  1. A 96 ton lander/skyscraper that put 101 kerbals on the Mun. Party time!
  2. The parachutes partially deploy around 21,000 meters above the surface, and they fully deploy exactly 500 meters above the ground. So if the terrain you're above is at 3,000 meters, they will fully deploy at 3,500. Drogue chutes have slightly different parameters. I'm not sure how they're set up.
  3. I did it! This was something I had tried in the past, but never had much success. This time around though, everything worked brilliantly. My favorite screenshot from the mission. Here's the full album. I'm going to give this another shot later, I think I can improve the design a lot. Your rover can effectively aim the hook Yes! By walking with the Kerbal on the roof, I have full control over where the hook goes Your rover drives well off walls I guess so. It's not nimble but it isn't prone to tipping, and can travel at speed. Your rover can move from walls onto roofs Your rover can climb on top of overhangs (such as onto the top of the control tower) Yup, even though this demonstration was on a flat wall, the other grappling hook keeps it away from overhangs. Your rover is easy to transport I didn't have any difficulty moving it around.
  4. That's awesome. Also, we have time for long stories! The MT-GAT Mk3 claims another mountaintop! What should I name this place?
  5. I hereby claim Mount Herzor, the highest peak of the KSC mountain range.
  6. I took the BFE-5000, built a gigantic rocket, and landed it on the Mun as trophy! It's nonfunctional, but I'm trying to fix that.
  7. It seems like the BFE is totally dead. I .cfg edited it to basically be a 5000kn skipper engine, but it produces no thrust.
  8. Watch Here! I will be attempting to get a 15 ton Mecha onto another world! Live stream starts at 12:45 EDT and will probably be up for 1-4 hours. Edit: It's over, I'll probably take some time and splice together an album or two. It was a total success! In case anyone wants to watch what happened (not nearly as much fun as live), then here is my reddit comment with links and times.
  9. Don't mind me, just walking through... In a 15 ton KAS powered Mech! Edit: I redid its face a little and added plates to the legs: Since taking that screenshot I've reworked the toes a bit too. I might try combining the action groups of the legs, fully independent control of each joint is very clunky. All right, last edit: I combined the two action groups, so instead of fiddling with 8 buttons, it's just 4. Move leg forward, grapple, move other leg forward, grapple. It works really well (relatively), it started off right next to the lander can. The mech still requires hacked gravity to walk though; I might eventually find a way to make it sturdier, but a key part of the legs is that they have easily bent joints. Once I'm done developing, I'll shoot if off to Minmus, where gravity is much kinder.
  10. You need to take the use [imgur] tags like this (without the quotes) ["imgur"]hzmA4["/imgur"]
  11. KAS is now the best mod ever. Using the techniques learned from building it, I started work on a Mech. It's currently under development. Here's an early version After a bit more development, I sent it on its first test run. Thanks to grappling hooks on its feet, it managed two steps using hacked gravity before running out of power.
  12. After putting a crossbow on Dres, I wondered, "How will I top this?" Now I know. I built a fully functional robotic arm using KAS to act as tendons. It works wonderfully and has great range of motion. Using this kind of technique, I plan to build a bipedal robot.
  13. I think my finest moment so far is landing a crossbow on Dres. The initial rocket came in just a little bit under 700 tons. After flying it all the way there and braking into orbit, I realized I had forgotten a decoupler between the lander and the crossbow itself. I wan't simply going to give up though, so I had to lithobrake it off. I didn't save or record the final landing, but here is a screenshot from testing if such a thing could even work: The end results were pretty nice. Also my first landing on Dres. Also I made sure to land it by the canyon. I'm thinking about sending one to every planet, but only once .21 comes out. I'm also trying to cut down the weight, the crossbow itself is about 180 parts and 14 tons.
  14. Control fins have do absolutely nothing without an atmosphere. It sounds like you just have long noodley plane. Could you give screenshots?
  15. Jaw : () On the floor. : (__________) Abusing the physics at its finest.
  16. Alright, I'm heading down a new line with this project, I'm pretty sure I've gone full slingshot now. It's incredibly stable, and can take sharp turns at full speed. Ejecting the side hook to make extremely quick turns (in true Batmobile style) doesn't work, unfortunately. After arriving at some chosen destination, the bucket is set down. The "towers" split up and anchor themselves down with grappling hooks. A Kerbal attaches the bucket's hook to the ground. The test pilot is put in and the cords are veeeery carefully tensioned up. Fire! Not bad for an early prototype. It's time to pack up, the bucket is pulled up and reattached to the towers after a bit of fiddling around. Some of the connections look a little wonky, but it still drives perfectly fine!
  17. You need to host your picture on a file sharing site. I use imgur
  18. HAHAHAHAHAHA HAAA HAAAAA HAAA WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING.
  19. I put a Crossbow on Dres, then fired Bill Kerman across the canyon. I told myself I would cut out this ridiculous crossbow stuff, but I can't. It's too crazy. Too fun. I'm addicted.
  20. Whenever things fell out for me, it was because the craft (or just the bucket) was shaking. Try strutting things up and not overtensioning the cables. As for getting caught on the lip, I can't really do any trouble shooting without a picture.
  21. Update: Added to original post! I did it! I built myself a ~700 ton rocket and landed that bad boy on Dres.
  22. I told myself I would wait for .21, but I couldn't hold myself. I put my Crossbow on Dres. The highlight of the mission was definitely the landing. After hours of development and piloting, I finally got to Dres, but I realized I forgot to bring a decoupler. I was distraught for a few minutes I considered just giving up, but then I thought of a solution. Lithobraking! By landing at just the right speed, I was able to destroy the lander while keeping the crossbow intact.
