  1. I don't think this thread has necessarily been ignored. I think it's too big to be ignored, and I think we have heard indications that the fairings are going to gain additional customizability.
  2. Backseat moderating is also against the rules
  3. I understand that. The end result is aesthetic, but the technique itself is not, because it's a matter of editing the file.
  4. I think the crux of the issue is that this isn't really an aesthetic technique.
  5. Let's agree to disagree. This method might fall outside the spirit of this thread, but I'm not going to say it has no place in this game. Maybe take this debate elsewhere to keep this thread uncluttered.
  6. The craft file is edited to include the solid fuel, not the .cfg, so anyone will have the extra fuel.
  7. I can't think of any instance where this "feature" makes sense. They should just remove the code that checks if engines are stowed.
  8. This is an interesting debate on the nature of what is "stock." I can definitely see both sides of the argument. If something can be loaded by any user with the stock game, then there is certainly some merit to the idea that such a craft is stock. For example, craft built with EditorExtensions can have things that the stock editor does not allow, like symmetry greater than 8x and surface attachment for parts that do not allow it by default. I personally consider such things to be stock. I don't think it can be compared to clipping though, since that is allowed by the default editor. So my question about doing this, because I'm not entirely clear: are you adding solid fuel to the SRB in the craft file?
  9. Ok that's bizarre. That might deserve it's own bug report thread.
  10. Fairing separation isn't really supposed to occur in thick atmosphere. The whole point is that they separate after the thick atmosphere's effects are no longer a factor.
  11. By "anchored," do you mean the high clearance decouplers that I used in this craft?
  12. How does that explain the interaction with the nose cones? Did you watch the video?
  13. Version: 1.0.2.842 Attaching boosters by their nose cones will break normal fuel flow rules. Fuel will flow outward through the decouplers. Originally posted about in this thread: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/118597-Decouplers-nose-cones-now-do-crossfeed See video below for a demonstration of this effect: Re-creation steps: Create a core stage and attach radial decouplers. Radially attach nose cones to the decouplers. Then, add fuel tanks and engines below the nose cones. The outer stages will draw fuel from the core, across the decouplers (which are not crossfeed compatible). If you attach the fuel tanks to the radial decouplers, fuel will not flow across them (the correct behavior).
  14. I have heard anecdotal evidence that the fairings could be causing the lag. What happens when you load one of your 1,000 part ships from .90?
  15. Version: 1.0.2.842 Parts covered by fairings cannot be properly duplicated using symmetry. I have created a video demonstration of this effect. As you an see, the fairing will only be on the original part, not the duplicates created by symmetry. I show the workaround in the video (which is also found in this post: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/43086-Open-Source-Construction-Techniques-for-Craft-Aesthetics?p=1880822&viewfull=1#post1880822), which is that you have to create a subassembly of the fairing-covered part, and place each additional part one-by-one. Re-creation steps: Create a core stage out of fuel tanks. Radially attach fuel tanks to the core. Add a fairing of any size and shape to the radially attached part. Take the radially attached part and activate symmetry, then place the part back on the core.
  16. Yeah, this is a serious problem. This game has no reason NOT to be colorblind-friendly.
  17. While using the new fairings as interstages, I've discovered that engines cannot seem to fire from within the interstage on staging. They give an error that says "[Engine] cannot activate while stowed." Here's a screenshot: In this picture, there is a Skipper located within that conical fairing section. Re-creation steps: Build an upper stage, place a decoupler under the engine, then place a fairing base under the decoupler. Close the fairing on the upper stage, creating an interstage fairing. Try to decouple the upper stage and fire the engine. The engine will not activate, and it displays the error above. This is obviously a problem, because it makes interstage fairings useless. An example of such an interstage is the one between the S-II and S-IVB stages on the Saturn V. Here's a link to my bug report thread on this issue:http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/117109-Engine-cannot-activate-while-stowed
  18. This thread is full of awesome stuff lately. It's really exciting to see!
  19. And people say that you can't make good looking spaceplanes in 1.02! This looks great!
  20. Could you post some screenshots of your craft?
