  2. Actually, aerospikes are rockets. Don't be fooled by their jet engine-y appearance, just treat them like normal rockets! (because they are) Their fuel consumption and thrust are actually quite good....for a rocket engine. Just know that you can't use them with stack decouplers and that they can't vector thrust. They're pretty great used as main engines, and as controllable "srb" style boosters. Also know that the true SRB's give you way more thrust, albeit for a short period of time.

  4. Yeah the Smart ASS operations are extremley useful. They take alot of time consuming maneuvering out of the equation! MJ as taught be a ton about orbital mechanics too. Honestly I don't see why mech jeb limited to smart ASS and orbit/surface/ vessel info hasn't allready been incorperated into the game. It makes it much more playable!!!! I can focus on figuring out how to fire things at other planets and not on my steering error.

Does this mean warp travel to extra-kerbol planets might not be so far fetched for KSP?!!! (or indeed real life)
  7. Wait, why no mech jeb? It DOES NOT fly your ship for you in .17. It'll get you to the Mun and Minimus, that's it. I presume you don't know much about mechjeb. Do me a favor and google it. Why can't I use Smart A.S.S. (which just points you toward pro/retro, etc.) or Orbital information????? Inclination change is really difficult to figure out if you start anywhere outside of 0.0 degrees!! (like when you're coming in for a planet capture)
  8. Nice work! Just out of curiousity, who designs your promotional and cinematic videos? I ask because I'm a film student, and cinematography is my main focus. Videogame cinematics are a field I'm kinda interested in. Once again, great work on the video and on the new update! You guys are the most responsive devs to your players that I've ever heard of! Keep up the good work!
  9. Yeah I think the forums need a better search engine. Better yet, we need a dedicated Mod download link section on top of the current "Addon Release and project showcase". It's pretty hard to find the exact mod you want, you always have to read the thread continuously for new cool mods. Wish there were just a plain list, with categories, of dl links for mods. Yes there's an official mod page, but it's never up to date and has just a handful of the stuff out there. There are generally will have plenty of landers though, check the rocket and parts packs on the addon releases, they generally will have them. For sure, check Nova Silisko's page. That dude is a BOSS.

  11. First off, let me say that I do not wish to cause any trouble. If this thread is deleted, I totally understand. So I've had threads locked a couple times on the forums for accidentally inciting controversy. (orbital construction, talk of aliens, etc.) Others have too, and it can be a little frustrating sometimes, both for members and moderators alike. So I propose THE FORBIDDEN THREAD. It'd be a thread, possibly this one, where everyone can post their controversial ideas (controversial in game, not real life). If someone starts talking aliens or giant space weapons, the post gets moved here. Argument about mechjeb? Moved here. The idea is to contain all so called "forbidden" topics in one area so that the moderators can concentrate on other things. This way moderators can be happy, and members can be happy. (those of us who can't shut up about what not to suggest) Other suggested names: The thread of shame, dreamland, twighlight zone, outer limits, the ass-end of the galaxy, mos eisley cantina. Obviously this thread would go to the Forum Forum, but since it's currently a suggestion, I guess it goes here? Thoughts?

  14. My understanding is that Nova Silisko was originally a modder. Is that correct? Perhaps if Squad gave the incintive of adding certain mods to future vanilla versions of the game, and possibly paying the modders for their work, that might stimulate a lot of very high quality works. You could very well expand your team pretty easily this way. As an indie game fan, I love the idea of a game created by a massive community of modders. I have friends that are actually looking for 3D modelling work/internships, and who would probably love to put this game on their resumes'. Just a thought
  15. Lol I named the first rocket I ever made, the Bebop. Sadly it was a sub-orbital turd.... Also, this challenge is a lot like one I posted a little while back about making sci-fi spaceships. Bebop/ Swordfish II were included in my examples lol. I think we need to wait for some kind of docking implimentation and better spaceplane support before a Bebop can happen. I'm assuming you want it to be capable of launching some kind of smaller swordfish style spaceplane n' such. For that you need only make a small cargo bay, although swordfish would need to orbit seperately, then dock to Bebop. That's just how the game currently works, I would love to be able to make something like this in the future. For now, check out the spacecraft exchange, the guys there are making some pretty sexy looking spaceplanes. You might ask one of them to make an approximation of what Bebop would look like. See you Space Cowboy...

Hey so I've got a pretty bad bug where when my craft crashes, the aws is intact, and somehow prevents me from ending the flight!!! then the part randomly appears next to me in flight, zooms away, then re-spawns!!!! I had to delete my savegame to get rid of it and fix my game!!! this is cool but a bit buggy. Now I've got to re-install the mod so i can take it off my ships (won't load them with missing parts). Sounds cool, but it's not worth the glitches. Would love to see something like this incorporated into the game!

  21. My goal in KSP thus far has been to create the ultimate space ship. To create something that's capable of everything space ships do in sci-fi! That means a single stage, verticle take off and landing vehicle. Something that's either a VTOL spaceplane or a rocket. It has to have enough fuel to perform orbital operations (possibly a planet vist, landing or fly by later on in developement) and be able to return to Kerbin on a powered landing. To give you an idea, I'm basically seeking the Millenium Falcon, USS Enterprise, Tardis, Jupiter 2, Bebop/ Swordfish etc. Not exact replicas or anything, just giving you all some inspiration Not a vehicle designed for one purpose, but several! So the challenge is to build the ultimate sci-fi space craft! There are no real rules, but stock parts and physics would be preffered. (unless you want to take the liberty of adding lasers or something). There are no rankings beyond bragging rights. Post pictures/ video of any craft you might make. Make sure your hud is enabled so we can see the mission timer and fuel levels. The closer you get to completing the challenge the better, but obviously it's totally cool to post your nearly successful attempts/ failures. Electronic brownie points for anyone able to complete this!!!! BONUS POINTS: Can your ship make a landing and take off again? (Kerbin or other bodies) Can you make a water take-off/ landing? Will add more bonus functions as I think about them NOTE: I don't want to hear "this is impossible", "The devs never intended this", "this is REALLY HARD" (I know it is). If you want to post comments like that, just don't. HAVE FUN!!!!

  23. So some of you may have pretty crowded sky's by now, what with dozens of spent stages up in orbit. I've heard a couple of stories on the forums about flights being crashed by space debris slamming into them at a few hundred m/s. So besides setting persistent debris to 0 or making a new save game, what are some ways you guys deal with space debris? EDIT: Ok ok, actual suggestion now. I know squad hates weapons....but... could we be allowed some "kinetic impacters" to shoot down all that floating debris? Maybe an automated laser system to disentegrate things that get too close to your ship? (the idea being that you can't control the lasers yourself, beyond an on/off button. Therefore they can't be used for offense) Plasma shielding? Ablative armor? I'm sure micro meteorites are going to happen at some point... Perhaps it won't be an issue for several more updates...
