  1. Rather than edit the persistence file to change orbital parameters, you probably want to use the Hyperedit mod. Safer and easier that way.
  2. People do make them. They are just uncommon.... probably from the modest payload compared to a staged craft. Some people have jet-assisted SSTO rockets too. Which I think are underappreciated.
  3. I think that guy was the minority back in the 90s. Back then people were talking it up, saying how it would change everything, and in ways we could not predict. The "Information Superhighway"... I think that was a Microsoft catchphrase. Odd that they missed the onramp. You know what? It happened just like that. E-commerce was the obvious thing, and advertising. What was unexpected was the rise of Social and Virtual Communities. That happened as regular non-nerdy people started communicating with each other online en-mass. That also meant so many Cat videos.
  4. Oh man this again. It's almost like the KSP equivalent of Imperial verse Metric. Personally I would prefer parts referred to by named sizes rather than the exact size as a decimal. Even if the name is an integer, as in size 1, 2, 3, 4.
  5. IMO that is actually the correct way to think of this style of staging. If you treat the outer stages as boosters that contribute lift to the core, the TWR will decline as stages are separated. Which is not what you want.
  6. If it ends the same way Contact did i'm going to barf.
  7. This. Even if you don't use mods, install it temporarily as a teaching tool. Understanding the Rocket Equation is one thing. Getting an intuitive feel for it is something best done playing around in the VAB and getting realtime feedback on the delta-V.
  8. Watched it... was very interesting. IMO time was due for a shakeup. When SSDs arrived I wondered how long it would take before the divide between Storage and Memory would be eliminated in computer architecture. Seems the change is on the way. I think getting the OS right will be key. I don't think they will get it right the first time.
  9. I use my non-dominant hand (left) --- always.
  10. Sounds more like an industrial accident waiting to happen rather than a propulsion solution.
  11. You will need a mod if you don't want to keep switching to Map View and back. MechJeb and probably other mods give you your Latitude and Longitude. I don't know if there is one that can give you a mini-map.
  12. Yep - It's one of those bucket list things that never came to pass for me. Watching a Shuttle launch there on site. Hopefully when NASA get the next human launch system running I will be able to watch one of those.
  13. Not sure if anyone has asked but... why can't you give Reputation to someone in The Space Lounge section of the forum? This must be intentional. However I can't think of a good reason. It would be nice to give rep for a good post in any forum section. Anyone else think the same? Can a mod provide a reason for this at least - happy to be persuaded with a good reason.
  14. I don't think this has been talked about in a while, which is a shame. So I thought I would start a post about it. This is about our old friend, the Magic Boulder. For those that don't know, it was an easter egg that vanished from the game several versions ago. It most likely was accidental. So, does anyone have any fond memories of Magic Boulder? Does anyone think it should be added back into the game? Does anyone think it will return?
  15. For me it's mostly waiting for the completed game so I can play Career Mode to the end.
  16. Tried it out. Was working swimmingly - until I tried to build something in the VAB.
  17. I use the regular docking port as standard, so everything can connect to each other. For Spaceplanes, I use a (shielded) docking port as the nose of the craft as standard. This also sets the surface fuel tanker docking port standard height as the length of the landing gear. As much as possible, I put a docking port on the top and bottom of craft, with engines attached radially in x2 or x4 symmetry. This way they can be chained together with engines offset to not thrust into tanks/engines below them.
  18. Hmm, looks like a Bufo Marinus. Those critters are pretty simple in feeding behaviour, and well everything really. Far more informative is the classic documentary: Cane Toads: An Unnatural History Looks like it's all on YouTube.
  19. Did a test flight to Minmus in a new SSTO Spaceplane, after re-fueling in LKO to get there. Here they are... With that a success, I thought heck, why not refuel in Minmus orbit, then take the lads to Laythe. Problem is, what I didn't know is that the MechJeb version I had at the time was a bit screwey with the dV calcs. It showed significantly more than what I had. Basically not enough that you would try to get to Jool. The realisation that something was very wrong was after the trans-Jool plane change. So I get my direct intercept for Laythe at the edge of Jool SOI, then aerocapture into a highly elliptical orbit. I basically had nothing but a pipet of oxy now, which I used up adjusting the orbit to intersect over the equator, hoping to be somewhere over land when I get there. Fortunately I did, and was even close enough to a fuel tanker/rover. I used the few remaining fuel reserves to fly the small distance. Landed with no oxy and almost no fuel.
  20. Whether it is Eugene or Cleverbot or whatever. Are the Chatbots getting smarter or people getting dumber? What exactly are we measuring here?
  21. Like others have pointed out... make sure you are actually doing a retrograde burn (ie. ). In order to turn that highly inclined orbit into an equatorial one. Probably start hunting for a Tylo intercept to swing you around to the right direction.
  22. Spaceplanes vary so much in ascent profile. Some will punch an AP well over 70Km so you only need rockets to circularise. At the other end of the spectrum, the ascent profile may look more like a jet assisted rocket profile (like they all did pre v18). So making a general purpose kOS program may be quite a challenge. Anyhows... I have done a full K-prize run with landing back on the runway fully under kOS control. But the program was written for a particular spaceplane. I will PM you some material. Including a very detailed document that describes the solutions in the program.
  23. Tails here. Poll result so far = 7:7
  24. In no particular order... KSP Total Annihilation Deus Ex Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Battlefield 1942
