1. CYRI uses the specs it has been given as a comparison, and those may be out of date. As Starwhip said, the game has been optimized quite a bit in recent versions. If you can run the game 'fluidly' (I assume you mean at a reasonable framerate) on the demo version then I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to achieve similar (if not better) performance on the latest version.
2. It's nothing special, and should probably go in the SSTO showcase, but here's the first SSTO spaceplane I've built for any practical purpose. The idea is that I can now distribute probes to all unvisited planets in my career save with a re-usable vehicle. I'm still working on a way to put a new probe in between flights without returning to the VAB though; that may end up requiring KAS. Name: G-A Probe SP Mk III Reason: Go-Anywhere 'Probe Spaceplane' Version 3. I'm terrible at naming things. The probe has ~13k dV Anyway, pictures: ----- And a video: That only exists because I happened to have ShadowPlay running at the time (hence the occasional loss of the HUD to take screenshots). Something weird happened during processing and some of the audio is missing; I'll upload a better version tomorrow afternoon. ----- And the save file: http://goo.gl/wAlS5H Notes: - The Engineer part is not in that save file; I removed it before saving as it was there for the test flight - The probe seen in the video is not the one included in the save file. I realised that running an ion engine on a RTG wasn't going to work and added solar panels; the RTG is clipped inside the xenon tanks (without using part clipping debug). Of course, the probe is entirely optional and the payload can be replaced with something of almost-equal size and mass.
3. Two probes around Gilly ready to depart for Eve: I had to take them to Gilly because the transfer craft becomes unstable once one of the three probes it carries is removed. The 3rd landed on Gilly.
4. Embed Imgur albums with only the album code, in your case: QGo5O Remove the spaces. Anyway, you appear to have landed at 206m/s. That's not going to end well for any plane.
5. Is the administration facility overpowered? No. Is Outsourced R&D ridiculously overpowered? That's an understatement. The others are far more reasonable, as far as I can tell; I've been using rep -> science on Hard.
6. Once again I've reached the point where I have completed the tech tree and have more money than I could ever spend (and ways to make more), so I'll be sticking with career mode until either the save is eaten by the Kraken or I want to start over; it's basically sandbox right now. That's my main save though; I complete any challenges I take part in and test random things in a sandbox save, because most of them seem to end in explosions and some are fairly expensive
7. It was released with a clear warning that it was experimental and probably going to break something. It was then made clear, through player experience, that x64 is ridiculously unstable for most people (read: testing). There are number of lucky people who can run it without a problem though, not that it matters when mods don't have x64 support of course.
8. Fair point. I barely spend any time building planes and nothing I've built has ever had a drogue chute
9. The video served its purpose; it didn't need music to make it entertaining (because it wasn't necessarily supposed to be, although explosions be explosions) or narration to explain what was going on (because it was obvious what happened).
10. Why don't you just install Real Chutes when you use DRE then? The stock chutes are fine for the stock atmosphere without DRE.
11. For some reason people have developed an annoying habit of using the title "Minecraft in <thing>" ever since Minecraft became popular, even for games which were released long before it (not the case here, but worth mentioning). However, in that article it would seem that the comparison is being made because of the relatively quick growth of the community and the success of the game. That's fair enough. Basically the title is misleading
12. The launchpad (and to a certain extent, the runway, although I've not personally encountered any problems with it and I've hit it at high speed more than once) needs to be stronger; currently it's vulnerable to the weirdness caused by physics loading. Launch clamps fix that 99% of the time though. The other buildings are fine. You shouldn't be landing rockets on them anyway ...except the VAB, but that particular building is strong enough right now.
13. You can make it to all planets and land on Eve, Duna or Laythe with 13.9k dV. Can probably land on Gilly, Bop and Pol as well. ----- My entry - Craft File: http://www.filedropper.com/roverwskycraneag Alternative to the stock "Rover + Skycrane" and seems to suffer from at least one of the same problems. Flaws: - The skycrane is far too powerful and has very little fuel - No batteries. It can run at full speed on only the solar panels during the day though, provided you let it slow down for about a second every 30 seconds or so to recharge - The wheels aren't correctly aligned and it's slightly tilted. That's more an annoyance than an actual flaw The rover itself is actually surprisingly good. I'll have to fix the tilt and add batteries and start using it
14. The pain, the suffering, the "OMG WHY DO YOU ASCEND SO SLOWLY", and 30 minutes of real time spent holding down 'S' lead to this: Congratulations, you built a SSTO spaceplane. *Hides in a corner and sobs uncontrollably* I'm assuming I replicated your design accurately; hard to tell on the fuel tanks, but given that getting past a few kilometers at a decent rate of ascent was extremely slow I think I might've Let's just say it won't be docking with anything with the amount of fuel it has left. Anyway, I'll post something of my own tomorrow.
15. You could just wait 2 days or so until the mods are updated, and either spend that time playing something else or explore the new features within the update. The community never agree on anything. Ever. Squad made a game that allows people to mod it relatively easily, and that allows players to pick and choose between a number of different features which may (or may not) one day be added to the game but for the time being are freely available with a little patience after update.
16. What exactly do you mean by "set in orbit"? If you want to demonstrate the relatively simple orbital mechanics behind a satellite launch into an orbit at a particular altitude then that should be fairly easy and KSP is perfect for that. If you want to realistically demonstrate a satellite launch and all the potentially complicated stuff involved then KSP can still do that, but that may be difficult if you've never actually played the game before.
17. Windows because free Windows 8 for being a student. Would've been Windows anyway; I know Windows better than any other OS and have no problem with 8/8.1.
18. Yes, it's about 10 years. If you launched a rocket to save a Kerbal every time they passed, you would have to fail ~150,000 times before running out of time 120km orbit = 34 mins per orbit
19. If it's a VTOL with 4 vertical engines, one horizontal engine and wings, neither of the indicators should be facing straight towards the nose; thrust would be diagonally upwards and forwards, and lift should be upwards. I have no idea what's going on, but can this be replicated on other vehicles, or is it just something that is affecting your current construction?
20. Why don't you post a screenshot before the next failure - that way there may not be a next failure.
21. Copy the KSP folder out of Steamapps/Common Congratulations, you now have multiple copies. The one remaining in Common will be updated by Steam, the other left alone.
