  1. My point is that STS in regards to shuttle does not mean Shuttle Transportation System, it means Space Transportation System. STS was a program from the 1960s, the only surviving part being the Shuttle. If you're going to use the vocabulary, use it correctly. It irks me. (But when I was growing up, I had to learn the OV-XXX designations to be able to talk to my father about them, so I tend to be a bit pedantic about the terminology sometimes.)
  2. The SCA is a system that transports the shuttle, hence Shuttle Transportation System. The crawlers were systems that transport the shuttle, as well. The Shuttle was part of the Space Transportation System, so the Shuttle Transportation System must be something else.
  3. Wouldn't the Shuttle Transportation System be the 747 that transports the shuttle?
  4. I currently have an exact copy of NASA's manned spaceflight program. I really need to get back to playing...
  5. Having seen both, I must disagree.
  6. Go back to our homes?!? How can you be serious? There's a time traveler loose on these very forums, and you want us to ignore it? Please, oh time-traveled poster, tell us what the future holds. (And next time, download KSP before you go back in time.)
  7. Yes, it's a real photo. The devs have decided to stop working on a game, and they're building a real Kerbin instead.
  8. No, that's just another tree. There is no such tower at KSC. Because it's not exactly an active airport? The only things that land there usually have a Meatball on them. Any civilian traffic is handled by civilian ATC elsewhere.
  9. I skip the tower and stick sepratrons straight to the capsule. It works for an escape, and I can also use the on reentry to drop my velocity.
  10. There was a cartoon based on Pac-Man. It ran along with a cartoon based on Rubik’s Cube. I would think those are somewhat less plot fodder than KSP.
  11. I remember seeing it, but I never played it.
  12. All age categories are rather arbitrary. *shakes cane* Someday you younguns will understand that!
  13. You weren't around in the '80s, huh? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_television_programs_based_on_video_games
  14. "Well, of course. Would you get in that craft sober?!?
  15. A couple of co-workers were discussing it at the office one day, so I found the demo. After playing that for a few weeks, .16 was released, so I bought it. They hadn't been following the development, so I got to see some great reactions when they saw a Kerbal on EVA.
  16. Yeah. One of my favorites was the guy running a website, who told me to stop using "highly technical terms, like 'clicking' and 'dragging'".
  17. You might want to check on that again.
  18. I worked tech support for a while. I loved the work, hated the job. I work somewhere else now, and I find that I enjoy playing with computers again. Your guess may be correct in some cases, but it is wrong in many, as well. Some work there because it's the job that gives them a paycheck. Or it's something they once loved, but can barely stand now, but they can't find another job that pays well enough to make a change. Or hate the job, but are just trying to hang on another couple years to retirement. The idea of working somewhere is a lot shinier than actually working there. When I was in college, there were two kinds of students in the Computer Science department, with a very visible divide. Those who did it because they loved it, and those that did it because they heard it paid well. Yup. The ones that get moved up to manager. Growing up in this area of Houston, I've seen enough NASA folks move on to other stuff when they got bumped from "doing stuff" to herding people. I know Dad's a lot more laid back since he semi-retired.
  19. Even if you like what you're doing when you start, even a great job can become "just a job". There are a lot of people working at NASA that neither know nor care much about the space program; they just do what they get paid to do. (Note: The tourists on the trams pay money to be there. The employees have to be paid to show up.) Because when you're doing the same thing for your job and as your hobby, you can get a little burnt out. Of course, there are still people that work in the aerospace industry and enjoy Kerbal. I don't know if the percentage is any higher than in the general population, though.
  20. That depends on how exactly you want to define "land". I mean, they were still alive after all the pieces stopped moving/exploding.
  21. Manned missions can also use SSTV: Also, the portraits aren't necessarily video feed to the ground. They're just there to let us see our Kerbals' reactions.
  22. That leaves the possibility that someone would fill the people tank with liquid fuel. Does this convert the fuel tank to a Hitchhiker type storage can or a command pod? Would it be possible to make two types of refit modules, to convert to either storage can or pod?
  23. I'm glad to see this updated, but is there any way you can post this on a download site that does not try to download over 50MB to my computer?
