  1. First: What do you mean by no propulsion but an altitude control system? Second: Well, this Site is about hiding spaceships - a rocket needs no life-support and could be launched almost at "space-temperature" (2.7 k) if well isolated from the Ship. My idea was (why I used the word hurl), that the Ship takes care of this part (coil gun or something like that) so that the rockets stay cool. If everything else fails - I just hide them in a buch of you terrain-building kinetic weapons

  4. Well, just think of the sheer material that would be used needed to produce such a "terrain" - that quite inefficient. If I could come up with a weapon to defeat other, capital spaceships, I would hurl a swarm of stealth-rockets in the general direction of the enemy from several hundred km away. During the cruise, they would be inactive. After a set time (or I could send an activation signal) the rockets would activate (as close to the enemy as possible), indentify their targets and attack them in the most efficient way. This way they would be safe from interception during cruise, I do not have to care about relativistic effects (depending on my hurling-technology I could throw them from VERY far away) and they are hard to dodge.
  5. Yeah, I don't think that KSP will become the next MC. Far to many numbers, angles and fancy words. Ever saw another game where the players talked about "oberth-effects", "hohmann-transferorbits", "bi-elliptical transfers" or "thrust-to-weight-ratio". All these thing appeal to the...well, the nerdier fraction of gamers.
  6. I'd say that the best weapon for space-warfare are self-guided missiles. Direct energy is unpractical and simple kinetic weapons to easy to dodge if you are fighting over hundreds of kilometers. Also just think of the recoil of a Battleship-class gun on a spaceship - the mounting for these guns would be massive, otherwise they would rip the ship to parts - and heavy stuff is be avoided. So, selfguided missiles - no recoil to handle and even at long range they are accurate. With sufficienty advanced computers on board they could even go after vulnerable parts of the enemy ships like sensors, engines or radiators...

  9. Yeah, most colissions up to now were minor, altough we had a full-fledged satellite collision in 2009. So, I'd say it's the chances of having a ablation cascade is becomming a real problem.
  10. What Anwas said - you can only say that something is stationary in relation to something else. There is no special frame of reference that could be used to say is something is actually moving or not. It's even worse - there is'n even a special time that could be used as the universal time and you subjective time depends on thigs like speed of movement, accelaration or proximity to a gravity well (planets and stuff). Well, some time ago I read an article about the physics in a very old universe and actually your idea is pretty realistic. But as far as I know, the current theories are even worse: In 100 trillion years star formation ceases - the is just no enough hydrogen and helium to form any new stars, so some time after that the last star burns out. Most Sunsytems will fall into the black hole in the center of their galaxies or will be flung out, so at this point there are no beatiful structures like our milky way left in the universe. In something like 10^34 (a one with 34 zeros behind it) years the nucleons (protons, neutrons) will start to decay, so that soon black holes are the only thing left in the universe. But even they "evaporate" and leave nothing but radiation, so in aproximatly 10^100 (you get it: a one with 100 zeros) years there will be only radiation left On the other hand, maybe our current theories are wrong and we will have a big crunch

  13. Yeah, don't have pics either, but I did it once on a lander I forgot to stick RCS on (it had monopropelant Tanks ), But even worse - the Docking port was in the same direction as the engines. So you would have to get to a good position, fly toward the target port, cut power, turn around and hope

  15. Usually I come up with stupid portmanteaus like the "Eeloplorer", the "Mohoplorer" or cheap puns like "Münman" (Minuteman - get it? )for my first rocket, that could reach ze Mün. My industrial kethane-refinery in Minmus orbit is called the "Kethlab"
  16. Me? No, I'm allmost as far as you can get from the Armstrong Monument. I have a münar base (you can see it's Icon on the first picture) on the other side of the Mün from where you can basically walk to the monument (5km or so - tedious walk). Saw it first while I was landing part one of the base (What is that white pixel?!).

  18. Let's see: No, I'm not religious - I'm an Atheist. I personaly belief that the world would be a better place without religion - but as long as you leave me alone with your religion, I'm fine. You can do whatever you want with your life/body/diet/whatever..... And if you ask me why I don't believe - I'll go with Laplace: I have no need of that hypothesis.

Yeah, it's quite counterintuitive - if booth ships are on the same orbit, but your target is ahead of you, you burn retrograde (away from your target), with lowers your orbit and then wait, as this lower orbit will bring you closer to the other ship. Mabe you can find a few videos on youtube, is actually not so hard once get the hang of it.
  20. As Rune said: Better for what? But I completely agree with him - the fact that Vostok-derived parts are still in use today is quite impressive and speaks for its design.
