  1. Solar system tour with a 4 part ship. One mothership/transport module, one atmo lander, one non-atmo lander(no chutes), and a heavy Kethane scanning and mining probe. It took me quite a while, but the feeling of accomplishment when I returned to LKO and picked up the kerbals with my SSTO was just intense.
  2. Rendezvous and docking is an important skill to do the crazier missions in KSP. It's just a matter of reading a few tutorials and then practice, practice and more practice. Welcome
  3. Buy the game. Best purchase I've made in years! Welcome to the game
  4. Just wait until you start getting into the mods. KSP is great, and with some of the extra mods it becomes ridiculous! Welcome to the wonderful world of KSP, and to forums of course
  5. Having a few 45 degree geostationary satellites is actually a good way to increase coverage while still having a predictable distance to other satellites. If you install Kerbal Engineer Redux you can display your orbital period, which makes geo sats much easier to get accurate. Also, use a small tank of RCS to fine tune your orbital period, and thrust slightly offset from North/South or Up/Down to get those last fractions of a second correct. Good luck
  6. My Kerbin system satellites are pretty simple. Three geostationary satellites spread around Kerbin with two semi long range dishes each. Each of the satellites target both Mun and Minmus, and I have three satellites with the same dishes around each moon. There is no downtime on the link, and each moon is perfectly covered. I also have a few long range multi-dish satellites further out to facilitate interplanetary communication. I'm in the process of setting up a Kerbin-Duna-Jool triangle, so Kerbin-Duna will work even when the Sun is blocking the signal by bouncing it off the Jool dishes
  7. If you have problems getting your orbital period accurate, use RCS. But not exactly at pro or retrograde. Instead, thrust North with a small offset for either pro or retro. If you are going eastwards, I find that 5-10 degrees is the optimal heading for fine tuning your orbital period. You could just burn straight South to fix your inclination afterwards if that's important to you.
  8. I wish there was a mod with just the stage/combined delta V stats, apo/periapsis display and orbital period. Maybe there is a way to customize KER?
  9. Stranded a guy on Duna.. Poor guy. The flag he put down read "First landing on Duna: No matter what happens, I was here and it was worth it!" Then he tried lifting back up only to run out of fuel with an apoapsis of 10km..
  10. There is something awe inspiring about standing on Ike and watching Duna oscillate above.
  11. I play with RemoteTech so probes/rovers are a bit tricky. Then again I just stranded a guy on Duna, so I might have to try a rover next.
  12. Looking good man. Add a science lab to your mod, which actually generate science, and I'm sold!
  13. I made two videos on RemoteTech, one which explain the basics and one which show how to get your first satellites up and flying Enjoy
  14. I finished up a single launch trip to Duna with 4 RemoteTech relays and 1 Kethane scanning probe
  15. If you want to get a feel of how the game is with resources the mods Kethane and TAC Life Support both give you the chance to play with finite resources. There is also a mod called Extraplanetary Launchpads(?) that let you build ships out of mined raw materials.
  16. I use RemoteTech, so they usually end up as either communication satellites or I land them on the surface as hotspots for future rover missions.
  17. Got bit by the bug after watching kurtjmac. No regrets, but so many dead kerbals..
  18. Episode 10: More RemoteTech stuff, setting up a proper relay network around Kerbin and the Mun.
  19. Episode 9: Setting up a relay/access point on the Mun, and watching some footage of a failed interplanetary mission..
  20. I will do a video tutorial on it in a few days, as a follow up on my extended RemoteTech introducation video: http://youtu.be/cPmAMQv7yDM I also did a RemoteTech basic network video a few days before: http://youtu.be/9AJM5ulcQAM I just have to play with the flight computer a bit more to figure out the rest of the details
