  1. I have the raw 256X256 front hazcam image showing the rover's shadow, can't attach to the post though because of size. I'm not going to commentate, because anything I say would be inadequate to describe how awesome this is. Did anyone else grab any images before Nasa's servers went down?
  2. I'm watching this right now too, on NasaTV's stream (don't want the Ustream chat). They just severed communications, so I guess it's down to the vehicle now... They keep pushing how difficult the landing will be in the commentary.
  3. I have a Saitek Cyborg Evo, it works fine for arcade flight games but not too well for KSP. The problem is that it won\'t stay calibrated. The twist (yaw) axis slides all over the place, so I end up having my ship spinning like crazy when I let go of the stick. I haven\'t been abusing it or anything, so I think the stick itself just isn\'t built to last. This seems to be a common problem with Saitek stuff, I also have their keyboard and it\'s starting to come apart after two years of use. I can\'t recommend it for something like KSP where you need to have a stick that stays centered.
  4. In which I shamelessly rip off Tim_Barrett. KSP has many types of vehicles. Rockets, planes, interplanetary spacecraft, but there isn\'t really anything in the way of water transport. I attempted to rectify that. Meet the Leviathan, a Kerbal naval vessel. The original plan was to strap four hugeass rocket boosters to it and airlift it into the water, but that proved difficult, so the wheel pods were added. This allows the Leviathan to creep sloooowly into the water without too many essential bits falling off. It\'s important to find a shallow slope into the water, or stuff starts breaking. Once in the water, the pods are jettisoned, and the Leviathan takes to the seas! It has a blistering top speed of 12 m/s, which is probably a good thing because any faster and things would start to explode. There isn\'t actually that much to see after it enters the water, just hour long cruises to nearby islands. The turn radius is enormous, but it has enough fuel to run basically forever. I have a few variations in the works, including one that has a helipad built in, but that is proving... difficult. Of course, it wouldn\'t be KSP if I didn\'t also have ideas on how to make even bigger ones. I\'ve also got quite a lot of aircraft to show, which I\'ll create separate posts for later.

  6. You know, I probably ought to get one of these newfangled showcase thingies everyone seems to have nowadays. I was playing Thunder Force the other night, and remembered this scene: . How do you get your little atmospheric fighter into space? Strap it into a much bigger set of engines and just fly straight up! AKA, the Xzibit maneuver. The larger vehicle is called the Brigandine unit in the game. And that\'s when I got bored and decided that was what my plane in KSP needed. Unfortunately, KSP is still lacking gigantic laser weaponry, but I assume that\'s coming. This was the original prototype. It didn\'t work. The revised version. Now 30% shinier. And less prone to spontaneous combustion. Vroom vroom If I had kept boosting I would have entered orbit, but I decided to try and fly the plane to the other continent down there. Rest assured it handles space fine, I took it to the Mun once. Ditching the Brigandine for atmospheric reentry. This has a bit of a habit of snapping my elevators off. A more successful flight. I\'ve attached the .craft file below, it\'s actually a slightly revised version. It needs the C7 and KW Challenger packs.
  7. I\'m going to be boring and say volumetric display. Not monochrome and projected into a tank of water or a fog cloud. In the air. Full color. With haptic feedback. And preferably, cheap.
  8. When flying, size doesn\'t matter as long as you\'re going Mach 10 while your at it. Runner up would be the SU-47, due to instant awesome just add forward swept wings.
  9. I\'ll see your Almaz and raise you a fully functional Rods from God. Recoil is still a bit of an issue, but I\'m working on that.
  10. Hey everyone, I\'ve been lurking for the past month or so. Now I\'ve run into an issue now that I really can\'t figure out, so I might as well get some help. Advanced SAS: In the previous version the worked fine when driving RCS and control fins (forgot the official name), but now, whenever I turn on the SAS it will try to make a minor correction by turning the fins as far as they can go, or continuously firing the RCS. Almost immediately the rocket passes the heading the SAS was trying to reach, and the fins or RCS flip full on in the other direction. This results in violent rocket-breaking vibrations in the atmosphere and emptying the RCS tank in a minute while out of the atmosphere. What the? Why is this happening? A possibly unrelated issue, but also something I\'d like to ask about: space planes. They worked fine before, and in .11 they are incredibly unstable and extremely prone to flipping or stalling. Even outside of the atmosphere they slowly tumble. Was there a change in the aerodynamics code? Can this be easily fixed? Thanks!
  11. It turns out the palms don't have collision detection, but that doesn't matter, because I just found something incredibly weird. Lots and lots of wings attached to active SAS will, for some reason, give you lighter than air flight. This is a little glider, which floated way better than any actual plane I've tried to make. Which led to this and this It turns out they are propelled by their own explosions quite well The more densely packed the fins, the better Also a Kerbalnaut mood enhancer! This last one, which I've attached, has been floating for ten minutes! How to use: Activate SAS immediately. Get a good amount of speed up using the boosters, then mash the space bar until the entire fin and capsule system separates. Then go make a sandwich, it will still be flying.
  12. Hey KSP community! I've been playing the game for a few days and decided to get a forum account. After building a couple of rockets that can get into orbit, I decided to try and do something more difficult. This little lander thing resulted. Originally I tried to cushion the landing of the command capsule with a mini liquid engine from Wobbly Rockets, but after some experimentation I found that on Kearth, wings=shock absorbers. They'll actually take a 30 meter fall if they hit the ground just right. I landed this on the water tower repeatedly, on the VAB, and on the spherical tank connected to the launching pad. I have yet to attempt a palm tree, but that's my next goal.
