fighter: Armament: 12 standard torpedoes, torpedo engines are activated by the 1,3,5,7 keys and deployed with the 2,4,6,8 keys. Features: Nuclear and Ion engines for large effective range, but at a slow acceleration. Deploys with its own habitation and berthing instead of relying on support vessels. Has 3 inline reaction wheels granting fast turning rate without using valuable RCS. Has a secondary probe core for use when the cockpit is destroyed/ejected. Cockpit can jettison from the fighter, deorbit and safely land on laythe. Another cockpit can later be docked in place. Action groups and other notes: Weapon groups noted above 9: toggles solar panels 0: toggles solar panels, ion engines and nuclear engine When jettisoning the cowling on the fighter's engine, retract all panels to the safe position to prevent collisions. RCS cannot be refueled from the berthing, rely on the reaction wheels whenever possible. The ion engines are not powerful enough to accelerate the fighter at a meaningful rate, they are meant to be used in conjunction with the main NERVA in order to increase fuel efficiency. Berthing has room for pilot plus 3 extra kerbals, fuel not used in the interplanetary transfer can be used to refuel the fighter between missions. Once the fuel is depleted the engines can be decoupled revealing a large docking port. Deployed fighter at Laythe. Proof of travel: http://imgur.com/a/wBlnq Fighter plus lifting stage and transfer stage: http://www./download/nir1crd1ocazeef/Trident.craft Fighter and habitation (no interplanetary engines attached): http://www./download/tyvz35637jruyv7/Trident_Payload.craft Feel free to take the design and submit it for your company or modify it as you see fit.
  11. First craft with 0.21, I have to say the new SAS is incredible. With the recent boom in the commercialization of space, enormous levels of debris are being left in orbit. Worries have begun to arise that unless serious measures are taken, Kerbin's orbit may achieve Kessler Syndrome and permanently ground the entire Kerbal race. Given this, KerbComm has been working on a prototype automated salvage vehicle designed to retrieve hazardous debris. The KC-122 Automated Salvage Vehicle Prototype, affectionately dubbed Janitor, is a second generation salvage vehicle prototype, designed to rendezvous with debris and dock a probe core with it allowing remote control of wreckage. The current design features 8 autonomous probes, 4 of each of the 0.5 and 1m universal docking ports, as well a single 2m docking port on the janitor itself. Both the main vehicle and each of the 8 service probes mount sustainable power reserves and an internal supply of monopropellant for autonomous operation along with a processor capable of controlling any functional systems on docked wreckage. Salvage probes, while not primarily designed for it, can also be used to control intact vessels if the situation is deemed too hazardous for a pilot. The second generation prototype also mounts a hitch-hiker storage container after the shocking number of hulks found with barely living crew inside over the course of the MKI's testing. Unfortunately, the Janitor is currently only capable of linking to debris with at least one active docking port, but the MKIII is already in production and is hoped to be a major breakthrough. The Janitor is currently under lease by the spiritwolf corporation to aid in salvage and recovery around Laythe, saving KerbComm the costs of field testing. 12. Speaking of which, you might want to edit your earlier post with images from the successful mission unless you have any truly major changes before you are ready to release.
  13. Is anyone else working on Aid ships or is everyone making warships? The KerbComm KC-17 "Modular Inter-planetary Hauler" is a simple and sturdy vessel designed to carry whatever assorted payloads customers need to distant planetary bodies and is one of the most successful products in the KerbComm range. This particular KC-17, dubbed the Arsenal, is being used as a re-arming ship for the standard Spiritwolf ammunition, and has been loaded up to its maximum rated payload mass. While KerbComm is not known for military presence, the weapons on-board are not actually owned or produced by KerbComm, so they are looking the other way. The arsenal is loaded with 4 hades rounds, 8 standard fighter torpedoes, 32 standard fighter rockets and 12 prototype octo-rockets. This quantity of ammunition is enough to wage a decent length war of attrition, provided the enemy doesn't manage to destroy the Arsenal before it offloads all its payload. Additionally, when it has expended the onboard ammunition, the various docking ports allow it to continue serving as a utility vehicle, given the large remaining onboard fuel supply.
