Working 50 hours a week is great for a nice fat pay check, but damn I want to sleep all weekend and not do anything....which irritates my wife to no end.

So how far can you orbit a probe and stay within Kerbol's sphere of influence? I know the game says infinity, but you can escape Kerbol's influence.

So after I did a Jool encounter with a Deep Space Probe (and collecting about 8,000 science points) with a 3,000 km perigee, the probe went shooting off into the great unknown.

The orbit has a apogee of 101,311,923,070,487,000 metres from Kerbol.
That's 101.3 Quadrillion metres. If I blip the RCS even once, the orbit disappears.

 

Penguin is good eating, especially if you're starving in the Antarctic.
