  1. Yes space planes are allowed, although they don't follow the pogo stick analogy
  2. Nice catch, the rules have been adjusted accordingly
  3. Why has nobody else thought of that Trebuchet! Great idea Also if anyone is interested I just posted a new challenge on the forum: The Space Pogostick Challenge
  4. This is the second challenge I have posted on the KSP forums, the first being 'The Rocket Javelin Challenge' which has been very popular so far In a way that was a competition more than a challenge as it is very easy to launch an unmanned rocket javelin, but very hard to perfect. Without further ado I present the Space Pogostick Challenge, which is far harder to complete, let alone perfect. WALL OF FAME - 3 Pogo-jumps or more! ... The Objective Create a spacecraft capable of taking off from Kerbin, entering low Kerbin orbit, and subsequently landing back on the surface. This is straight forward enough but this is only the beginning of the challenge. The landed spacecraft must then be able to take off yet again, reach orbit for a second time, and once again land! By doing this you have completed the challenge, but is it possible to perform more than 2 pogo-jumps? Those who complete the challenge can also attempt to achieve even more, by completing 3 or more pogo-jumps! Rules Only stock parts may be used. MechJeb is the only mod part allowed, as its effect on the difficulty of this challenge is limited (The challenge is mainly about the engineering and not the flying). No config edits are allowed Either only use full and no throttle, or install the fuel bug fix found on the plugin powered mods section of the add-on release and showcase forum A Pogo-jump must consist of a powered launch from Kerbin, an orbit with a periapsis higher than 70 Km around Kerbin, and a landing on Kerbin. Posting Guide When posting your Space Pogostick please include an image of your spacecraft in the following positions: Launchpad, 1st Orbit, 1st Landing, 2nd Orbit, 2nd Landing, etc. Feel free to post any other information about the spacecraft, although only the above images are required. If the guideline is followed I will add your name to this post, signifying your success. Those who can complete 3 or more pogo-jumps will receive a place on the Wall of Fame! There are also a number of special mini challenges to complete! Please show a screenshot of your ship completing any of the mini challenges you attempt Mini Challenges High Jump - The Apoapsis of one of your orbits is higher than 300 Km High Jump Plus - The Apoapsis of one of your orbits is higher than 1000 Km Heavy Lifter - Your spacecraft uses the 3 man capsule Homesick - One of your landings is within sight of KSC Homesick Plus - All of your landings are within sight of KSC Point of Interest- One or more of your landings is in one of the following locations: North Pole, South Pole, Secret KSC Wall of Success - 2 Pogo-jumps ... Example Attempt - COMING SOON ... Good luck to anyone and everyone that tries this challenge!
  5. Updating the leaderboard with the latest entries
  6. The leaderboard for gliders is getting long. I might need to use a spoiler tag on the ranks below 5th. Would give more of an incentive to try for the top 5 spots
  7. Good job EndlessWaves. You might get to the top spot with that thing
  8. @Trebuchet-Launch If you can get one to fly 1000Km I will give you an honorary mention in the Opening Post @EndlessWaves Thats a long time! Make sure to take the correct screenshot of the End Flight screen so that I can record your entry!
  9. Hey EndlessWaves, this challenge is very much about precise aerodynamics. A long distance for the glider category requires, as the name suggest, a very good glider
  10. Not sure about that but I shall put your name on the leaderboard
  11. Its awesome to see the amount of varied techniques being used here. When I first thought of the challenge I never thought it would be possible to achieve so much distance with a single SRB I'm just editing the leaderboards now
  12. Hmm, I might change the rules so that both gliders and space planes may be launched at an angle up to 45 degrees. The horizontal limitation was designed to prevent out of atmosphere flight, but there's a section for that now Edit: Changed rules to allow for angled launches up to 45 degrees. All other rules still apply.
  13. Supra did you take a screenshot of your End Flight log? I need it so that I can put down a distance on the leaderboard. Also Trebuchet can you use edits instead of multiple posts? Glad to see real kerbal aerodynamic engineering coming out of this challenge NetBlitzer xD
  14. Trebuchet, can you take a screenshot of one of your rockets end flight screens so I can add you to the leaderboard
  15. I think I underestimated the distances people would acheive... next thing someone will get an unmanned SRB into orbit Changed the OP regarding proof of distance, from now a screenshot of the end flight dialogue box is required in posts for them to be official entries
  16. Trebuchet-Launch, how did you get the rocket to head vertically so quickly after a horizontal launch. I've been launching some vertically and have struggled to get your distances O.O. Can you post the launch setup?
  17. Ah I can't tell you my secrets, what would be the fun in that Trial and error is your friend
  18. The Objective Build the most efficient rocket javelin possible! A rocket javelin is an unmanned solid rocket booster modified to fly further than any single rocket booster has gone before! In order to be counted as a javelin it must also be launched from an incline no greater than 45 to the horizontal. Be warned, this challenge requires greater precision and testing compared to some other challenges, and WILL result in countless launches of failed rockets. If you have ever tried to build a rocket booster plane you will know they are hard to control even when they are manned. Take manual control out of the equation and a real challenge emerges. As with the real javelin event, the javelin rocket with the highest GROUND distance at the end of the flight is the winner. Rules Any parts may be used as long as the single solid booster is the only propulsion system on the craft. The craft must be unmanned (you may not have any control over the craft). This is achieved by activating the booster before detaching it from a manned launch craft held in position by supports. Note: Hit the ] key after launch! No community parts or modified parts may be used. The craft must be launched from an angle between 0 and 45 degrees to the horizontal. Steeper launches are not allowed. The smaller rocket booster must be used Measuring Distance and Posting In order to make an entry take a screenshot of the End Flight screen, making sure that both the maximum altitude and ground distance are clearly visible. Please also include an image of the craft before launch to prove the launch angle was not above the 45 degree limit. All craft with a maximum altitude above 25 Km will be counted as Space-planes, whereas all below will be counted as Gliders. Glider Leaderboard - 25Km Maximum Altitude Values in brackets are a players older entries. All distances are recorded in Km 1. EndlessWaves - 261.1 (117.3) 2. NetBlitzer - 142.9 (57.8) (18.5) 3. Suprablaski4 - 133 4. Trebuchet-Launch - 83.1 (44.3) 5. G00MH - 45.5 (22.8) 6. Praitaq - 43.7 7. Ramipro - 33.6 8. BillWiskins - 26.0 (15.5) 9. Padarom - 25.0 10. SteevyT - 23.1 11. 1248766 - 14.7 12. SamNxGn - 13.4 13. Simplemunrockets - 10.8 14. Bluejayek - 9.1 Space-Plane Leaderboard Values in brackets are a players older entries. All distances are recorded in Km 1. Trebuchet-Launch - 271.1 (214.8) (170.0) (86.3) 2. Pebble_Garden - 182.5 3. NetBlitzer - 90.0 High Speed Award: Below is an example attempt made by me to get you thinking Final Distance: 13.4 Km Top Recorded Speed: 579.7 m/s Good Luck!
  19. Hey Heikkik, I actually use that fix already, and I was using full throttle for testing purposes anyway
  20. I believe I have found a fuel bug related to the payload pack. I built a craft consisting of the MMI pod, a 1-2 fuel tank, a 1-2 adapter, liquid engine 2, and a fairing covering the fuel tank and pod. This craft seems to burn fuel at a much slower rate than a duplicate craft which lacks the 1-2 adapter and fairing. I assume this must be a bug as the lighter craft burns fuel faster than the heavier craft which includes the fairing and adapter.
  21. Love your mods so much! They always fit in really well with the vanilla game, I don't feel like I'm cheating when using them. This is my storage craft on the Mun: The Kerbal is there for size comparison
